Saint Agatha, Virgin and Martyr Memorial ~ February 5
From Catania, Sicily, Saint Agatha defended her purity throughout being tortured. "If you threaten me with wild
beasts, know that at the Name of Christ they grow tame; if you use fire, from heaven angels will drop healing dew on me.” During her imprisonment and torture, she received a miraculous visit from the apostle Peter who healed all her wounds. After being beaten again, Agatha prayed, “O Lord Jesus Christ, good Master, I give You thanks that You granted me victory over the executioners' tortures. Grant now that I may happily dwell in Your never-ending glory." A year after her death, she was credited with saving the city of Catania from a volcanic eruption of Mount Etna when townspeople held her veil against the oncoming flames. Her grave is venerated in Catania and her name appears in the Roman Cannon.

St. Paul Miki & Companions, Martyrs
Memorial ~ February 6
The son of a Japanese military leader, born in Tounucumada, Japan - Paul Miki, a Japanese Jesuit, was crucified with his twenty-five companions in Nagasaki, Japan. The faces of the group of martyrs
shone with gladness during their final struggle. “Like my Master,” murmured Paul, “I shall die upon the cross. Like him, a lance will pierce my heart so that my blood and my love can flow out upon the land and sanctify it to his name.” They were all canonized as the Martyrs of Japan in 1862. They were the first martyrs of East Asia to be canonized.

World Marriage Day (WMD) honors husband and wife as the foundation of the family, the basic unit of society. It salutes the beauty of their faithfulness, sacrifice and joy in daily married life. HISTORY - The idea of celebrating marriage
began in Baton Rouge, La., in 1981, when couples en-couraged the Mayor, the Governor and the Bishop to proclaim St. Valentines Day as "We Believe in Marriage Day". By 1982, 43 Governors officially proclaimed the day and celebrations spread to U.S. military bases in several for-eign countries. In 1983, the name was changed to "World Marriage Day", designated to be celebrated each year on the sec-ond Sunday in February. In 1993, his Holiness, Pope John Paul II, imparted his Apostolic Blessings on World Marriage Day. THEME - Our Theme for WMD has been permanently adopted as "Love One Another". This phrase is the com-mandment given us by Jesus in John 15:12. It speaks to us in a simple but challenging way of how our Father wishes us to live. All Sins can be forgiven... The Catholic Church teaches explicitly that there is no sin, no matter how serious, that cannot be forgiven. (Catechism
of the Catholic Church) To imply otherwise is a challenge to God’s omnipotence. God’s mercy is more powerful than any human ability to do evil. However, humans also have free will. God does not force us to reconcile but gives us the freedom to accept or reject divine mercy. For sin to be forgiven, we must admit our faults. (US Catholic) 1864 "Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven." 136 There are no limits to the mercy of God, but anyone who deliberately refuses to accept his mercy by repent-ing, rejects the forgiveness of his sins and the salvation offered by the Holy Spirit. 137 Such hardness of heart can lead to final impenitence and eternal loss. (CCC) 982-983 No sin is so serious that the Church cannot forgive it. "There is no one so wicked who cannot hope for forgiveness if his repentance is honest" (Roman Catechism). Christ always wants the Church's gates of forgiveness to be open for those turning from sin. (CCC)

Renewal of Marriage Vows Saturday, February 9, 2018
5:00 pm Mass
Renewal of Marriage Vows will take place next Saturday,
February 9th, at the 5pm Liturgy. Couples celebrating
an anniversary in a 5-year increment (5th, 10th, 15th,
50th, 55th, etc.) and those celebrating 60, 61, 62, 63, etc.
are invited to attend that liturgy and renew their marriage
vows.
Following Mass there will be a candlelight
dinner in the parish hall for those couples.

Boy Scouts of America designates the Sunday that falls before February 8 (Scouting Anniversary Day) as Scout Sunday, which is the primary date to recognize the contribu-tions of young people and adults to Scouting.
Girl Scouts are participants as well. Scout volunteers who wish to serve at the Mass,
please see your leaders for instructions on how to sign-up.
Safe Environment Training Wednesday, February 6 ~ 6:30 pm (in the SLC)
REQUIRED for anyone volunteering with our parish
and/or school youth. If your certificate is MORE than 5 years
old, you MUST renew. The Safe Environment Program of the
Diocese of Raleigh strives to empower parishes, schools,
families, and individuals to create and foster safe and healthy
environments for children & youth in all aspects of their lives.

NC Opportunity Scholarship
2019- 2020 school year
The NC Opportunity Scholarship Program expands
school choice in North Carolina through scholarship grants
for eligible children in Kindergarten through 12th grade.
This program provides funding of up to $4,200 per year
for eligible children who choose to attend a participat-
ing nonpublic school, including St. Peter & JPII.
The 2019-20 new student application for the Opportunity
Scholarship Program is now open. Priority will be given to
applications received by March 1, 2019.
