We have begun work on the three “R’s” for St. Pancras: Repair, Renovation and Renewal. (More on that in the future...stay tuned!) Step one is repair and replacement of the sound system. Although it may have sounded good to you, the system was old and being held together with a prayer (which isn’t a bad thing!) After some comparison shopping, we decided on a new system which is up to date and will benefit us in the parish for many years to come. We are also in the process of making comparisons, inquiries and studies of the important and necessary work that must be done on our church: fixing roofs and gutters, bricks and leaks. This is a big project but is underway as we start to examine the problems and get ideas and quotes. We begin the Annual Catholic Appeal once again. The Annual Appeal is an important way to participate in the ongoing ministry of the Diocese of Brooklyn. By our participation in the Appeal we assist the poor and needy, the education services of the Diocese and so many other ministries including chaplaincy programs in hospitals and prisons, vocational ministry and more. Please consider making a pledge which is spread over the whole year in installments. And remember that what comes in over and above the parish goal comes back to us in the parish and will be used to help with on-going re-pair and renovation of our beautiful church. God bless you all for your generosity!
Music Ministry This Second Sunday of Lent — the Transfiguration — I find myself reflecting purely on the richness of the scriptural teachings. “A voice from the cloud said, ‘This is my Son, the beloved: listen to Him.’” From the Gospel alone, we as Catholics are set to understand that Jesus’ vignette of suffering becomes the living embodiment of the Scriptures — and that our vocation as Catholics is to fulfill His message and to follow in His steps. Surely, the first and second readings set the groundwork for a similar message, being that, initially, we hear in the first reading of Abraham’s Christ-like obedience to God, even amidst an uncertain request. In the second reading, we understand the reward of having God on our side and knowing He will not refuse us as His people, once again reminding us of the rewards of a Christ-like vocation. A vision of the suffering Christ, carrying the wood for his own sacrifice is an inspiration to us all to carry Jesus’ message wholly and humbly. As we journey through these days of Lent, may we take this Transfiguration Sunday to realize the goal of our Lenten journey together — the power of God to put an end to our great suffering and to transform our lives entirely. Annual Catholic Appeal.
We encourage all to watch the brief 2021 ACA Video online at: CFBQ.org/ACAVideo
The work and services made possible through your donation to the Annual Catholic Appeal help people in Brooklyn and Queens in ways that no one parish can alone.
Let us pray that the 2021 Annual Catholic Appeal will be successful in both allowing us to reach out in love to those in need, as well as uniting us together in Christ as one Church. I hope you will join me and St. Pan-cras in “proclaiming the gospel of God” by participating in the 2021 Annual Catholic Appeal.
Our Parish Goal is $42,175. Please help us reach our goal.
