Dear Parishioners, The month of May will be a very special month here at Saint Monica. As well as children receiving
their First Holy Communion, 44 youth from our parish will also receive the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Barber.
Below is a list of names of the confirmands. This weekend they participated in their Confirmation retreat led by Deacon Mario.

Our speaker, Ralph Samuel, is a Holocaust Survivor who was part of the Kindertransport humanitarian
effort during World War II. This was a rescue of Jewish children from 1938 - 1940 from
Nazi Germany to Great Britain. His life as a 7 1/2 year old child being taken in by
the Epsteins is truly remarkable.

Eucharistic Adoration Please Note: May 4th – First Friday – Adoration ends at 5 p.m. followed by Benediction!
A conversation started about Adoration when friends told me they were converts, and didn’t know what to expect or do if they attended Adoration. In case there are others who are interested, the Consecrated Host
is put in a beautiful vessel called a Monstrance, and placed on the altar. Just as when we are at Mass, we are in the Presence of our King! People attending Adoration will have a silent private audience with the
Lord who is the Creator of heaven and earth, the Lamb who was slain, our Messiah, the Good Shepherd along with many other titles. One can quietly worship, petition, confess, and/or thank Him, or just sit and do whatever you feel led to do and say to Him. There are books in baskets by the sign-in book with prayers that will help you discover what is in
your heart and want to say to Him. If there is a question in your mind and heart about His actual Presence in the Consecrated Host, do as the distraught father in Mark did by praying “…. I believe, help my unbelief.” (9:24)
There is a reverence and etiquette: Remembering you are in the Presence of a King, placing your name in the sign-in book with the time you came and what time you leave, but most importantly, never leaving Him alone.
During one Lent, I was able to get to an Adoration Chapel almost every day for about an hour. During the times I wasn’t in Adoration, there was such an awareness of His Presence in my life; a peacefulness filled my heart and my whole being with a sense of everything working out, no matter what the conditions of the moment. I invite you to come and linger.
MAY DINNER in honor of MARY
May is the month dedicated to Mary. To celebrate, St. Bonaventure’s Women’s Christian Fellowship (WCF) will again be hosting its annual May Dinner,
an Evening in Honor of Our Blessed Mother.
Our guest speaker, Fr. Sergius Propst, OP, from St. Albert’s Priory in Oakland, will present a talk
entitled “Blessed Are You Among Women”, focusing on The Visitation of Mary, what it means and
its implications for us. Please come and enjoy a wonderful Chicken Marsala and Pasta Dinner.

Put Spring into your marriage! The WME Weekend is a chance to look
deeply into your relationship with each other and with God. It offers married
couples an opportunity to learn a technique of loving communication that you can use
for the rest of your lives. In the 2nd reading, John encourages us to love one
another in deed and truth not in speech only. Do you show your spouse that you truly love them, not just say it? Love your spouse in deed by giving the gift of
yourself; make the time to attend the next WME weekend on May 18-20th or September 7-9th.
Space is VERY limited! Early registration is highly recommended.

What does it really mean to be a “Catholic at work”? This will be addressed by Fr. Patrick Foley at the
Catholics@Work Breakfast TUES, May 8th, 7am - 8:15 am (Mass at 6:30am) at the Crow Canyon Country Club in Danville.
Since 1995, Fr. Foley’s ministry has been directing retreats, preaching parish missions & leading days of
prayer and similar events across the country. He describes himself, with Irish humor, as “an
itinerant papist preacher” – one immersed in the critical ministry of helping people discover how God is present & at work in every person’s life. His concern
for us is to help us see how we can work with God precisely in our everyday occupations – how we can faithfully live the Gospel in our business & personal lives . All are welcome to attend. Please sign up at
