Sunday Reading Reflection
We are now in the season of The Epiphany. It is a wonderful season of mystery where we come to see how God reveals his best prizes slowly. We know that there will be one more electric world wide revelation to come. That is when Jesus Christ comes again - second time -
in glory. We also know that Jesus comes in little ways in our own lives everyday. What are the signs that we may know Jesus is coming again in glory or that Jesus is coming to visit us in our everyday lives? One of the main ways God works in revealing himself has to do with gradualness and subtlety. What can we do so that we can see the signs which are subtle and gradual? There are three things that we do - and that I haven't done enough - that work well. Fasting and praying and going to confession. When we go to confession and fast and pray we have a simple life which is not distracted and, being free, we can see the subtle little signs that God gives us of his coming.
The Baptism Celebration will be held in the New Hall, on Sunday, January 21st after the10:30 a.m. Mass. The baptism celebration is for families who have had children baptized between June 2017 and November 2017. The reception is not just for the prayer partners and families of the newly baptized, but for the entire parish. Refreshments will be served. Mark your calendars. Prayer Families Needed If you have 5 minutes or 10 minutes a day to say a prayer for a newly baptized child and their family, we need you! This helps our new families to feel apart of our larger St. John’s family. We have two celebrations a year to welcome all newly baptized families to our family. So all you need to do is make
a commitment for 6 months at a time. Please help by taking a picture - leave the babies name then your name and address on the slip provided. This will help families and Our family at St. John’s. ~Marion Parker

Our Parish Mission Trip will be going to Oil City, Pennsylvania, July 22-28, 2018. The trip is open to all students entering grades 9-12 in the fall of 2018, so that includes current 8th graders. We will once again be going through Catholic Heart WorkCamp, whose mission is “to foster the Catholic Faith of each participant through the sacraments, prayer and involvement in social service.” This promises to be an inspirational and fun week where you’ll live your Faith by helping local residents with anything from painting or gardening to home repair or even child care, while being strengthened in your Faith through daily Mass, amazing music and a lively and motivational evening program. It will also be a wonderful opportunity to make friends from around the country and within our own collaborative. ~ Tom Fitzpatrick

MASS
Learning about our faith must be accompanied with the practice of the faith! That means regular Mass attendance. Please be sure you are participating in weekly MASS! See you there!
This past weekend's offertory collection was: $5,786.00
Our Christmas collection for the Clergy was: $6,199.00 Our 2nd collection this weekend is for our mortgage. Now that the New Year is upon us, we can start thinking about taxes (ugh). This year anyone who has made a total of $250 or more in contributions (whether it be a one-time donation or cumulative throughout the year) will automatically receive a letter from St. John’s showing your donations for the 2017 year. If you do not receive this letter by the end of January, please send me an email or give me a call. If you are not sure how much you gave, no worries, just shoot me an email, and I will add you to the list of people I send these letters to. You can email me at: [email protected]. I can then email, mail or you can pick up the letter from the rectory. You just need to ask. However, you do need to be making your weekly donations via the offertory envelopes, Online Giving or through Online Banking / BillPay system for us to send you out this statement. Loose cash and loose checks are not put into our system. Now might be a great time to set up online giving in preparation for your 2018 taxes. Just go to our website: TownsendCatholic.org and scroll to the bottom of the site until you see the icon for Online Giving. Click on that and you are on your way to helping support St. John’s parish. As always, thank you for your continued support and generosity to St. John's.
