FELLOWSHIP

The calendar system for signing up for fellowship treats continues to besuccessful.The Third Annual Church Picnic held last month at Tim and Mizzie’s was aresounding success. We thank them for hosting a wonderful church familyand friends gathering with over 50 attendees.

COMMUNICATION

The addressing of communication weaknesses in our emergency plancontinue. A call for someone to help in checking phone numbers and emailaddresses is number one. Father Dan will be updating the church directoryas needed. Continued call for photos of pets for id purposes as well asphotos of members is being made periodically.

Perhaps a list of names and contact information of vicars and churches inthe area should be kept and made available for use during emergencies.

CHURCH SAFETY

The call for people to serve in the safety group that will follow securitymeasures netted five persons so far. We will meet later this month todiscuss the measures to be taken and define and assign roles.

l have approached two local contractors re the project, giventhem the plans and they have declined. Robyn has someonewho might be interested.

Sign-Elanie has been out of town and her son is the sign painterand l don’t have his contact information. She may be back thisweek and l will contact her.

New lock was installed on the Parish Hall outside door. ...the oldone stopped working.

July1:Initiatedacampaignofa50/50FundraiserContesttoguesstheageoftheoaktreebeforeitwascutdownbySouthernCAEdison(SCE).SincetheexpensewastobecoveredbySCE,guesseswerecollectedat$5perguessuntilthetreewascutdown.ByJuly15,Icollected$420tobesplitwiththepersonwhoguessedtheclosestage.SCEcutthetreeonJuly16andImetwithanarboristtodeterminetheageof436yrs.Thewinner,DianaKurrguessed427yrs.old.Shewasawardedacheckfor$210attheannualChurchpicniconAug19.

Sept2:HeldacommunitywideLabyrinthWalkonSundayafternoon.TheMeditativeWalkwasintroducedbyFr.Danandafterabriefintroduction,the21peopleinattendance,walkedtheLabyrinthinsilence.IarrangedforPaulaKingtoplayherharpwhiletheWalktookplace.Promotionsoftheeventweresharedinseveralsocialmediasitesaswellasthroughpersonalemailblastsandannouncementsatchurch.Manyphotosweretakenandthewebpagehasbeenupdatedwiththem.Thefeedbackwasverypositivewithrequeststodoitagain.

MusicMinistryReport|18September2018Wearestillintheseasoncalled"TheSundaysafterPentecost."Itjustkeepsgoing.ThefinalSundayistheSolemnityofChristtheKing(November25ththisyear).TheSeasonalsoincludesAllSaint'sDay(celebratedhereonSunday,November4th)andThanksgiving.Inaddition,thisyearwewillcelebrateourPatronSaint,HughofLincoln,onSunday,November18th.

Whileapproachestomusicinworshipdifferfromoneparishcommunitytoanother,therearecertainthingsincommon.CentraltoourmusicinworshipisthepresenceofGodthroughWordandSacrament.OurmusicinworshipseekstobeanencounterwithGod,wholovesandservesusthroughtheLife,Death,andResurrectionofJesusChrist.

IhavereceivedrequestsfromseveralmembersofourcongregationwhowouldliketosingsolosduringHolyEucharist.Ipreferthattheytraintoassistourcongregationasacantorratherthanasoloist.Atthispoint,Iwillevaluatetheserequestsonaone-to-onebasisasyourMusicMinister:affirmingthewillingnesstovolunteerwhilemaintainingtheintegrityofourmusicinworshipatSt.Hugh’s.

AReminderfromtheJanuary2018ReportAtSundayHolyEucharistwesingapproximatelyfivehymns:TheProcessional,Sequence,Offertory,Post-Communion,andRecessional.ThehymnsarechoseninaccordancetotheFirstReading,theEpistle,andtheHolyGospeloftheSunday.Threehymnsaregenerallyfamiliartomembersofthecongregation,especiallylife-longEpiscopalians;onehymnisoften“new”tocongregationandanotherisan"oldfavorite,"eithertraditional,evangelical,orcontemporary.Thisiscalled"inclusive"hymnselecting:somethingforeveryone.Therearepeoplefrommanydifferentfaithtraditionswhoattendthisparish.

Sunday School ReportTo the Bishop's Committee

*AttendanceAttendance is low. Our regular attendees, Juniper and Gavin, have busy

schedules. As children get older they get involved in other interests. Sunday

then becomes the day for family rest.

*Sunday School SiteThe Sunday School is very appreciative to the parish for the Sunday School

site. I am taking down the Bible Study tables and setting up the Sunday

School tables; then the reverse happens. To this date, I have heard nothing

to the contrary.

*Sunday School FurnitureI wish to thank the Bishop's Committee for the child sized tables for theSunday School. I have added 3 green chairs and 3 purple chairs from my own

“collection”.

*Curricu|umIn mid October the Sunday School curriculum will begin to focus on thecelebration of St. Hugh. This is in addition to the regular Liturgical lessons.

The focus on the Liturgical lessons will be slightly less until after thecelebration. The season of Advent is sure to bring new excitement.

*DioceseCannon, Nancy Holland, invited all other Sunday School teachers to contact

me if they would like to hear about what we are doing at the St. Hugh Sunday

School. One response came in. I will follow up on others.
