A Brief History of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary

The Oblates of the Virgin Mary were founded in Piedmont, between Italy and France, in 1817 by Venerable Bruno Lanteri. The first Oblates were a group of zealous priests dedicated to renewing the practice of the faith and encouraging people to lives of holiness after the devastation of the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars. They dedicated themselves to giving the Spiritual Exercises and Confession. Their missions drew vast crowds of people seeking to learn the faith and be reconciled to God. The Oblates of the Virgin Mary was recognized as a congregation of pontifical right in 1826 and now minister all over the world. — Br. Nathan Marzonie, OMV
