ВІТАЄМО! WELCOME! To
all those who are tired and
need rest, to all who mourn
and need comfort, to all who
are friendless and need
friendship, to all who are dis-
couraged and need hope, to
all who are hopeless and
need sheltering love, to all
who sin and need a Saviour,
this Church opens wide its
doors in the name of the
Lord Jesus Christ!
18th Sunday after Pentecost Tropar, tone 1: Though the stone was sealed by the Jews* and soldiers, guarded Your most pure body,* You arose, O Savior, on the third day,*and gave life to the world.* And so the heavenly powers cried out to You,O Giver of life:* Glory to Your resurrection, O Christ!* Glory to Your king-dom!* Glory to Your saving plan,* O only Lover of Mankind. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever and ever. Amen! Kondak tone 1: You arose in glory from the tomb* and with Yourself You raised the world.* All humanity acclaims You as God, and death has vanished.* Adam exults, O Master,* and Eve, re-deemed now from bondage, cries out for joy:* “You are the One, O Christ, Who offer resurrection to all.” Prokimen, tone 1: Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, as we have hoped in You. Verse: Rejoice in the Lord, O you just; praise befits the righteous. Epistle: A reading from the Second Letter of the Holy Apostle Paul to the Corinthians. (9: 6 - 11) Brothers and Sisters! He who sows sparingly will reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will reap bountifully. Everyone must give according to what he has inwardly decided; not sadly, not grudgingly, for God loves a cheerful giver. God can multiply his favors among you so that you may always have enough of everything and even a surplus for good works, as it is written: “He scat-tered abroad and gave to the poor, his justice endures forever.” He who supplies seed for the sower and bread for the eater will provide in abundance; he will multiply the seed you sow and increase your generous yield. In every way your liberality is enriched; through us it results in thanks offered to God. Alleluia Verses: God gives me vindication and has subdued peoples under me. Making great the salvation of the king, and showing mercy to His anointed, to David, and to His posterity forever. Gospel: Luke 5: 1 - 11 At that time as he stood by the Lake of Gennesaret, and the crowd pressed in on him to hear the word of God, he saw two boats moored by the side of the lake; the fishermen had disembarked and were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to pull out a short distance from the shore; then, remaining seated, he continued to teach the crowds from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we have been hard at it all night long and have caught nothing; but if you say so, I will lower the nets.” Upon doing this they caught such a great number of fish that their nets were at the breaking point. They signaled to their mates in the other boat to come and help them. These came, and together they filled the two boats until they nearly sank. At the sight of this, Simon Peter fell at the knees of Jesus saying, “Leave me, Lord. I am a sinful man.” For indeed, amazement at the catch they had made seized him and all his ship-mates, as well as James and John, Zededee’s sons, who were partners with Simon. Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid. From now on you will be catching men.” With that they brought their boats to land, left everything, and became his followers. Communion Hymn: Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise Him in the highest. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

18th Sunday After Pentecost
God comes to find us
One of St. Pope John Paul II's favorite stories in Scripture was the story of Jesus asking Peter to go fishing. Jesus' call to Peter: "Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch," became the quin-tessential image for St. Pope John Paul II of the moment that faces the Church in the new millennium. St.John Paul II renewed Jesus' call to go out into the deep. Jesus' call is for us, as it was for Peter, a call to leave our complacency behind, striking out of the dullness and routine of daily life to engage in a deep spiritual encounter with our Creator. The challenge, however, is that we must head out into deep waters, where only faith can sustain us.
When Peter witnesses the miraculous catch of fish, he recognizes that there is far more to Jesus than simply a profound teacher. Peter's response to Jesus is immediate: "Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man." How natural it is for us, when we are before God, to focus on our sinfulness. Peter's sins put him in doubt that he could be close to God. And yet the point of the story is that Jesus can call a sinner into a close relation-ship with him. Jesus responds to Peter and our fears, which result from sin, that we need not part from God: "Do not be afraid." What a message! We need not fear God, in spite of all our sins, for God's love is far greater than our failures. It may be this lesson of God's love for us, despite our fear of inadequacy, which made Peter such a great fisher of people. Do I let my past sins and shortcomings block my relationship with God?
Lord Jesus, you are calling me into a deeper relationship with you. Cast away my fears so that I may move closer to your loving heart.
Operation Jericho Ride
Saturday Oct. 3 and Sunday Oct 4, 2020 Friends, we have felt a call to unite, to pray valiantly for God’s blessings to be poured out upon us, a
call to pray for God’s spiritual and physical protection upon our land and it’s people. Will you join us?
Simply commit to one hour of driving around Winnipeg’s perimeter highway, Oct 3rd
or 4th, (or
around a similar route in your community if you are not from Winnipeg) and pray the whole time in a spirit of reparation and intercession. Alternately, you can pray at home. Use whatever form of prayer
with which you are comfortable and inspired. Last April we participated in a similar event, inspired by a friend in the Catholic community. We prayed three mysteries of the rosary: the joyful, sorrowful and glorious, as well as a Chaplet of Divine Mercy. These fit into the one hour drive perfectly for us. Feel free to use any form of prayer...singing songs of praise and worship, litanies, spontaneous prayer, prayer in the spirit.
This event is consecrated to the Holy Family: Mary, Joseph and Jesus. We are seeking their inter-cession.
Simply go on the website here or below, click RSVP on the first page and again on the second page. Register please so we can be encouraged by the response of others! One last thing… please pass this on to as many people as you can. We are also encouraging all the faith communities in the city to take part, which is why we are only mentioning the ‘Catholic’ sugges-tions here. The website is more ecumenical in nature. We will be submitting this to CHVN to be an-nounced as well. May God’s almighty blessing be poured out upon us all! ~Louis and Mary
