SAINT ANNE’S CATHOLIC CHURCH BRISTOL, VIRGINIA August 20, 2017 Remember St. Anne’s in your Will and Trusts
In a world in which those who are perceived as
different seem to be at greater risk, God invites us to
break down the boundaries that separate us from
others. As we gather today, let us make this house,
God’s house, truly a house of prayer for all peoples.
Readings for this week (August 21-26)
Monday: 1 Thess. 2:2b-8; John 21:15-17
Tuesday: Isaiah 9:1-6; Luke 1:26-38
Wednesday: Judges 9:6-15; Matthew 20:1-16
Thursday: Revelation 21:9b-14; John 1:45-51
Friday: Ruth 1:1, 3-6, 14b-16, 22; Mt. 22:34-40
Saturday: Ruth 2:1-, 8-11; 4:13-17; Mt. 23:1-12
Scripture for next Sunday
(21st Sunday/Ordinary Time)
Isaiah 22:19-23
God places the key of David’s house on the
shoulders of Elikim.
Romans 11:33-36
To God be glory forever.
Matthew 16:13-20
Peter is promised the keys to the
kingdom of heaven.
Peter’s reply to Jesus’ query in next Sunday’s Gospel
brings a surprising response from Jesus. Because of his
faith, Peter is given great responsibility. When we listen to
next Sunday’s readings, perhaps we will hear God
challenging us too with unexpected responsibility. What is
God inviting you to do?

A Note from Richard D. —
I would like to express my deep appreciation to
everyone who came to my retirement reception, for all
who gave me cards and gifts, and for your many words
of kindness. Special thanks to those who set up,
prepared, served, and cleaned up after the reception.
And a huge thank you to St. Anne’s Choir for
making my final liturgy as your Director so
memorable and touching; for your humorous songs at
the reception, and for your friendship, your support,
and your generosity to me. I will miss working with
each of you. Saint Anne’s is truly a special parish,
filled with wonderful parishioners.
