———CALENDAR OF THE WEEK———

Dear Parishioners and Visitors,

I hope your summer is going well. Here’s
a list of a few things to bring to your attention. Did you
know that both OLGC and St. Ambrose have a Book of Life
in which the names of those whose funerals are celebrated
at each church are recorded, usually by a loved-one during
the funeral? And now, both books are on display. The St.
Ambrose Book of Life is on a stand next to the Presider’s
Chair in the Sanctuary, and as of this week, the OLGC
Book of Life is on display in the “St. Joseph Chapel,” be-
tween the red votive candles and the Pietá. This is a way
to both remember and pray for those members of our par-
ishes who have passed on.
Speaking of Votive Candles, if you are at St. Am-
brose and would like to light a candle, there are envelopes
located near the stature of Mary. You may deposit that en-
velope in the collection or bring it to the sacristan, and your
candle will be lit. The envelope has space to write the
name of the person you are praying for, if you wish. At
OLGC, a new money box has been placed next to the blue
votive lights near the statue of Mary, which allows you to
light a candle even when the sacristy is locked. Unlit can-
dles will be placed near the money box for the candle dona-
tion.
And finally, as members of an international
Church, we have a responsibility to support the missions of
churches in poorer and developing nations. This coming
weekend at both parishes, priests representing foreign mis-
sions will be preaching, presiding and taking up a second
collection. I’m letting you know so that you can prepare to
support these missions generously. God bless you all,
Fr. Michael

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE from
the Office of Family Life Education (A
Hope Appeal Agency)
In today’s gospel, Jesus tells us: “Do not
work for what perishes.” Give your life to what endures such
as the family history you are creating, the love and mutual
respect, which bonds you together, the memories you share
and the forgiveness generously given. These true treasures
are worth working and dying for.
