Wednesday, March 12, 2014Dear all.We take great honor announce that Safinaz Foundation (Group) has formally been established. The Foundation was launched on the 5th anniversary to mark the loss of Kenyas sports icon Yusuf Karim to promote/ support varied social activities. The foundations key focus will be to:a. Support sports though sponsorship, scholarship and provision of equipment.b. Promote education by supporting deserving students from all walks of life in Kenya.c. Giving back to the society.(where and when possible)The foundation will be initially managed by; Aasif Karim( Chairman & managing Trustee) Nazneen Karim Fatema Zehna Karim Irfan Ali KarimWe believe sports and education are key to the success of any given society. We therefore look forward to working with likeminded individuals and corporate to uplift the lives of Kenyans.Former Tennis great the late Arthur Ashe once said, From what we get, we can make a living. Yours Faithfully,AASIF KARIMCHAIRMAN/MANAGING TRUSTEEESafinaz foundation THE LABOUR DAY JUNIOR OPEN 2014 REPORTVENUE: NAIROBI CLUBDATE: 1ST, 3RD AND 4TH MAY 2014PARTICIPANTS: 87PLAYERSINTRODUCTIONThe championships, sponsored by safinaz foundation were a success .It was well attended by players from Nairobi and Kisumu.EVENTSPlayers were eligible to play a maximum of two events from the choice of 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 &under categories for both boys and girls.FORMAT OF PLAYThe format of play was as follows; The 10 and 12 & Under categories played best of three short sets (first to four games) with no advantage with the final set being a match tie break of first to ten points.The 14, 16 and 18 &under categories played best of three normal sets (first to six) with no advantage with the final set being a match tie-break.COURTSA total of seven courts were used ie Courts 1,2,3,4,7,8 and Centre with Court 6 replacing Court 1 on Saturday 3rd due to wet weather.PRIZE ALLOCATIONPrizes were awarded to all Winners and Runners-Up with semi-finalists also getting trophies. Safinaz Foundation Chairman Aasif Karim was there to present winners with prizes CONCLUSIONThe tournament ended successfully as scheduled on Sunday 4thMay 2014 at 1500hrs.Report byJames RogoiITF WHITE BADGE
