JUNIOR ACADEMY – TIMES OF PLAY

Certificate Handicap Times of Play

Platinum 0-28 May play at any time, including club competitions. Need not play with an adult. Must play off yellow and white tees (boys) or red tees (girls).

Gold 29-36 Boys must play off yellow tees at all times and girls from the Red tees. On Saturdays play is only allowed after 2.30pm.

Silver 37-54 Must play with an adult with an official handicap, or a Gold or Platinum Certificate Junior. Must play off red tees at all times. On Saturdays play is only allowed after 2.30pm.

Bronze None For juniors who have not scored 55 or better off the Blue Tees in 9 holes. Must play with an adult with an official handicap, or a Gold or Platinum Certificate Junior. Handicap for Silver Certificate based on Blue Tee score +9 shots. On Saturdays play is only allowed after 2.30pm.

On the golf course, Juniors under 28 handicap are responsible for the behaviour and etiquette of any other Juniors playing in their group. All juniors are entitled to use the practice facilities on their own.

When a Junior member introduces a Junior guest, the guest must have an official CONGU handicap of 24 or better and may not be introduced at the weekend, on bank holidays, or during the ‘restricted’ winter period. Clearance to play the course will be given by the Professional when the course is not too busy.

At the time of going to print, these are the current times of play for the Junior Section. Any amendments to these times will be posted on the Junior notice board.

NOTES & FIXTURES

1. As this fixture list goes to print in January, changes and further fixtures will be posted on notice boards as appropriate.

2. Attention is drawn to Open Meetings and Major Club Events when the course may be closed for limited periods. Partial or full closure may also be necessary on days when a course shoot takes place.

3. The TV Screen, opposite the Professional’s shop, gives details of forthcoming events on a weekly basis and shows, where possible, precise tee closure times. This information can also be found on the Club website.

4. Competitions and matches (including medals) have priority on the 1st and 10th tee. However on the course the Rules of Golf section 1 apply – priority is given to any group playing quicker.

5. The Ladies’ Section normally play their competitions on Tuesdays and lady competitors have priority on the 1st and 10th tees. Rules of Golf - Section 1 apply on the course. Business Ladies normally play their competitions on the Saturday preceding the Tuesday competition.

6. In extreme weather conditions, temporary greens may be used (with large holes). All competitions played to temporary greens with large holes will be non-qualifying events. Up to 3 temporary greens with regulation sized holes may be used for a qualifying event.

7. Mobile phones (including pagers and similar devices): May not be used on the course by players or caddies for making / sending or receiving calls or texts, except in cases of emergency. Mobile telephones should be switched off in the lounge / bar area.

8. When proceeding between the driving range and the clubhouse, please walk behind the second green and not across the second fairway.

9. The brown marker posts are placed at a distance of 150 yards from the centre of the green (not on par 3s).

10. Format of the day will be operational on Saturdays in line with those indicated by the online tee booking system. After these tee times have ended any format of play is acceptable on the course, though players in a competition (if applicable) will have priority on the 1st and 10th tees.

11. All players commencing their round on the 10th tee must be aware that priority on the tee goes to any player, where applicable, who is putting on the 9th green.

ETIQUETTE OF THE GAME OF GOLF

Slow Play: Please remember that it is the duty of every golfer to keep up with the game in front and not just ahead of the game behind. If a group loses a clear hole and is delaying the group behind, the group behind should be invited to play through irrespective of the number of players in that group (this includes a single golfer).

Priority on the course is determined by the pace of play. If the group behind is playing quicker, that group should be invited through, irrespective of the pace of any group of players in front of you.

Any group playing a whole round is entitled to pass a group playing a shorter round.

1. No one should move, talk, stand close to or directly behind the ball or the hole when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke.

2. The player who has the honour should be allowed to play before his opponent or fellow-competitor tees his ball.

3. No player should play until the group in front is out of range.

4. In the interest of all, players should play without delay.

5. A player who has incurred a penalty should intimate the fact to the opponent or marker as soon as possible.

6. Players searching for a ball should signal the players in the group behind to play through as soon as it becomes apparent that the ball will not easily be found. They should not search for 5 minutes before doing so. If the ball is found before the following group passes, it is acceptable for both groups to continue playing the hole together to the green, provided all players in both groups are in agreement. The group let through should be allowed to putt out first, and then proceed to the next tee.

7. After having played out of a bunker, a player should rake the sand smooth again to leave a fresh surface for other players.

8. A player should ensure that any divot taken is replaced at once and pressed down, and on the putting green any pitch mark is repaired correctly as soon as possible.

9. Players should ensure that, when placing the flagstick on the green, no damage is done to the putting surface. Also, when attending the flagstick neither they nor their caddies damage the hole. The flagstick should be properly replaced.

10. When the result of a hole has been determined, players should immediately leave the putting green and should not re-try their putts or practice putting.

11. Members are reminded that the Captains are given preference at all times on the 1st tee.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

1. Adverse Weather Conditions:

a. Lightning:

If lightning is seen in the locality, and an air horn is sounded with three short blasts, from key points on the course by the Starter / Marshal you MUST leave the course immediately. The competition will re-start following a single long blast from the same horn. Please note that it remains your own responsibility to keep yourself safe, and should you at any time feel there is a risk of dangerous weather, please leave the course and report it to a member of staff or club official.

b. Fog:

Play must not commence until the marker post on the 1st hole is clearly visible from the white tee. If at any point in the round visibility deteriorates so that you are unable to see your ball land, you must stop play immediately.

c. Ice / Frost:

When conditions under foot are hard and or slippery, please take extra care on all slopes, in particular those around greens, tees and bunkers. If you do choose to play and continue playing under such conditions, you do so wholly at your own risk.

2. Blind Shots:

Hole 1 – Please wait to be allowed to play by the starter. If there is not a starter ensure you have allowed the prior group to all play their approach shot to the green.

Hole 4 – Do not attempt to cut the corner on the 4th hole unless you have been able to confirm that the group in front are well clear

Hole 6 – Please ensure the group in front are given sufficient time to play their second shot. If you or any of your group find yourself waiting to play your second shot, out of view of the tee, please leave a bag or a player on the top of the hill to alert the following golfers.

Hole 10 – Please use the viewing platform to the rear of the tee box to ensure it is clear to play

Hole 16 – Please wait until you have heard the bell ring, or ensure there are no golfers within range before playing

3. Walkways:

a. From the 8th green to the 9th tee, please be aware of golfers playing into the 16th Green (Right) and the 10th green (left)

b. From 10th green to 11th tee please be aware of golfers playing to the 16th green (Right)

c. From 16th green to 17th tee please be aware of golfers playing to the 8th green (left)

d. From 17th green to the 18th tee please be aware of crossing the 2nd hole and golfers teeing off from the 2nd tee.

4. Boundaries

a. Please ensure balls on the 3rd hole do not leave the course boundary marked by the flint wall to the right of the hole. If your ball does leave the course over this boundary you must inform a member of staff or a club official on completion of your round

b. Please do not attempt to leave the course over or through any of our boundary walls or fences.

c. Any areas where the surface of the ground has been disturbed by tractors or other green-keeping machinery.

4. Distance Measuring Devices (e.g. Skycaddie etc)

For all play on this course a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. If, during the round, a player uses a distance measuring device that has the ability to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (eg. gradient , wind speed, temperature etc) the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional function is actually used.

Penalty for Breach of Local Rule

Penalty for breach of local rule (except for item 4) is loss of two strokes (stroke play) or loss of hole (match play).

NotesNote 1. Recovery of golf balls by entering the woods or land adjacent to the course is prohibited.

18. When winter rules are in force from 1st November until 31st March, a ball lying on a closely mown area through the green may be lifted without penalty and cleaned. Before lifting the ball, the player must mark its position. If the player fails to mark the position, or moves the ball in any other manner such as rolling it with a club, a penalty is incurred of one stroke. Having lifted the ball it must be replaced on a spot within 6 inches of where it originally lay, but not nearer the hole and not in a hazard or on a putting green. A player may move or place his ball once, and after the ball has been so moved or placed it is in play. The general penalty for breach of this local Rule is: match play – loss of hole; stroke play – 2 strokes.

19. The use of buggies in any competition is not allowed, except where a satisfactory medial certificate is lodged with the General Office and updated annually as necessary, or where permission is given by the Club Professional or Competitions’ & Handicap Committee for that round only in exceptional circumstances. If a player is given permission to use a buggy, his / her playing partner must not ride on the buggy but may use the buggy to carry their clubs (max 2 bags per buggy).

OTHER COMPETITION CONDITIONS

for contacting the opponent immediately after each round. However this does not relieve the opponent from an obligation to arrange the match.

c. When two competitors find it impossible to arrange a date for a match, they should try and make a decision themselves, either by conceding or by any other agreed method. Failing this, if one player arrives on the 1st tee at 13:30 on the last day, that player shall have the option of claiming the match, providing a member of the Competitions’ & Handicap Committee or the General Manager are advised by that player: otherwise, both players will be eliminated. In the case of a foursome or 4-ball competition, both partners wishing to claim the match must be present on the tee at the stated time.

Cards returned for these competitions qualify for revision of handicap if the competition is deemed to be a qualifying competition.

3. Part week members may play in all competitions (in which they are eligible by the Rules). They must pay a green fee on Saturdays and Sundays except after 16:00.

UNLESS PREvIOUSLY STATED THE PENALTY FOR BREACH OF ANY LOCAL RULE IS DISQUALIFICATION
