Dear Sacred Hearts Parishioners: This past weekend, Pentecost Sunday, we honored Blessed Óscar Romero at a special liturgy held on Saturday evening. The El Salvadoran Consul General, Alba Azucena López de Rodríguez, and the consulate attorney, Anna Alonzo, paid tribute to this saintly and heroic patriot! Hundreds of parishioners gathered at the Cheverus auditorium after the Mass to celebrate Romero’s sacrifice and victory! The need for a Saint Vincent DePaul Society at Sacred Hearts Parish has been discussed. Saint Vincent de Paul is administered and structured on a parochial rather than on a municipal level. His Eminence has asked each parish in the Archdiocese to have a St. Vincent de Paul program. I am told there was one here years ago. Inspired by Gospel values of holiness of life, service to the poor, humility, simplicity, charity, justice and friendship, this Catholic lay organization offers person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering, in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and its patron, St. Vincent de Paul. Organized locally, Vincentians witness God’s love by embracing all works of charity and justice. Recruitment of volunteers is underway now. The primary officers are a president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary, as well as staff members. Please see me after Mass or leave a telephone message if you would like to serve in Sacred Hearts St. Vincent de Paul Society. On another note. Some members of the Parish finance council are nearing the end of their terms. New members will greatly assist our efforts as some subcommittee work is now necessary. Due to the nature of the work and deliberations, a degree in accounting or finance is a prerequisite. Please call me to discuss a possible place on the council. This weekend we welcome Father Robert Vujs, a Maryknoll priest, who will speak on behalf of the Society of the Propagation of the Faith. Since the first Pentecost, our Church is essentially missionary. By supporting the “Missionary Cooperative Appeal” you can share in a very real way the work of every priest, nun, brother, and lay missionary who brings the Good News to the “ends of the earth!” God Bless You! Fr. Mark

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. Here it is - we’ve been commissioned, right along with the disciples. Go. Baptize. Teach. All imperatives. Equally important - perhaps even more important - is the last line: “...I am with you always, until the end of the age.” Evangelization is the work of the whole Church - and we’re not alone. He is with us ALWAYS.

Trinity Sunday
When my friends’ 8 year-old daughter developed a fear of the dark, they employed several different strategies to calm her fears. Explaining noises in the house, installing a night light, and allow-ing her to call out for reassurance enabled her to feel more secure
in her own room. Lots of love and support put her fears to rest.
Everyone has fears and struggles and doubts. In our families, we should be able to find the support and strength we need. Discussion, reassurance, and companionship shrink our concerns to a manageable size. Our homes should be places to grow stronger, healthier and wiser. It is the school of life where we learn the best lesson of all: uncondi-tional, unfailing love. Family is there to love us, celebrating our victories and sharing our defeats.
The Holy Spirit gathers us all into the home of the Lord. In Him, we find the strength, power and support we need to grow in holiness and overcome fear and the shame of sin. With God, we are safe and secure. He heals us, forgives us and loves us unconditionally and without fail. Not a bad place to be when we are afraid of the dark!
