December 8, 2015 began the Jubilee Year of Mercy . It will call on Catholics to

reflect on the theme of mercy and serve as a

unifying moment for the church globally.

During a jubilee, Catholics can obtain special indulgences, or

remission for their sins, if they fulfill certain conditions and do good works or

make pilgrimages.

Bishop Mulvey issued a decree on Friday, December 4th, designating 5 churches in the Diocese of Corpus Christi as “Pilgrim churches” for the Year of Mercy. Making a pilgrimage to these churches will make

pilgrims eligible for a *plenary indulgence if all other criteria are met.

The five churches are:

St. Joseph Catholic Church ~ Beeville St. Joseph Catholic Church ~ Kingsville St. Elizabeth of Hungary ~ Alice The Chapel of Our Lady of Schoenstatt ~ Lamar Our Lady of Perpetual Help ~ Corpus Christi

*It is important to recall that in order to receive the grace of the Jubilee Indulgence, which can be gained once a day, it is necessary to perform the act—in this case, pilgrimage to the doors of the Corpus Christi Cathedral or any of these designated sites during the Jubilee Year of Mercy—Rece ive the Sac rament o f Reconciliation and the Most Holy Eucharist within 20 days, be free from all attachment to sin, and pray for the Intentions of the Holy Father.
