POPE FRANCIS GENERAL AUDIENCE
Wednesday, 10 May 2017
Dear Brothers and Sisters: In our continuing catechesis on Christian hope, we now turn to Mary, Mother of Hope.
Our Lady’s experience of motherhood models that of so many mothers in our world. Hers is a witness of courage in
accepting her vocation and welcoming the new life entrusted to her. It is also a witness of quiet yet trusting obedience
to God’s will amid the trials of life. The Gospels speak of a certain “eclipse” of Mary during the public ministry of
Jesus. She follows her Son in silence, yet in his passion, when most of the disciples flee, she remains with him to the
very end. The image of Mary standing at the foot of the cross and grieving the death of her innocent Son has inspired
artists of every age to present her as a model of persevering hope in God’s promises. That hope was the fruit of a life of
prayer and daily effort to be conformed to God’s will, and was fulfilled in Jesus’ rising to new life. As Mother of
Hope, may Our Lady remain at our side, sustain us by her prayers and guide our steps as we seek to follow her Son
every day of our lives.

From Bishop Stephen Jensen’s Office
Bishop Stephen Jensen announces, with sincere regret, that we will bid farewell to Fr. Melvin Pinto, OCD, and Fr.
Ronald Sequeira, OCD, at the end of July. Their Carmelite Provincial is seeking to concentrate their community’s efforts
on their charism of spiritual direction, and the building up of their formation house in Vancouver.
He has also announced the appointment of the Very Reverend Rectorino Tolentino, Jr. as the Rector of the Cathedral
beginning August 1, 2017.
Sacred Heart School will present "A Thousand Cranes" this coming week. This play is based on the life of Sadako Sasaki
who survived the Hiroshima atom bomb only to fall victim to radiation sickness ten years later. Sadako learned that if
she folded one thousand paper cranes, her wishes would be granted. The play will be staged on Tuesday, May 16th in
the school auditorium. Curtain 7:00 p.m. All welcome!
As part of our commitment to healthy options, our Grade Six/Seven students are in training for the Terry Wilson
Memorial Soccer Tournament which is planned for Friday, May 26th at the City Soccer Fields. Teams are coming from
near and far to participate in this much anticipated event. Go Panthers!
An Assembly was hosted by Mme. Lizotte and the Grade 3/4 students last week. Our Kindergarten/G1 students hosted a
Mother's Day Celebration on May 9th. We were delighted to thank our mothers for all they do for us. The annual
Mother's Day Pancake Breakfast is set for Sunday, May 14th after both Masses. All welcome!
Our students & staff will attend the Vanderhoof Children's Theatre production of "Dr. Seussical" on May 18th. We are
greatly looking forward to the drama, music and spectacle of the show!
Thank you to all those who ordered plants in our Mother's Day Plant Sale. We hope the recipients enjoy them during
the summer!
Sacred Heart School wishes all our mothers and the special women in our lives many blessings and peace on Mother's
Day!
Sacred Heart School is accepting registrations for Kindergarten and other grades for September, 2017. If you would like
to give your child the gift of a Catholic Education, please visit our informative website or call the school office at

Good Neighbour Food Drive
On April 5, 2017 a fire destroyed a cedar mill, one of the main employers in McBride, causing hardship
for many in the community. Parishioners of the four city parishes are invited to participate in the food
drive to help St. Patrick’s Parish and the community of McBride.
We are inviting all parishioners to bring non-perishable food to your parish before or after Mass on
the weekend of May 21, 2017 and place in the designated boxes.
St Vincent de Paul volunteers are collecting the food from the parishes on Monday, the 22nd of May and will
be delivering the food to McBride that day.
In addition to the food items, St. Vincent de Paul is seeking volunteers from each parish to help load the
truck at their parish. Please call Bernie at 250-564-3416 or Fran at 250-613-1440 if you have any questions.
“Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.” Mark 25:40
St Vincent Thrift Store As many of you know, St Vincent's Thrift Store is bursting at the seams. We have acquired new premises at 1645 Third
Avenue. We are still in need of people who would be available for labour duties on an 'on-call' basis. We are also
looking for trades people who would be able to help, particularly with plumbing and electrical work. If you are
available, please call Ron at 250-565-5034.
Volunteers for Saturday Afternoon Sandwich Line St Vincent de Paul is in urgent need of volunteers for their Saturday afternoon sandwich line. If you can help or would
like more information, please contact Joy at 250-564-4148 or Seamus at 250-640-8475.

Catholic Christian Outreach (CCO)
We are excited to announce that for the first time, Catholic Christian Outreach (CCO) will be hosting one of their
