Pontifical Servers
On Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 9:00AM Mass, 12 young men are
being recognized as Pontifical Servers for the Diocese of Prince
George. These young men are undergoing basic liturgical
formation and training with Fr. Rector for the last two months.
Pontifical servers consist of a group of young men who serve at
those Sacred Liturgies at which the Bishop presides. The
Bishop and Cathedral are important because they signify
Christ and the Mother Church, the center of liturgical life of the
Diocese. Those who serve as Pontifical Servers participate in
this life of the Diocese in a major role. Serving the Sacred
Liturgy is only one facet of being a Pontifical Server. This
apostolate provides a means for young men to grow in their
faith and love of the church through the example of the priests
and the presence of their fathers.
We thank these young men for their willingness to serve.

Dear Parishioners of Sacred Heart Cathedral,
Peace be with you!
I am happy to introduce myself to you as your new priest. I am appointed by our Bishop, Most Reverend Stephen
Jensen as the new Rector of the Cathedral effective August 1, 2017. He will officially install me on Sunday, August
13th, 2017 at 11:00 AM Mass. I invite all of you to witness the celebration. A simple lunch will be served after the
Mass.
Having served in this parish community as an assistant when I was newly ordained in 2007, I return to you as a
brother, a fellow disciple, a priest, and a friend.
I realize that we are all children of God; brothers and sisters in Christ. If there is any basic relationship that I have
with you and you with me, it is precisely this: that we are brothers and sisters to one another by the virtue of our
own Baptism.
We are also fellow disciples of the Lord. As people of God who believe and want to follow Christ, we form a
community of the Lord’s disciples. We are here in the parish living and working together in response to the
Lord’s call, “Come follow me.” No matter our differences in age, status in life, family and professional background,
religious association, we are here to listen to the voice of the Father: “This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well
pleased; listen to him!” We are to strive to respond faithfully and obediently to the Lord, hoping that in time we
grow and learn with him as our true teacher and friend. I am with you as a fellow disciple and I know the
challenges that it entails as well as the joy that it brings. I am here to encourage you, to invite you, even to
challenge you to grow together with me in our common discipleship with the Lord. We will all journey together
in faith, hope and love.
I have been sent by Bishop Jensen to you, to be your new priest. I am thankful of Fr. Melvin Pinto, OCD, the
previous Rector for all the good and beautiful things he had contributed to the life of the parish community. I
intend to continue to collaborate with Bishop Jensen, as our Pastor, in his work of shepherding us in ways that
respond to the needs of the times and the needs of our people today. I hope that you put your trust in me, your
confidence, your respect, and your love. I cannot do anything without your trust anymore than a father or a
mother can educate and nourish their children without their trust.
Time will come we shall part. When that comes our relationship inevitably gets transformed, and hopefully from
that of priest-parishioners to friends. But even now, I wish we can all be friends. Among friends, there is
spontaneity and reciprocity, openness and sincerity; there is a loving concern and respectful acceptance of one
another’s strengths and weaknesses.
I trust that God’s grace will work in me to be the person that he wants me to be, especially for you. I also trust that
you will be there with me, supporting me with your love and your prayers, with your precious company in my
own moments of sorrow and joy, success and failure. In the end, we stay together as one family, one people, one
community called by the Lord to love one another with a love that he has shown us even to death.
