record BreakdoWn2015 Wofford volleyBall noTeSScouting the Bulldogs• Samford comes to Benjamin Johnson Arena off three straight wins, including its last two in SoCon play over Mercer (3-1) and UNCG (3-0) ... Both of Samford’s SoCon wins have come at home, with Friday night’s match the team’s first on the road in league action ... Statistically, Samford’s biggest strength in on the block and in the service game, ranking No. 3 in the SoCon in each category ... The Bulldogs average 1.93 blocks per set (Wofford is fourth at 1.92) and 1.64 aces per set ... The block is led by senior Emily Meitz, who averages 1.04 blocks per set, which would rank third in the SoCon, but Meitz has played just 26 of 45 sets and does not meet the minimum to be ranked ... Redshirt sophomore T.J. Russell ranks 10th in the league in blocks per set at 0.76 ... The primary threat behind the service line is freshman Alana Schouten, who has 15 aces in 40 sets played and ranks No. 2 in the SoCon in aces per set, averaging 0.38 ... Samford’s attack ranks fourth in the SoCon with a hitting percentage of .223 ... The Bulldogs will look to run their middles, as Meitz enters with a team-best hitting percentage of .380, while junior Kiahna Wicks hits .358 ... The Bulldog offense is quarterbacked by two setters, junior Erika Pifer and freshman Taylor Ander-ton, with Pifer getting the majority of the sets, entering the match averaging 10.19 pet set.

Last Time vs. Samford• Wofford ended the 2014 regular season with its fifth straight defeat in a three-set sweep at Samford (23-25, 14-25, 23-25) at the Pete Hanna Center ... Samford broke a 23-all first-set tie with the final two points to take a one-set lead ... A dominat-ing second set put the Bulldogs in front by a pair, but Wofford put up a fight in the third ... The Terriers led the majority of the way until Samford grabbed the lead late ... Wofford hung on to tie the final frame at 22 before the home team tallied three of the final four points for the sweep ... The Bulldogs had a significant advantage in the serve game, combining for eight aces while Wofford had eight serving errors to just one ace ... SoCon Player of the Year Michaela Reesor led all players with 16 kills on a dominating .538 hitting percentage, also posting four aces to finish with a match-high 20 points ... Samford’s attack outhit Wofford .358 to .262 ... Emily Meitz was also impressive with nine kills (.615) ... Senior Taylor Baird had another good game on the attack for the Terriers, tallying a team-high 11 kills and hitting .526 ... Freshman middle Danni Densford joined in with an error-free eight kills (.667).

Tough Home Start• Wofford is trying to endure what is a tough schedule to start the home season, which lines the Terriers up against Chat-tanooga, Samford and Furman in their first three matches ... All three of those teams enter Friday undefeated in the SoCon, and are the only three teams still unbeaten ... Furman won the 2014 regular season championship by going 14-2 ... Samford won the 2014 tournament championship, going 11-5 in the regu-lar season before defeating Furman in the tournament final to earn its second trip to the NCAA Tournament (2011) ... Chat-tanooga went just 6-10 last season, but seems to have put all the pieces together for 2015, entering Friday with 10 consecutive victories, a 14-2 overall record and a 3-0 mark in the league ... Wofford fell to the Mocs in three sets in its home opener (23-25, 17-25, 18-25) ... The Terriers have never defeated Samford since the Bulldogs joined the Southern Conference in 2008, and have beaten Furman just once since 2006 (1-19), earning the lone win in five sets in 2012.

Graham Goes 30-30• Senior libero Jessica Graham has recorded 30 digs in each of Wofford’s last two matches ... Both of those matches have gone five sets, the first coming last Tuesday at USC Upstate and the second coming Friday at Western Carolina ... They marked the fourth and fifth 30-dig matches of Graham’s career ... Graham’s career-high for digs in a match is 34, which she accomplished as a sophomore at Western Carolina on Oct. 11, 2013 ... Graham enters today’s match with 1,600 career digs, which is 32 shy of surpassing the program record of 1,631 held by Regan Styles ‘13.

A Long-Awaited Comeback• Wofford came back from two sets down to defeat Charleston Southern (17-25, 16-25, 31-29, 25-21, 15-11) at the Caro-lina Classic on September 18, marking the first time the Terriers completed a two-set comeback since September 4, 2009 at Gardner-Webb ... The Terriers had to fight to do so, as the Buccaneers saved eight set points in the third before Wofford finally converted for a 31-29 victory ... A comeback seemed bleak in the fourth as Wofford trailed 20-12, only to end the set on a 13-1 run to win 25-21 and force a fifth set ... In the tiebreak, the Terriers went down once again, 6-2, but scored the next five points and completed an 8-1 run ahead 10-7, eventually overcoming the Bucs 15-11.

Graham Digs 1,500 • Senior L/DS Jessica Graham became the second Terrier in program history to surpass 1,500 career digs on September 18, reaching the mark with a 27-dig performance in Wofford’s five-set win over Charleston Southern ... The 27 digs marked a season-high, before she bested it with 30 digs at both USC Upstate (Sep. 22) and Western Carolina (Sep. 25).

Block Party• Wofford recorded a season-high 13 blocks to defeat East Carolina (Sep. 19) at the Carolina Classic, marking the team’s most in a match since 2012 ... The 13-block performance ranks sixth in school history in a four-set match ... The Terriers went on to record 13 blocks once more in a five-set loss at USC Upstate (Sep. 22).

She also accumulated a team-high 481.5 total points and aver-aged 3.85 points per set to rank fourth in the league.

Act II for All-Freshman Trio• Middle Danni Densford, setter Molly Mayo & outside hitter Bella Santoro are Wofford’s three returning Southern Conference All-Freshman Team selections from a year ago ... Wofford had three of the league’s seven all-freshman selec-tions ... Now sophomores, each was named SoCon Freshman of the Week at least once during the 2014 regular season, with Densford earning the honors twice ... Densford hit .310 to lead the Terriers and rank fifth in the Southern Conference ... She finished the season with 242 kills (2.02/set), 301 points (2.51/set) and a team-leading 87 total blocks (0.73/set) ... Mayo started the entire season at setter and finished No. 3 in the SoCon in both total assists (1,272) and assists per set (10.78) ... Mayo’s 1,272 assists rank second in school history for a single season ... Santoro registered a team-high 12 double-doubles, posting 354 kills and 393 points ... The Greer, S.C., native averaged 3.28 kills and 3.64 points per set, ranking top 10 in the conference in each category ... Santoro also compiled 281 digs (2.60/set) and 33 total blocks (0.31/set).

Full of Youth• Though not as young as they were in 2014, the Terriers, once again, boast a very youthful roster in 2015 ... Of the 13 players on the roster, 10 are underclassmen and just three are upperclassmen ... The upperclassmen consist of seniors L/DS Jessica Graham and middle Liz Buterbaugh, along with junior Ellie Tallman ... Of the underclassmen, two are true freshmen, one is a redshirt freshman, six are sophomores and one is a redshirt sophomore ... Last season, Wofford boasted one of the youngest rosters in the nation that consited of 10 freshmen, one sophomore, three juniors and two seniors.

Looking to Defy Expectations• Wofford was picked to finish seventh in the Southern Conference Preseason Poll ... The Terriers received 21 votes to share the seventh spot with Mercer ... Last season, the Terriers finished eighth in the SoCon standings with a record of 4-12. Southern Conference Preseason Poll Rk. School Votes 1. Samford (5) 58 Furman (3) 58 3. UNCG (1) 54 4. Wofford at GeorgiaFriday, Aug. 28 - Ramsey Center - Athens, Ga.

Wofford got Georgia’s full attention in Friday night’s season opener. After dropping the first set, the Terriers took a 7-6 lead in set two and never looked back, winning 25-20 to go to the intermission tied at a set apiece. The upset was not in the cards. UGA controlled the third and held off the Terriers in a hard-fought fourth for the win (25-17, 20-25, 25-8, 25-18) on day one of the Benson Hospitality Invitational.

In her Wofford debut, freshman Colleen Reilly led the Terrier attack with eight kills. However, her .182 attack percentage led all Terriers as well, as Wofford finished at .033 (30-26-123) for the match. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs hit .302 (44-12-106) to pull away. Sophomore Alex Holland had seven kills while redshirt fresh-man Lauren Miller totaled six. The Terriers had seven aces, six of which contributed to the second-set victory, while the Bulldogs tallied 13 with eight in the 25-8 third. Senior libero Jessica Graham turned in a team-high 16 digs. Sophomore outside Bella Santoro also reached double figures with 10, and sophomore setter Molly Mayo had 26 assists, eight digs and a team-high three aces. Outside hitter Amanda Dachs totaled a match-high 12 kills for UGA. Middle Desiree McCray was the most effective, striking nine kills and hitting a match-high .467.

Notes:- Colleen Reilly and Lauren Miller made their collegiate debut.- Reagan Petty made her Wofford debut. She transferred to the Terriers after playing at Alabama in 2014.- Lynze Roos made her head coaching debut for Wofford.- Wofford fell to 0-2 in the all-time series with Georgia, last playing the Bulldogs at the Ramsey Center in 2007.

Match 2Wofford vs. Memphis

Saturday, Aug. 29 - Ramsey Center - Athens, Ga.

Sophomore Alex Holland blasted a match-high 15 kills and hit .379, however, she was the only player that gave Memphis any trouble. The rest of the team hit a combined -.079 as the Tigers swept the Terriers in Wofford’s first of first of two matches Saturday at the Benson Hospitality Invitational. Holland was hot from the start, striking for six kills in the first set. She kept Wofford in a tight opening set and added seven kills in the third, but the sophomore’s effort was not enough alone. Memphis found its way around, outhitting Wofford .226 to .068 to secure the victory. Wofford outdueled Memphis for most of the individual super-latives. Sophomore Molly Mayo set for a match-high 22 assists and classmate Bella Santoro had a match-high four blocks. On the ground, senior Jessica Graham went for 12 digs, which was one shy of Memphis’ Mady Ruhlman’s match-high 13. Memphis took advantage on the attack and on serve, tallying 12 aces to Wofford’s one. Each team had five blocks. On the Tiger attack, it was right side hitter McKenzie Hayes who led the way with nine kills at a .400 clip. Outsides Catlin Lilly and Oluchi Agomuo had seven and six kills, respectively.

Notes:- Bella Santoro earned a career-high four blocks against Memphis.- Wofford fell to 0-2 in the all-time series with Memphis. The last time the two teams met was 2003.

Match 3Wofford vs. High Point

Saturday, Aug. 29 - Ramsey Center - Athens, Ga.

A career outing for Alex Holland could not lift Wofford to victory, as the Terriers fell to High Point in five on the final day of the Benson Hospitality Invitational. After striking for 15 kills and hitting .379 earlier in the day against Memphis, Holland chalked up a career-high 22 kills and hit .476 against High Point. It shattered her previous career-high of 16, which she achieved twice as a freshman. However, Wofford could not get over the hump. Ahead two sets, the Terriers were presented with double match point at 24-22 in the third. A High Point kill and three straight Wof-ford errors helped the Panthers storm back, claiming the last four points of the third to steal the set, 26-24. The Terriers still needed just one of the final two sets to earn their first victory of the year, but could not find it. High Point (1-2) jumped out to large leads of 10-5 and 20-11 to run away with the fourth. In the deciding fifth, the only Terrier lead came after the set’s first point. HPU ran off the next five and Wofford never led again, succumbing to defeat on Camryn Freiberg’s 10th kill of the match. Holland totaled 37 kills and hit .437 on the day. For the tour-nament, she hit .337 with 44 kills, averaging 3.67 kills per set to land on the Benson Hospitality Invitational All-Tournament Team - the first all-tournament selection of her career. Freshman Colleen Reilly showed what she could do on the block. In just her third match of her collegiate career, Reilly posted nine rejections, tying for the No. 10 spot in school history. Miller went for six in what was only the third match of her career, as well, as the Terriers outblocked High Point 12-7.

Notes:- Alex Holland posted career-highs of 22 kills and 23.0 points.- Holland also matched a career-high with 42 attack attempts.- Colleen Reilly tied for 10th in school history with nine blocks.- Five Terriers recorded double-figure digs (Graham 15, Miller 13, Mayo 12, Petty 11, Santoro 10). It marked the first such occasion since Oct. 19, 2012

The Terriers were only troubled in set two. Jacksonville State (3-2) called a timeout trailing 16-12 and came out of the stop-page scoring four straight to even things up. JSU had the third set within a single point at 14-13, but Wof-ford pulled away. Two Gamecock errors and a Holland kill were the start to an 11-4 Terrier run that closed out the match. Three Terriers reached double figures as sophomores Alex Holland, Danni Densford and freshman Colleen Reilly all finished with a team-high 10 kills. Holland led all Terriers in points, topping off her night with three aces and two blocks to total 14.5. Densford hit a team-best .444. Wofford vs Alcorn StateSaturday, Sept. 5 - Cherokee Center & Arena - Centre, Ala.

Redshirt freshman Lauren Miller blistered a career-high 12 kills, sophomore Danni Densford posted 11 kills on just 13 swings and sophomore setter Molly Mayo registered her third double-double, which added up to a 3-0 sweep for the Wofford volleyball team over Alcorn State on Saturday morning at the Gamecock Invitational. The win makes it four in a row for Wofford (4-3) and also pushes the Terriers over .500 for the first time in 2015. Mean-while, Alcorn State dropped its sixth straight to begin the year. After pulling away late in the first, Wofford came back from 20-15 down to steal the second. Miller sparked the rally with a kill and then went back to serve two straight aces. Wofford tied it up at 21 when senior libero Jessica Graham found a hole in the Alcorn defense. Densford went up for a solo block to put the Terriers in front and senior Liz Buterbaugh finished off the comeback with a kill. It took the wind right out of Alcorn State’s sail. The Terriers dominated the third set, forcing the Braves to hit -.143 for the sweep. On top of her 12 slams, Miller recorded more career-highs of five aces and 17.5 points. The Terriers outhit the Braves .269 to .122 for the match, thanks in large part to Densford’s .846 percentage attack percentage, the highest by any Terrier this season. Mayo ran the offense with a match-high 33 assists on Wof-ford’s 41 kills. She added 10 digs for her double-double, as well as three blocks and an ace.

Notes:- Wofford extended its winning streak to four matches.- Molly Mayo (3) recorded a double-double- It was the first series meeting between the Terriers and Alcorn St.

Wofford (5-3) got the day started at 9 a.m. Central Time with a 25-19, 25-23, 25-13 defeat of Alcorn State (1-7). In the afternoon, the Terriers kept it going with a 25-15, 25-16, 25-21 victory over Alabama A&M (1-6), completing the tournament undefeated and earning their fifth straight win. “It was a great tournament for us to work on staying in system and controlling our side of the court,” said first-year head coach Lynze Roos. “We stuck to the gameplan from start to finish and I saw some good offense from multiple people. Wofford came up empty in its final match at the Cofc Invitational, dropping three close sets to 2014 Atlantic Sun Tournament champion Jacksonville on Saturday afternoon at TD Arena.

The Terriers had a near chance to take a one-set lead on Jacksonville in the back end of Saturday’s doubleheader. The Terriers had set point at 24-23, 26-25 and 28-27, but could not convert on either of their three chances. JU got consecutive kills from Kelly Koop and Jizzyan Gesualdo to finish off the set, 30-28, and put the Terriers away. Sophomore Bella Santoro tallied her fourth double-double of the season in the loss, tying a career-high with 18 digs and polishing off a team-high 15 kills (.256). Three other Terriers joined Santoro with double-figure digs, as senior libero Jessica Graham went for 18, sophomore Reagan Petty had 12 and redshirt freshman Lauren Miller had 11.

Freshman middle Colleen Reilly had a good match on the attack with six kills at a .455 percentage. Sophmore middle Danni Densford also attacked well at .333 with five kills. The two middles combined for five blocks.

After a gutwrenching first set that required extra points, the Terriers battled to a 17-14 lead in set two. Jacksonville fought back to take a late 21-20 advantage and scored six of the final seven points to go ahead by two sets.

Wofford hoped to return the favor in the third as JU went in front 17-14 before a Terrier rally tied things up at 20. However, JU was better down the stretch, scoring four straight and five of the final six points for the sweep.

Notes:- Bella Santoro recorded her fourth double-double of the year, tying a career-high in digs with 18.- Newcomer Reagan Petty earned a career-high 12 digs.

After dropping the first two sets to Charleston Southern, the Wofford volleyball team rallied to earn a five-set victory Friday afternoon at the Carolina Classic, hosted by South Carolina.

The Terriers began the comeback by holding off CSU in a grueling third. Wofford led 24-21, only to see the Buccaneers save three straight set points and eight set points in all. Bella Santoro finally got Wofford on the board on the ninth try, 31-29, forcing a fourth.

CSU looked primed to put the match away. The Buccaneers used an 11-3 run to go in front 20-12 in the fourth and were just five points from victory. However, the Terriers put on a huge rally, scoring seven straight and ending the set on an incredible 13-1 run to take the set 25-21.

It brought the match to a fifth set, where the Terriers prevailed. Again, they came from behind to do so, erasing Charleston Southern’s 6-2 lead with an 8-1 run and capping off the come-back on a dump set from sophomore Molly Mayo.

It marked the first time in over six years that Wofford (6-6) came back from two sets down to win. The last time it had been done was September 4, 2009 at Gardner-Webb.

Lauren Miller led the charge, hitting .312 with a career-high 20 kills. She added 10 digs for her second double-double. Danni Densford was also impressive with 12 kills at a .310 pace, tack-ing on a match-high six blocks. Mayo earned a double-double as well with 47 assists and 14 digs.

Senior libero Jessica Graham went for a season-high 27 digs. In doing so, she became the second Terrier in history to eclipse 1,500 career digs.

Notes:- Wofford came back to win from two sets down for the first time since September 4, 2009 at Gardner-Webb.- Jessica Graham surpassed 1,500 career digs.- Lauren Miller had a career-high 20 kills.- Miller (2) and Molly Mayo (5) recorded double-doubles.

Wofford vs. East CarolinaSaturday, Sept. 19 - Carolina Volleyball Center - Columbia, S.C.

Wofford kicked off day two of the Carolina Classic with a four-set victory over East Carolina Saturday morning at the Carolina Volleyball Center on the campus of South Carolina. Danni Densford was the highlight. The Sellersburg, Indiana product hit a blistering .458 on her way to a match- and career-high 14 kills. Densford was also a threat on the block, earning a season-high six rejections. Densford helped the Terriers outhit East Carolina (6-4) .175 to .085. Wofford also recorded a season-high 13 blocks, its most in a match since 2012 against Charleston Southern, while the Pirates had just three.

Wofford jumped out to a 10-5 lead in both the first and second sets. Both times, East Carolina made a late run to get back in it. The first go around, the Terriers were able to hold it off with ECU committing more errors than kills. In the second, the Pirates were able to hit .316 to tie the match at a set apiece. For the third straight set, Wofford began ahead 10-5. This time, the Terriers were able to extend the advantage. Densford hit .500 in the frame and Alex Holland converted a set-high five kills (.444), helping the Terriers to 16 kills in the set. The Wofford lead grew to 18-10 before ECU went on a 12-5 run to get back within a point at 23-22. Coach Roos called time and the Terriers were able to stop the run and win the set. It was a runaway in the fourth. With Wofford leading 14-11, Densford slammed out of her four kills in the frame that began an 11-4 run. Holland, Reilly, Bella Santoro and Lauren Miller powered home a few more along the way and setter Molly Mayo served five straight points to put the set out of reach.

Notes:- Wofford recorded a season-high 13 blocks, its most in a match since 2012 and the sixth-most in school history in four sets.- Danni Densford had career-highs of 14 kills and 18.5 points.- Molly Mayo had a season-high 48 assists.- It was the first meeting between Wofford and ECU since 2009.

Match 14Wofford at South Carolina

Saturday, Sept. 19 - Carolina Volleyball Center - Columbia, S.C.

Wofford could not muster enough offense to outduel tourna-ment host South Carolina. The Gamecocks posted 50 kills to Wofford’s 30 and outhit the Terriers .343 to .184 to earn the title at their home Carolina Classic. The young Terriers did show some promise, outblocking their SEC foe 9-3. Densford headed the effort with five, while Reilly and Mayo each had four. Reilly had nine kills to lead the attack at a .318 pace. Densford and Holland were also impressive with six kills apiece, hitting .357 and .333, respectively. Darian Dozier had a match-high 13 kills for the Gamecocks at a blistering pace of .688. Sarah Blomgren didn’t provide much less with 10 kills at .526. Koko Atoa-Williams finished with 12. The service game was a killer in the opening set. Wofford had six service errors, helping South Carolina pull away. Three of them came as part of a 10-5 run for the Gamecocks, pushing their lead to 15-10. Wofford responded by scoring three straight and a Densford kill helped get the Terriers within three at 17-14. That was as close as it got as South Carolina scored four of the next five and took the opener by six. The momentum from the first set carried heavily into the second. With just 16 points played, Coach Roos was forced to burn both of her timeouts with her team trailing 12-4. It did little to stop the wave of momentum from as South Carolina ended an 8-0 run ahead 17-4. Wofford played the Gamecocks 10-8 the rest of the way, but it was too much to overcome. Wofford caught its breath and played a very competitive third set. There were 11 ties before South Carolina used a 7-1 spurt to jump in front 21-15. The Terriers got three more kills out of Densford before all was said and done, but Atoa-Williams was able to close it out in three for the host Gamecocks.

Notes:- It was the first ever meeting between Wofford and South Carolina.- Darian Dozier’s .688 attack pct. was the highest of the season by a Terrier opponent (min. 10 kills).

Down two sets on the road against USC Upstate, Wofford rallied to take sets three and four and force a fifth set in front of an animated crowd Tuesday night at the Hodge Center. After going down 13-10 in the race to 15, Wofford rolled off four straight points to go up 14-13, earning its first chance at completing its second two-set comeback in a week. However, Upstate extended the set on a Callie Yeargin kill and the two sides went toe to toe over the next several points. Both teams were presented with four opportunities to win the match. In the end, it was USC Upstate that wound up on top, scor-ing the final three points of the night to stall the Wofford rally.

“In a fifth set, against a good team, it can go either way,” said head coach Lynze Roos. “I’m proud that we battled back. Of course, we wanted to leave with the win, but I’m glad that we showed some character and some fight. Three Terriers reached double figures in the kill column, led by a season-high 16 from sophomore Bella Santoro. The Greer native also put together her team-leading sixth double-double thanks to a career performance on defense, recording 26 digs to best her previ-ous high of 18 as a freshman. Senior libero Jessica Graham tallied a season-high 30 digs. Fresh-man middle Colleen Reilly registered her first collegiate double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs, also posting seven blocks to come up three shy of a triple-double. Despite outblocking the Spartans 13-3, Wofford could not come away with the win. USC Upstate negated the advantage by outhit-ting the Terriers .162 to .139, posting 12 more kills and four more aces. The Spartans had nine aces on the night, marking the most the Terriers have allowed since late August.

Notes:- Bella Santoro had a career-high 26 digs.- Colleen Reilly recorded her first collegiate double-double- Jessica Graham recorded a season-high 30 digs, her most in a match since last year against USC Upstate.- Wofford fell to 10-29 in the all-time series vs. USC Upstate, but leads the series 6-3 in the Division I era.

Wofford at Western CarolinaFriday, Sept. 25 - Ramsey Center - Cullowhee, N.C.

After enduring an 11-0 Western Carolina run and saving triple-match point in the fourth set, Wofford took an 8-2 lead in a fifth set on the road and seemed poised to win its SoCon opener. It was not to be. Western Carolina came storming back to even the tiebreak at 10, took a 13-11 lead and held off the Terriers in a scramble on the final point Friday evening at the Ramsey Center. “We just need to clean up our mistakes and learn how to close out matches,” said head coach Lynze Roos. “Again, I love the fight to come back after digging ourselves in a hole, but we shouldn’t be putting ourselves down there in the first place. It played out very similarly to Tuesday, and we could have come away with two wins.” Tuesday, Wofford went down two sets at USC Upstate before com-ing back to force a fifth set. The Terriers earned match point four times, but were unable to close it out and were outlasted 22-20. Friday’s loss drops Wofford to 7-9 overall and 0-1 to start Southern Conference play. Meanwhile, Western Carolina improved to 7-10, beginning conference play in the win column at 1-0. The Terriers were led on the attack by sophomores Bella Santoro, Danni Densford and Alex Holland. Santoro put down a team-high 17 kills and completed a double-double with 18 digs. Densford and Holland were more efficient in their swings, hitting .306 and .278 with 14 and 15 kills, respectively. Another sophomore, Molly Mayo, completed a double-double, going for a match-high 55 assists with 13 digs. On defense, Jessica Graham followed up a 30-dig match in Tues-day’s five-setter at USC Upstate with another 30-dig performance. The senior libero now has 1,585 digs in her career, sitting just 46 back of the program’s all-time record. Freshman Colleen Reilly led the block with a match-high six rejections.

Notes:- It was the third time in the last four meetings that Wofford and Western Carolina went to five sets.- Jessica Graham had 30 digs for the second consecutive match, tying her season-high.- Bella Santoro (7) and Molly Mayo (6) posted double-doubles.- Danni Densford tied a career-high with 14 kills.

Match 17Wofford vs. Chattanooga

Tuesday, Sept. 29 - Benjamin Johnson Arena - Spartanburg, S.C.

Wofford ell in three sets in its home opener against Chattanooga Tuesday night at Benjamin Johnson Arena. The Mocs outlasted the Terriers through 13 ties and three lead changes to win the opening set. The second and third were more one-sided. Chattanooga went up 11-5 to cruise through the second and used a 7-3 run to create separation in the third. Chattanooga maintained its undefeated start in SoCon play, while Wofford dropped its second straight to begin the conference season. “I thought we gave a good effort against a very strong Chattanooga team,” said head coach Lynze Roos, who made her home debut in Tuesday night’s contest. “The first set could have gone either way and we were running some good offense. Coach Filar has a good team and credit to them for playing so well on the road.” Wofford’s attack generated a .325 hitting percentage in the opening set, but Chattanooga answered at .381 with 19 kills to edge it out. The score was tied at 22 before back-to-back kills by Briana Reed and Lauren Gainer gave the Mocs set point. Wofford called time and was able to save the first on a kill from Danni Densford, but Allie Davenport put it away for UTC with her fourth kill of the set. Davenport finished the night with a .417 attack percentage and 11 kills. Reed was just as punishing, slamming a match-high 15 kills with just one attack error to finish the night at .359. The two combined for 26 of Chattanooga’s 43 kills. Sophomore Alex Holland led the Terrier offense with a team-high nine kills (.200). Sophomores Bella Santoro and Danni Densford registered eight and seven, respectively, while sophomore Molly Mayo recorded a double-double of 33 assists and 10 digs. Senior Jessica Graham led the Terriers with 15 digs, becoming the second Terrier in history to reach the 1,600-dig plateau. She is 31 digs shy of the school record of 1,631 held by 2013 graduate Reagan Styles.

Notes:- Jessica Graham became the second Terrier in program history to record 1,600 career digs.- Molly Mayo registered her seventh double-double of the year.- Wofford fell to 10-11 in home openers in the NCAA Div. I era.

head coach lynze rooS

Lynze Roos was named the seventh head coach of the Wofford volleyball program on July 8, 2015. Roos has spent the last eight seasons as the head coach at Lynn University.

“We are excited to have Lynze joining the Wofford family as head coach of our volleyball program,” said Director of Athletics Richard Johnson. “She is such a great fit for our department and we look forward to having her on the court in a few weeks”

Roos left Lynn University as the most accom-plished and winningest coach in program history. Prior to her arrival, Lynn’s volleyball program had won only 89 games in 10 years with only one win-ning season. Roos transformed the program and left with a 164-119 overall mark, 66-78 record in Sun-shine State Conference play, eight winning seasons and four NCAA Tournament appearances in nine years.

Lynn had its breakout season in 2007, Roos’ sec-ond year on the job. The Fighting Knights reached the postseason for the first time in program history, tying what was then the program record with 22 wins. Lynn advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA South Region Tournament with a 3-1 victory over Eckerd before falling 3-2 to top-seeded and second-ranked defending national champions, Tampa, in five sets.

The Blue & White would go on to claim 20 wins in each of the next three seasons while making trips to the NCAA Tournament along the way. Roos’ 2008 squad set a record for wins in a season with 24 while the 2010 team, the last to qualify for the postseason, tallied a program-best 11 victories in SSC competi-tion. Roos also owns 66 of the school’s 81 conference wins.

Roos has also demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence. For eight straight seasons, the Lynn volleyball team earned American Volley-ball Coaches Association Team Academic Award. In 2013-14, the volleyball team posted the highest team GPA out of Lynn’s 14 athletic teams with a 3.81 cumulative grade point average.

Coach Roos’ volleyball team won the coveted Knight’s Cup five consecutive years. The Knights Cup competition at Lynn encourages the achieve-ment of academic excellence, promotes personal-ized choices for supplementing the student-athlete’s educational background, provides opportunities for personal development, involves the student-athlete as a role-model/leader, supports the team concept and encourages student-athletes to support fellow student-athletes. At the end of the academic year, the team that has earned the most points is named the Knights Cup Champion.

Prior to Lynn, Roos served as the assistant vol-leyball coach on the staff of fellow Southern Con-

ference member Samford University for two years. She arrived at Samford after a three-year tenure with Pike High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. At Pike, she was the head volleyball coach and led her team to three top-four finishes in the conference, as well as a sectional final. She also worked with the Pike Youth League, the Pike Fire Volleyball Club, and the Indy Select Volleyball Club from 2001-04 and started the Central Indiana Summer Volleyball League for high school programs.

As a collegian, Roos was an exemplary student-athlete. While an undergraduate student at But-ler University, she was named to the dean’s list for eight consecutive semesters, was a four-time NCAA District 12 All-Academic Team member and was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Board. Roos was named the 2001 Future Educator of the Year by the Butler Secondary Education Department and was selected as one of Butler’s Top 100 Seniors.

On the court, Roos was equally impressive. As a freshman, Roos was named to the Midwestern Col-legiate Conference All-Newcomer Team. She was also named a second-team all-conference performer in 1998 and 2000 and was picked to the MCC All-Tournament Team in 2000. She ended her playing career in Butler’s top 10 in five categories and was named to Butler’s Top 25 players in the first 25 years of the program.

Roos graduated from Butler University in 2001 as a double-major in English and education. She mar-ried Matt Roos on December 18, 2004. The couple has two children, a son, Loren, and a daughter, Lyle.
