PENTECOST SUNDAY MAY 15, 2016

From the Pastor:As Pope Benedict XVI reminded us, “On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended with power upon the Apostles; thus began the mission of the Church in the world.” The Bible and the Fathers of the Church referred to the Holy Spirit as “The Gift of God.” Whenever God gives us a gift, we have a corresponding task or responsibility. If we have received the gift of the Holy Spirit, then we have the responsibility to be part of the Church’s mission in the world. Different members of the Church will participate in the mission in different ways, but everyone should participate with the same fervor, or perhaps I should say “fire.”

The Missionary Servants of the Word, Luis, Cesar, and Jose, have given a fine example of fiery fervor since arriving in Marion on April 27. Most recently they organized a novena of prayer meetings in preparation for this Sunday’s feast of Pentecost. They have also visited numerous families as well as one retirement community.

If you have already made your pledge to this year’s BAA, thank you very much! If you have not yet done so, you know what to do...

This Friday at 6:00 p.m. we will have our first meeting of a new group for young people up to grade 8 who are, or want to be, altar servers. The group is called MASS, which stands for “Marion Altar Servers Society.” More details may be found elsewhere in this bulletin.

Thank you for reading this and don’t forget to send in your BAA envelope today. Unless you have already done so, in which case you have our gratitude.

Yours in Christ, Fr. Thomas Buffer

CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSIONSunday, May 29, 2016

“Come Walk the Streets with the Lord Jesus”~~~~~~~

On Sunday, May 29, a short Eucharistic procession will begin immediately after

11:00 a.m. Mass. The procession will close with Benediction, celebrated on the front steps of the church. All parish groups are invited to walk in the procession as a group, carrying a banner or poster. Show your deep love and respect for Jesus’ Real Presence in the Eucharist. Come join us as we sing and praise our Lord and celebrate His great gift to us.

A Spiritual Bouquet toSend a Kid to Camp

Parish support is needed to send 10 of our young people to Catholic Youth Summer Camp (CYSC) this year. Now in its 16th year, CYSC is a weeklong residential camp for students entering grades 6-12. This High Adventure camp leads to a High Adventure Faith and, is

according to our teens who have attended in the past, both a fun and life-changing experience. It is, however, expensive – $500.00 per camper.

In an effort to raise funds for our group, the teens themselves are offering a Spiritual Bouquet for your support. On the weekend of May 14/15, the teens will have a donation board in the main vestibule of the church. On it are tags – shaped like flowers – numbered 1 through 75. To support our teens, select a flower (or flowers) at the level of donation you would like to make. For example, if you would like to donate $20.00, you would purchase the #20 tag. Or, you can purchase a combination, such as the #9 and the #11. Then, the teens will ask you to write your prayer request(s) on the back of the tag and place it in the collection vase. The teens will offer your prayer intentions during Adoration prior to going to camp. And, please feel free to ask any of the teens present about how important CYSC is to them.

If all the tags are sponsored by parishioner support, the group will raise $2,850.00 in one weekend, which will make the camp experience affordable for our families. Please prayerfully consider how you might support our teens in this total immersion, Catholic experience.

CYSC, located on a 471-acre property in Centerburg, Ohio, offers 8 weeklong sessions for both middle and high school students and is already sold out for the 2016 season. To learn more about the camp, visit CYSC.com.

Our teens who are registered to attend CYSC include: Bridget Dutton; Bridget and Colin Murphy; Chris Snider; Catherine, Gemma, and Matthew Starrs; Clare Stevenson; and, Seth and Trent Reece.

CRS RESPONSE TO EARTHQUAKE IN ECUADOROn April 16, 2016, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Ecuador. One of the most powerful in Latin America over the last two decades, it is known to have killed over 400 people with the toll still rising. Hundreds more have been injured, and there are reports of widespread damage to buildings, roads and other infrastructure. Given the widespread impact, Catholic Relief Services is coordinating with other humanitarian organizations and our partners to determine priorities. Water, food and emergency shelter will be the biggest needs in the coming days. Donations may be made directly to CRS on their website (http://www.crs.org/stories/emergency-response). For more information, contact Erin Cordle, diocesan CRS director, at 614-241-2540, [email protected], or [email protected].

“Emmanuel – Be His Hope to Others – God with Us”We are happy to report that the good people of this parish are answering the call in support of the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. This is most encouraging, but we have a long way to go to realize 100% participation from our parishioners. If you have not yet had the opportunity to make a pledge, please place your pledge card in the collection basket during Mass. The needs of our diocese and individual parishes are great and only by the support of the faithful can the various ministries and programs remain available to so many of us. This year our parish goal is $75,659.62 and any amount generated over that goal will be returned to our parish. No gift is too small.

“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” – Mother Teresa
