An overview of 4 of the most common types of Lithium chemistry showchosen Lithium Iron Phosphate outperforms the other kind of chemistry in the areas most applicable to a home system. The lifespan of the LFP chemistry is longer than the competing chemistries and this is backed up by Alpha with a guaranteed performance of 80% of original capacity for 10 years. The expected lifetime however is 20 years. Housing - Metal Can Alpha uses Metal Can housing for our Lithium series. This gives the most physical protection by having a millimetre thick casing on each cell. Within the realm of even highly abnormal physical abuse the metal withstands it. The legal documents of MSDS Sheets state: Risk of exposure occurs only, if the battery is mechanically or electrically abused

The protection metal cans provide and their lifetime is highly superior to rivals. The standard for other manufactures are 3 kinds: - Small cylinder: much like the AA battery, many of these are put together to store. This has a low cost and a low lifetime. The main drawback is that it has many many cylinders, if one fails the whole battery fails. - Polymer Pouches are cheap and flexible but during the manufacturing process they have to be degasses. This is not always done correctly and this can cause them to swell up like a balloon with harmful consequences. - Plastic cells, if subject to high impact just like polymer pouches can burst and expose Lithium to the atmosphere. Software Protection - First Level Each module in Alpha Systems comes with a battery management system (BMS). This is t he front line software defence against electrical abuse. A display shows the state of charge of each module and the BMS is what commands this. The BMS stops the battery from over or undercha rging. With the chemistry of LFP both under and overcharging will

balance charges across the system to improve harmonization and make sure stress is balanced between all three. Software Protection - Second Level Alpha energy management system (EMS). The EMS controls the whole system as the central control. The EMS decides with its different programmable logics for UPS or Self Consumption. This protects the batteries because the software will not allow overcharging rather when the load is fully supplied and the batteries are charged it will export all surplus electricity to the Grid.
