CHRISTMAS TREE SALE BENEFITS SCOUTS DURHAM | Durham Boy Scout Troop 154 will be selling Christmas trees the week- ends of December 10-11 and 17-18 (while sup- plies last) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Durham Marketplace Shopping Center, located on Mill Road. The Scout’s hand-selected trees, transported from New Hampshire’s Conley Christmas Tree Farm by LandCare Associates of Madbury, have become a tradition for many area families for more than 25 years. Their support is greatly appreciated by the Scouts, and is the cornerstone of the yearly success of this fundraiser. Proceeds raised at the Christmas tree sale will be used to fund camp scholarships, community service pro- jects, training, camping equipment and other Scouting program activities. BELL CENTER PRESENTS ‘AMAHLDOVER | The Bell Center for the Arts, located at 47 Fourth Street in Dover, will pre- sent Gian Carlo Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” a holiday opera sung in Eng- lish, on December 10-11 and 17-18. Show- times are on Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. “Amahl and the Night Vis- itors “ is the story of a young crippled boy and a visit from the three wise men on their way following the Star of Bethlehem.     Exeter post office hasannounced that the 33rdseason of the “Letters toSanta” program has begun,with assistance from a vari-ety of volunteer “elves”assisting in this free pro-gram. Children are invitedto write their own letter ordraw their own picture forSanta (little ones may dic-tate a letter to a parent, asthe point is to have the childparticipate; please, no class-rooms, groups, or multiplefamily letters, and nonefrom pets; each childdeserves Santa’s full atten-tion).     ation is offering a Youth Ski/Snowboard program for stu-dents ages 6 and up at Brad-ford Ski Area in Bradford,Massachusetts.     DOG OBEDIENCE CLASSThe most important

    thing a dog owner can do fortheir pet is to give it obedi-ence training. Not only doesthis training help the dog tounderstand his or her placein the family structure, but itbuilds the foundation forsolving future behaviorproblems. The dog learns torespect and trust the owneras a leader and a friend.Instructor Karen GordonBetournay, a certified petdog trainer with an exten-sive background in obedi-ence instruction and privateconsultations, will be hold-ing a series of classes in2006. Training for puppies18 weeks and under will beoffered Saturday, January 21through March 4 from 10-11a.m.; training for graduatesof puppy or adult class willbe held Saturday, January 28through March 11 from 11:30a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (no classesFebruary 25).
