Exeter post office hasannounced that the 33rdseason of the “Letters toSanta” program has begun,with assistance from a vari-ety of volunteer “elves”assisting in this free pro-gram. Children are invitedto write their own letter ordraw their own picture forSanta (little ones may dic-tate a letter to a parent, asthe point is to have the childparticipate; please, no class-rooms, groups, or multiplefamily letters, and nonefrom pets; each childdeserves Santa’s full atten-tion). Adults should helpthe child to put their name,age, and full return addresson the letter and envelopeand send it before the finaldate of Friday, December 16to Santa Claus, c/o ExeterPost Office, 34 Front St.,Exeter, NH 03833. Lettersmay also be hand-carried tothe Exeter Post Office bySaturday, December 17.Santa will send a personal-ized letter back, direct fromthe North Pole.

ation is offering a Youth Ski/Snowboard program for stu-dents ages 6 and up at Brad-ford Ski Area in Bradford,Massachusetts. Lessons forbeginner, novice, intermedi-ate and advanced skiers areheld on Saturday afternoonsfor six weeks, from January7 through February 11, from12-4:30 p.m. In addition tolift tickets and lessons, par-ticipants can also rent equip-ment. DOG OBEDIENCE CLASSThe most important

thing a dog owner can do fortheir pet is to give it obedi-ence training. Not only doesthis training help the dog tounderstand his or her placein the family structure, but itbuilds the foundation forsolving future behaviorproblems. The dog learns torespect and trust the owneras a leader and a friend.Instructor Karen GordonBetournay, a certified petdog trainer with an exten-sive background in obedi-ence instruction and privateconsultations, will be hold-ing a series of classes in2006. Training for puppies18 weeks and under will beoffered Saturday, January 21through March 4 from 10-11a.m.; training for graduatesof puppy or adult class willbe held Saturday, January 28through March 11 from 11:30a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (no classesFebruary 25). Cost for theprogram is $80 for residentsand $85 for non-residents.

Exeter Rec presents a six-week session of MagicalChild Theatre Arts withHillary Crowley. The theatrearts program has been quitepopular with Exeter youth,with many returning stu-dents. Boys and girls ages 5-14 who have never done soare invited to participate.This program offers excel-lent means for children toexplore their creativity whilebuilding concentration, con-fidence and teamwork.Classes meet at the rec cen-ter at 32 Court Street onMondays, now throughDecember 19, from 3:30-5p.m. for ages 5-6 and from5:30-7 p.m. for ages 7-9 p.m.;and on Thursdays, nowthrough December 22, from3:30-5 p.m. for ages 10-11and from 5:30-7 p.m. forages 12-14. PICK-UP BASKETBALLThis program, open to

students in grades 7-8, runsDecember 5 through Febru-ary 27, Monday nights from6:30-8 p.m. at the highschool annex gym. The costsfor the program are $15 forExeter residents and $30 fornon-residents. Registrationsare taken on an on-goingbasis until a maximum of 40participants is reached. Vol-unteers are needed to super-vise the games.
