This weekend we mark the 44th anniversary of Roe vs.

Wade which legalized abor!on in 1973. In that !me 55

million babies have been aborted in the United States,

3,900 babies are aborted everyday. Three abor!ons oc-

cur every minute. For every 1,000 live births, there are

321 abor!ons. This is a tragedy for all of mankind, espe-

cially America! The following are some life saving phone

Souper Bowl of Caring works to mobilize those looking to fight hunger and poverty in their own communities around the time of the Super Bowl football game. In the weeks leading up to or on Super Bowl Sunday, young people take up a collection (many use a soup pot), asking for one dollar or one item of food for people in need. They give 100% of their donation directly to the local hunger-relief charity of their choice. Started by a youth group in 1990, Souper Bowl of Caring has since grown all over the world, collecting more than $100 million donated back into their own community. In the past 4 years St. Charles-St. Ann has raised over $4,200.00

The Church Celebrates Special Days and Seasons

The Church has special days and seasons all year long. On these days we celebrate what we believe. Every year we remember and celebrate the important times and events in

Jesus’ Life.

The Seasons are: Advent, Christmas, Ordinary Time, Lent, Easter, Easter Season, and Ordinary Time.

Holy Days of Obligation are the most important feast days. They are the principal litur-gical feasts that honor the mysteries of the Lord, the Virgin Mary and the saints.

Advent

The Church year begins with Advent. The season of Advent lasts about four weeks. During Advent we get ready for Christmas. We pray and wait for Jesus to come more and more into our world. We prepare our hearts so Jesus can come into our own lives.

We light candles on an Advent wreath to show we are waiting for Jesus, the light of the world. Advent season begins on the first Sunday of Advent

(late November/early December) and concludes on December 24th.

Christmas

Christmas season is the joyful celebration of the incarnation, when the divine Son of God took on the flesh of our humanity. We celebrate the birth of Jesus, God’s greatest gift.

Christmas season begins with the Vigil Mass of Christmas Eve on December 24th. It concludes with the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, usually the Sunday after Epiphany.

The Christmas season includes The Feast of the Holy Family; The Feast of Mary on January 1; and the Feast of Epiphany, 12 days after Christmas (January 6). Epiphany celebrates the coming of the wise men to worship Jesus, the newborn King. Jesus was revealed as the Savior of all people.

Parish Registration: Welcome to all new

families and individuals. Please register as

soon as possible. Registration forms and a

welcome packet are available in the church

office

Membership is a condition for the reception

of the sacraments of baptism, reconciliation,

first Eucharist, confirmation and marriage.

Registration is also required before the

parish can issue a sponsorship certificate for

those asked to be sacramental sponsors. You

must be a registered, contributing member

for at least three months before a certificate

is provided.

Attendance at Mass is the most meaningful

way we model and live our Catholic faith.
