Annual newsletter! We whole heartedly thank one and all for your

collaboration and support in serving the needy and the people with

special needs in our society. This newsletter chronicles the activities of

year 2016-17.

We thank our generous and kind-hearted donors, members, volunteers

and well wishers everywhere and on the social networking websites and

also our affiliated organizations for their tremendous support. Your act of

kindness has made a positive change to the society and we take pride in

being the enablers for the same!

Year at a glance

As yet another eventful year comes to an end, Team Nanmai would like to lookback and provide an account of the goodwill activities performed throughoutthe year.

The year was marked by key activities like Blood donation, Notebook anddictionary distribution, Community support, Home Support and Communitydevelopment , Sapling Planting, Book bank services, Library setup andOperations, Uniform distribution, Medical Camps, Leprosy patient support andPersonality Development Programs.

Blood Donation Camp

Team Nanmai’s flagship event, the annual blood donation camp saw a decentturn out this year as well with a donor count of 639. The 13th edition of theblood donation camp was organized at the usual location ShakespeareMatriculation School, Vadapalani on the 2nd of April 2017.

Being one of the largest blood donation camps for the government hospitals inChennai, It is heartening to have established a positive and ever increasingtrend in the number of donors.

This initiative was held to support the need of the poor patients in Govt.Hospital - Royapettah, Govt. Maternity Hospital – Egmore and Cancer Institute– Adyar.

Team Nanmai is specially indebted to all the donors and volunteers who

participated in the Annual Blood Donation camp and have made it as one of

the most successful and eventful blood donation camps in Chennai.

Year at a glance

Team Nanmai is deeply committed to providing the gift of education and achieves it by providing scholarships, stationery, books, desktops and other enablers for promoting education. The below briefly lists down the activities done towards the same.

Notebooks and Dictionary distribution

A total of 25,000 notebooks were distributed to 4000 students in 15 districts in the month of June 2016. The notebooks were distributed to 10th and 12th standard students belonging to government schools from Salem, Perambalur, Trichy, Ariyalur, Karur, Tiruppur, Erode, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Coimbatore, Vellore, Cuddalore, Thiruvannamalai, Thiruvallur and ChennaiDictionaries were distributed to 27 students in Government school in Andippatti,Chengam in the month of Jan 2017.

Desktop distribution

In today’s computer and technology driven world, organizations can greatly benefit from the use of technology to revolutionize education and Children homes are no exception. In the month of Feb 2015, Ramalinga AdigalarGurukulam, Kovilambakkam received two used desktops from TCS as part of the company’s computer donation scheme .

This activity will continue with more rigor in the future to aid more Children homes and Government schools.

Lab Apparatus

Govt. School in Chettiapatti village of Dindigul district was upgraded to Higher secondary two years back and the school did not have the required apparatus in the Physics lab. Team Nanmai provided all the required apparatus which will be of huge help to the students appearing for XII Std board exam.

Writing kit containing a Pen, pencil and scale were provided to 85 students appearing for X Std board exam in Govt. school in Andipatti, Chengam

Student Engagement Activities

Team Nanmai in addition to the charitable acts conducts student

engagement activities. In addition to creating a platform for students to

showcase their talents, these events commemorate great leaders by being

conducted in their honor.

To commemorate Gandhi Jayanthi and Dr. Abdul Kalam birthdays, Essay,Oratory and Quiz competitions were conducted in 10 schools in Salemdistricts. Certificates and gifts were provided to 99 students who securedfirst three places in the competitions

To commemorate Mahakavi Bharathiyar birthday, Essay and Oratorycompetitions were conducted in Cuddalore district. Certificates and giftswere provided to 36 students who secured first three places in thecompetitions

Team Nanmai provided sewing machines to 23 economically challenged

widows who are the single bread winner of their families. These

beneficiaries are from Cuddalore, Chidambaram and Salem districts.

Sewing Machine Distribution

Team Nanmai initiated another new program in this financial year through which

support was provided to leprosy patients. Rice, Soap, Toothpaste and used

clothes were provided to 50 families in Solomon Nagar, Changalpet. Toothpaste,

soap and used clothes were provided to leprosy affected people in Avadi and

Chengalpet. We are planning to identify more leprosy affected patients and

provide regular support to them by providing provisions and helping their kids in

education.

Library

In its efforts to augment books for students to benefit from, Team Nanmai has

setup a mini library in Government school in Vembar,Thoothukudi in the

month of Jan 2017. Libraries will be set up in more schools in the coming

years.

Medical Camp

On 26th June 2016, a medical camp was conducted in Kalpaganur village in

Attur, Salem district. Team of General physicians, Dental, Eye and Heart

specialists from Vinayaga Mission and Dr. Pramod Roy attended to the patients.

450 patients from various villages in and around Kalpaganur were benefitted

from the camp.

On 2nd Oct 2016, a medical camp was conducted at Thiruvalluvar College of

Arts and Science in Kurinjipadi, Cuddalore Team of General physicians, Heart,

Skin, Dental and Eye specialists from Arupadai Veedu Medical College attended

to the patients. 300 patients from various villages in and around Kurinjipadi

were benefitted from the camp.

On 17th Feb 2017, a medical camp was conducted in Attur Public School in

Attur, Salem district. Team of General physicians, Dental, Eye and Heart

specialists from Vinayaga Mission attended to the patients. 250 patients from

various villages in Attur taluk were benefitted from the camp.

Tablets, eye drops, Nila Vembu (Herbal) water were provided to the

participants. Spectacles were provided to the patients who were diagnosed

with vision deficiency.

Medical Camp

Sapling Planting

In addition to rendering community support activities, Team Nanmai is also

environmentally conscious and conducts sapling planting activity every year. This

also aims at instilling environmental responsibility.

This year, Team Nanmai planted nearly 100 saplings in Govt Middle School,

Padiyanallur, Thiurvallur district on 15th August 2016.

Student Scholarship

Team Nanmai believes in and strives to provide the gift of education and in taking

steps towards that, it provides education scholarship to deserving and needy

students. Care is taken and sufficient scrutiny and research is performed to ensure

that this reaches the truly deserving and needy. Mentors are assigned to the

students to monitor the progress of their studies and guide them.

62 students benefited from this year’s scholarship program. The students belong

to the following colleges.

• Pioneer College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore

• Saraswathy College of Arts & Science, Tindivanam

• Thiruvalluvar College of Arts and Science, Cuddalore

• Aries College of Arts and Science, Cuddalore

Uniforms distribution

Team Nanmai distributed school uniforms to 800 students from various

Government schools across Tamil Nadu. Uniforms were also provided to

33 students in Ramalinga Adigalar Gurukulam, Kovilambakkam.

Uniform Distribution

Swami Vivekananda Book Bank

Swami Vivekananda Book bank was launched in January 2006 to loan books to

economically challenged students studying in Engineering colleges. Students

are identified through a well defined process which relies on identification

through word of the mouth. At the end of each semester, the students return

the books which are reused for next semester. Books are collected through

“Book Collection Drives” during which students completing their graduation

donate their used books.

For the current year, 70 students benefited from the books distribution activity

which was presided over by Mr. Ravi, Retired Branch Manager, Indian Overseas

Bank.

“We would like to sincerely thank all the donors who have donated books forour book bank and Mr. Subramanian for providing place for storing the books”

Nanmai is happy to continue providing support to the followinginstitutions for this year as well.

Children’s Day at Ramalinga Adigalar Gurukulam

We celebrated Children's day in 2016 at Ramalinga Adigalar Gurukulam,

Kovilambakkam during which we conducted games, quiz, oratory competition

and distributed gifts and dress for the students. Team Nanmai provided lunch

for the inmates of the home & overall it was a wonderful experience for kids

and the members of Team Nanmai.
