As part of the Robert Wood Johnson Health System, RWJ
Hamiltons emergency department has an established
relationship with Bristol Meyers Squibb Childrens Hospital
at
Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
As a regional resource for pediatric care, our patients have
seamless access to this higher level of care, including access
to
leading subspecialist pediatric physicians, when needed.

Smart Investing
Project Scope
RWJ Hamiltons new Pediatric Emergency Department answers
an identified community need to support families who require
immediate access to pediatric emergency care. Treating 8,000
children annually in one of the busiest emergency departments
in
the region, RWJ Hamilton is investing in this new, dedicated
location to create a family centered approach to emergency
care.
The development of this project is another step in the
continued
investment and expansion of our beautiful Hamilton campus
and
a demonstration of our commitment to our community.
RWJ Hamilton is a recipient of the 2010 and 2011 Emergency
Medicine Excellence Award from Health Grades, the nations
leading, independent source of physician information and
hospital quality ratings. The study places RWJ Hamilton inthe
top five percent of hospitals nationwide and in the top
five in New Jersey.
This project utilizes an existing asset of ground floor space
for
new pediatric treatment rooms and supporting spaces, as well
as
the addition of a new entry vestibule and new link corridor
for
patient transport from the existing emergency department.
We will design eight new pediatric treatment rooms as well as
the
required support spaces. A later phase of the project will add
a
new patient entry and a dedicated ambulance entrance, and
support spaces including waiting, registration, and an EMT
office,
and various exterior renovations.
Design Goals
RWJ Hamilton continually strives to create environm
promote family-centered care. Our interior desig
pediatric emergency department is infused with colors and
textures, safe materials, and family-c
illumination.
We have engaged the expertise of our emergency tea
us create an environment that is efficient for them to
their patients. Private rooms are generous in size, com
accommodating patients, caregivers and families
zones. Each room is furnished with a pull-down d
internet access, as well as sleeping accommoda
families to allow parents to comfortably remain with t
for the duration of their stay.
