Lastly, place the tooth part of the Super Ring with the teeth pointing downwards and then the upper closing tool part for the first pressing.

3. Press all the way until the teeth have sunk through the sail cloth and the plastic washer.

4. Switch to the upper closing tool part for the second pressing and press until the liner part has curved neatly over the teeth washer. Do not over-press the ring, it will damage the sailcloth and possibly the closing tool.

NB! Recommended patch thickness 0-2 mm when using supplied screws! The fitting is not constructed to manage the loads that can appear in a reefing point!

Mounting instruction for the Rutgerson batten fitting 1590 & 1595

General1590 and 1595 are fullbatten fittings with adjustable tension for mounting at the luff of main sails. The fittings is made to be used with M10-threaded battcars, i.e. Rutgerson’s 1530-xx-05, or 1530-xx-09. 1590 fits flat battens in sizes up to 40x6mm. The insert in 1595 allows battens with a maximum size of 25x10mm to be used. The batten is fitted into the batten pocket from the luff, which means that the batten pocket can be closed at the leech end i.e. no leech fittings is needed.

1590 is primarily intended for boats in sizes from 30’ to 50’. The fitting is made in composite plastic, which makes it light, strong and UV-resistant.

Components The fitting consists of upper part (a) cover (b) tensioner (c) (note that tensioner in 1595 looks different) tension screw (d) back plate (e) and 7 cross head screws for plastic. The shorter screw is for locking the cover.

Mounting

1. Start the mounting by removing the cover from the upper part of the fitting by pushing it backwards. The fitting is to be mounted against the luff rope or the edge of the luff. NB! The centre line of the receptacle must be the same as the centre line of the batten pocket.

2. Temporarily place the upper part and the back plate of the fitting in the location described in picture 1 (on the same side of the sail as the batten pocket). Remove the upper part and be careful not to move the backing plate. Use it as a template to punch holes for the screws with an awl. (picture 2)

3. Turn the sail and locate the back plate of the fitting into its place (on the opposite side of the sail as the batten pocket and fitted into the newly made holes). Adjust the upper part of the fitting on the other side of the sail and fasten the six screws. The shorter screw is to be fitted into the hole on the lid.

4. Turn back the sail and lift the tensioner.

5. Put the batten into the batten pocket. Place the batten in the gap of the fitting and push down the tensioner.

NB! Step 4 & 5 does not apply when mounting batten fitting 1595!

6. Push the cover into place. Fasten the shorter screws to ensure that the cover is locked.

7. Mount the battcar (g) into the threaded groove in the front part of the mounted fitting. The battcar is not to be fastened into the fitting, it must be allowed to swivel at least 90o to both port and starboard.

8. Adjust the tension of the batten with the tension screw in the aft part of the fitting. The tension can easily be seen in the slit (h) on the cover of the fitting.

NB! Make sure that no metal part of the battcar is in contact with the mast section when sailing!

To Remove Batten Sections beneath are not illustrated.

A. Unscrew anti clockwise to reduce batten tension to zero with the tension screw in the aft part of the fitting.

B. Unscrew the screw on the lid, halfway, to release the cover of the fitting.

C. Remove the lid by pushing it straight backwards, lift the tensioner (doesn’t concern the 1595) and remove the batten from the batten pocket.
