FOREWORD

The current issue of “Rural Development Statistics - 2017-18” is 29th in the series. This publication provides data on a host of parameters concerning various facets of Rural Development.

The main objective of this publication, as in the past, is to bring latest rural data related to issues on poverty, unemployment, agriculture, RD programmes, Social services and Social Consumption under one umbrella. The sources for compilation of data are mostly Census and NSSO reports, websites and annual reports of the Ministries concerned. The reference years for compilation are mostly 2016-17 and 2017-18.

In all, this issue consists of 308 tables spread over 13 sections. Besides providing description of the contents of each table, the ‘highlights’ of each section are provided briefly.

We expect that this publication would continue to be useful as a reference volume for academicians, programme implementing agencies and non-governmental agencies as well, concerned with rural development activities.

Any suggestions towards improving the quality of the publication are welcome.
