Potentate’s MessageRudy Nobleza

Meet Our Potentate Rudy Nobleza

“A New Year and a New Beginning”. Welcome to 2020, and hoping for a Blessed New Year to All, but first, I would like to extend my deepest and sincerest gratitude to God for all the blessings I have received from Him. I also would like to thank the Nobles who have reposed their trust and confidence by electing me Potentate for the ensuing Shrine year. Working together in peace and harmony, we will make great progress towards

achieving our universal aims of enlightenment, fraternal affection, charity, and philanthropy.

I wish to thank the officers and their respective ladies who have agreed to serve with me. Their hard work and dedication do them great credit. Their upright zeal and wise insights will serve as light to guide me as I prepare for the year ahead.

I would also like to thank all those outside the Craft, who have made my election possible, my family, and friends, but most especially my Lady Paulina who have supported me with love and indulgence in my pursuit of the Craft, and I cannot thank her enough for her kindness, and sacrifice in doing so.

And to the ladies, for their untiring and unselfish support, both to shrine and their respective nobles, I look forward to continued growth in the amity and concord of our shrine center.

Last but not the least, I wish to extend my gratitude to all the nobles, sisters, family, and friends who extended their generosity, aid, and assistance in the planning, preparation and execution, of installation of officers for the ensuing masonic year. It is truly an honor to be installed Potentate of one of the busiest and productive Shrine Temples in California.

2020 gives us a sense of what it implies, a clear vision, so this year my motto is “Our Children are Our Mission”.

"Within these holy bounds, revenge is unknown, and if a man fails, love leads him back to duty. Then led by friendship, he wanders, joyful and happy into a better land. Within these holy walls, where men love their fellow men, no traitor can lurk, because we forgive our enemies, and he whom such teachings do not please, does not deserve to be a man."

Yours in the Faith

Rodolfo “Rudy” F Nobleza

Rodolfo “Rudy” Nobleza has been elected to serve as the 108th Potentate of Al Bahr Shriners and has selected for his motto “Our Children are Our Mission”

Our Illustrious Sir was born in Manila, Philippines and emigrated to the United States in 1979 and has called San Diego his home since then.

Illustrious Sir Rudy began his Masonic journey in 1986 at South West Lodge #283 in National City while stationed onboard SIMA at the 32nd Street Naval Station, San Diego. He is a charter member of MW Manuel Luis Quezon Lodge #874 and a Past Master of Black Mountain Lodge #845.

The Illustrious Sir crossed the hot sands of Shrinedom in 2004, during the term of Potentate Jerry Williams. In his time in the Shrine he has been active and involved, serving as a Personal Aide, Past President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Islanders Shrine Club and is a Ritual Member of the Past Masters Shrine Club. Rudy and Paulina have always been supportive of the Units and Clubs of Al Bahr Shrine.

In ascending to the office of Potentate, he served as 2nd Ceremonial Master, Oriental Guide, High Priest & Prophet, Assistant Rabban and Chief Rabban.

A member of the Valley of San Diego Scottish Rite Bodies since 1997, he has been selected to serve as Captain of the Host, Lodge of Perfection in 2020. He is also a member of the National Sojourners, Chapter #45. In 2019 he was made an honorary member of Southern California Chapter, Order of DeMolay.

Rudy enlisted in the Navy as an Electricians Mate and was quickly promoted through the ranks and after 19 years, retired as a First-Class Petty Officer in 1997. Following his Naval career, he worked as an electrical technician in various industries and retired in May of 2019 from the Public Utilities Department, Wastewater and Treatment Disposal, completing 20 years of employment with the City of San Diego.

Our Illustrious Sir is married to his energetic wife Paulina, and they have two children, Jeremy and Toni. Jeremy works as an agent for the Federal Government, currently stationed in San Diego. Toni is a manger for a National clothing chain store, also in San Diego.

With our Potentate and First Lady Paulina eager to lead Al Bahr Shrine in 2020, we can expect an active, exciting year of events and activities, with a continuing dedication to the children in our Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Chaplain’s Message -Dave Winesett Opportunities… The New Year provides us many opportunities to do new things, improve ourselves, renew our commitments or change our views. It affords us a new baseline for reflection and self-measurement. Many of us make New Year’s resolutions for various things we would like to accomplish. The optimism expressed in our resolutions serves to motivate us to higher levels of achievement – some to be realized and perhaps some not, still giving us positive direction. Our faith in God can strengthen us as we strive to make improvements in the New Year. One Scriptural excerpt that may be interpreted in this way is from Ephesians 4:22-24, You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. What a great way to channel our thoughts and actions! Among the best opportunities that we may find are those for helping others. By keeping this in mind as we begin the New Year, we may find such opportunities with our families, friends and coworkers. We never know where these acts of assistance may lead. “Small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises.” Demosthenes (Greek orator & politician in Athens (384 BC - 322 BC.) As Shriners, every opportunity to help children get the treatment they need can only lead to immeasurable changes in their lives – and ours.

Past Masters - Abe Ravitch, President I truly appreciate the opportunity to serve as President of the Past Masters Shrine Club in 2020. I promise to do my best to follow in the tradition of our Club and to be of service to the Blue Lodges in our area and to assist the Potentate in any way he might request. The Club is planning on holding 2 socials/dinners in 2020 along with our monthly business meetings. The Club will hold its annual pancake breakfast on Sunday, February 23rd and initial details can be found elsewhere in this issue. We are always interested in recruiting new members for our Club. If you are a Past Master of any Blue Lodge, please contact us for information. As a Past Mater your knowledge and input is welcomed.

Shriners Sinaloa- Jose Alfonso Aguilar VP Shriners Sinaloa This is a new start for our shrine club, Nobles from the Club Shriners del Sur de Sinaloa (located in Mazatlán, Sinaloa) are very excited for this 2020 year! We are ready to keep helping children in the south of Sinaloa! We are very happy to introduce our club officers, Nobles José Alfonso Aguilar Calderón as President, José Alfonso Brito Peña as Vice-president, Luis Alonso Vega Sanchez as Secretary and Alfonso Andalón Alcántar as Treasurer. The last year (2019) we provided support for 93 children. In October there were 65 candidates for Shriners Hospitals. Beside that, we visited childre each week of the year at the Sinaloa Rehab Center for Special Children. Special thanks to our Illustrious Past Potentate 2019 Eugene “Gene” Yee for the support and kindness to all the Nobles from Sinaloa. We had two ceremonials, one in Mazatlán and the other one in Culiacan! Both are historic events!

Thank You- Jose Alfonso Aguilar VP Shriners Sinaloa Nobles from Al-Bahr, it is my pleasure to thank you for your support for the 2019 Shrine year in which I was part of the appointed Divan as Outer Guard. This was an extraordinary experience for me and my Lady Gladys who I will marry in February 2020. Special thanks to our Illustrious Past Potentate 2019 Eugene “Gene” Yee for the support, instruction, kindness and for the op-portunity to be part of this wonderful experience. My acknowledgment to all the Nobles from Sinaloa for being there for the children and for giving me their support in suggesting how things could be done better in a positive and constructive way. I want to thank the Past Grand Master from the Grand Lodge of Sinaloa, Noble Heriberto Sánchez-Camacho and the current Grand Master, Noble Trinidad Espinoza-Castro for their total support of the Shriners and Al-Bahr. We must be a team in order to grow. I tried to do my best service as Outer Guard and liaison in Sinaloa, solving problems from the past in order to look forward to the future. As Steve Jobs once said: "Stay hungry, stay foolish." We will be dedicated to those who are not discouraged, to those who know they can do something to improve their life or society, to those who do not lose the illusion or hunger for knowledge, to those who lose sleep thinking about what we could become and do it better than yesterday.
