Dear Fellow Members of RSYC,

When you come to the Club from this month onwards, don't be too surprised if you see substantial changes to the physical surroundings in the area where boats once occupied the old storage sheds. Since we handed over the construction site to the main contractor on 14 April 2011, the demolition of the old storage structure is almost done.

From about 7 May onwards, the installation of the new steelworks would have begun. This would last till about the middle of June, followed swiftly by the installation of Lysaght materials till about our National Day in August. I mention all this, to illustrate that we are moving with deliberate speed to get one half of the multi-storeyed Dry Stack ready for the handing over by the contractor to us by August 2011, and the remaining half completed by November 2011.

Demolition of part of the structure to accommodate the new Accommodation Wing will also have been carried out by mid-May 2011, to be followed by construction work. Please refer to the schedule for the timeline on page 7. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we should see the completion of the Stacker building by November 2011 and the entire project by July 2012. During this period of construction, we seek Members' understanding and co-operation to achieve a brighter future after the completion of our project.

It has been a busy time for the RSYC Committee and the staff these past few months. Not withstanding the project work, there are many activities and events in the Club that must carry on as usual. One is the annual RSYC Regatta that is scheduled for July. And of course, all the F&B outlets will be business as usual.

I must bring to your attention that there will be two evenings when we shall have “Members' Nite” – a chance for everyone to partake in some savoury fingers food and your favourite drinks at The Mess, and for Members to interact with the RSYC Committee and be updated. This will be on Friday 27 May and Thursday 30 June, from 7.30pm onwards, with a live band in attendance.

Finally may I urge you to attend the coming Annual General Meeting of the Club on Friday 24 June 2011. Please keep the date free to enable you to attend this AGM. I look forward to seeing you all at the Club.

FROM THE EDITOR

Several exciting events are happening in Singapore this merry month of May. First, there is the annual Boat Asia – this continent's leading boating and luxury lifestyle event – from 12 to 15 May 2011 at the Marina @ Keppel Bay and The Promontory @ Marina Bay. That it takes two locations to display the wide range of products is clear indication that it has grown beyond any organiser's wildest dreams. Check it out at the website www.boat-asia.com

Second, there is the inaugural Bay Challenge, the first sailing match race of its kind in the beautiful waters off Marina Bay on 14 and 15 May 2011. This regional event will see 16 teams, some coming from Australia, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand, battling head on in high performance Laser Bahias. Our very own Sea Sports Executive Fendi Ahmad will be participating.

Now, here's the most interesting part: RSYC will be there in more ways than one. Boaters signing up for Ordinary membership at the Boat Asia show will get a dry berth guaranteed, plus S$1,000 F&B or berthing credits, and a chance to win a 3D/2N stay in our Marina Lodge.

We will also have a presence at the Marina Bay Promontory area to promote club membership and our sailing/PPCDL courses. Furthermore, we are the official caterer for this year's main show at Marina at Keppel Bay. We will also be participating in Boat Asia's roadshow at Raffles Place on 9 to 11 May as well.

In this magazine, we would like to give a boost

to our young sailors by highlighting some of their achievements in competitive sailing events. Read about how Teo Wee Chin of NTU Yachting Club got hooked on sailing.

Despite a painful and unhappy start, he went on to win several gold medals, including the ISAF Youth World Championship in 2005. Now a university student at NTU, Wee Chin and a few colleagues are conducting sailing courses for students and RSYC members, besides training hard for sailing kudos.

On the recreational side, we have some members who are hooked on fishing as a hobby. If that's your thing, read about how you can get involved with the anglers, on page 27.

Or maybe you've always wanted to know how to get started in this hobby, but were too shy to ask! Well, why not take the first step now?

Finally, a word about our dinghies' move recently to the Pandan Reservoir. Two of the MOE schools – Pioneer Secondary and Kent Ridge Secondary – now have some 20 students from each school taking sailing classes there. RSYC also conducts its dinghy sailing courses at the new location where the placid waters of the Reservoir makes it ideal for novices learning to sail. So if you or your children are interested, just drop us a line.

DEVELOPMENT PROJECTHAS STARTEDFollowing the signing of the contract in early March, the long-awaited project to build the boat storage building and Accommodation Wing extension is now in full swing. The construction site was handed over to the contractor on 14 April. A detailed report on the activities around the Marine Department area is found on pages 32 and 33. Details on the timeline can be found on pages 6 and 7.

Members should take note that car parking space at the Club will be affected and parking will be limited, mostly for Members only during the coming months. Alternative parking space has been arranged with

the authorities and our neighbours in the immediate vicinity.

We seek Members cooperation and understanding and please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused.

MAHJONG ROOM GETSNEW LOCATIONAs the Mahjong Room on Level 2 is needed for work related to the construction of the Development project, all mahjong games will now be re-located to the TV Room near the entrance to the Wharf Restaurant. The screening of children's movies has been suspended for the time being.

EXCHANGE OF BURGEESRecently we had the honour to exchange club burgees with the Guilford Yacht Club of Connecticut, USA, whose Trustee and former commodore Mr Patrick Doyle visited us.

We also welcomed the visit of Mr H.D. (Heinz) Rautenberg, Honorary Director of ICOYC (International Council of Yacht Clubs) and past commodore of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club and member of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. Mr Rautenberg was on a cruise of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans and stayed at our RSYC Lodge.

WELCOME TO NEW STAFFWe want to welcome three new staff who joined us recently. Sharon Lee came on board last December as Assistant Marketing & Public Relations Manager. She comes from the hotel industry and holds an Associate degree from North Lake College in Dallas, Texas.

Joining us from February this year are Joyce Toh, our new Events Manager, and Nicole Chong, Human Resource Executive. Nicole has a background in the security industry while Joyce has 15 years experience in the club industry, handling membership and events.

COMMODORE'S DAY POSTPONEDAs there is construction activity at the Club during June this year, the traditional Commodore's Day celebration has been postponed to a later date, possibly nearer the end of the year when the boat storage building is completed.

PARTICIPATING IN BOAT ASIAOur ongoing membership drive continues with our participation in this year's Boat Asia from 12 to 15 May. Members who wish to visit the exhibition and boat show may contact our Membership Department for limited complimentary admission passes.

Work begins on construction of Boat Storage Building & Accommodation Wing ExtensionEven as we go to press, the work on the construction of the multi-storey boat storage building has started. The site was officially handed over to the main contractor on 14 April 2011, said Marina Manager Capt Robat Ahmad. So it's full steam ahead from now on. Target completion date for the building's handover is 14 November 2011. When completed, the dry stack will be able to house some 300 boats, three times our current capacity.

The Letter of Award for the construction of the Multi-Storey Dry Stack and the new accommodation wing was signed on Thursday 3 March 2011 between the Club's consultants, AWP Pte Ltd and WY Steel Construction Pte Ltd.

The signing took place at an auspicious time of 3.28pm in the Nautica Room and was attended by Commodore Tan Kay Toh, Vice Commodore Low Teo Ping, Honorary Secretary B. Balakrishnan, Treasurer Kjetil Gulliksen, Committee Member John McGugan and representatives from the Club's consultants, including Mr Edward Wong, the Club's architect and Life Member.

Marking a beginning of a new milestone for the Club, the ceremony was aptly celebrated with an impromptu bottle of champagne, which the attendees partook over the display of the scale model.

Cost of the development project is estimated at $9.0 million for both the dry stack and the extension to the Accomodation Wing. The accompanying charts show the approximate time for the construction of the two buildings, with target date for the handover of the Room Extension by July 2012.

The open seas off the Singapore Flyer and the Barrage used to be the harbour where ships from all over the world would anchor during the period prior to the 1970s. That is, before the massive land reclamation that created today's Marina Centre and Marina South. At one time, what is now the site of Marina Bay Sands, was once a half-mile strip of man-made land that served as a breakwater known to shield the ships from the rough seas. And the waters off the coastline along Collyer Quay and Raffles Quay was the popular venue of many a regatta of days gone by.

Fast forward to 2011 and you have the future of another popular sailing venue: The Marina Bay. Sanctioned by SingaporeSailing, the Bay Challenge will make its debut on 14 and 15 May 201l.

Following the success of its inaugural trial run last month (see photos on the cover and

on this page), this Match Racing League holds great promise for local and overseas sailors. The event organiser, TMX Show Productions, expects to draw large spectator crowds of 10,000 or more for the two-day event.

The competitors will be using the 16-foot Laser Bahias, a high-performance boat selected for its adaptability to high winds. About 16 teams will compete – each with a maximum of three crew members. They will be split into four groups. Each match will see two teams compete against one another in a series of races lasting about 12 minutes per race. The round-robin and knock-out formats (best of three rounds) are designed to make the event more spectator-friendly.

According to one press report, the idea started with a chance conversation last September between RSYC member Mr Herman Ho and Dr Ben Tan, president of Singapore Sailing Federation. Mr Ho is the

managing director of TMX Show Productions, organisers of the annual Boat Asia exhibition that is being held this year from 12 to 15 May. Boat Asia is the region's largest and longest-running boat show.

At time of writing, 16 teams including some from Bali, Phuket and Selangor having indicated their interest, in addition to those from the Singapore Management University, Singapore Polytechnic and Changi Sailing Club.

SingaporeSailing has welcomed the latest addition to the sailing calendar. Said its CEO, Mr Tan Wearn Haw: “Our role is to inject vibrancy into the sailing scene and grow the sport. So we are happy to sanction the upcoming Bay Challenge and excited to grow it as a key sailing event for Singapore and the region.”

RSYC REGATTA 2011

As reported previously, this year's RSYC Regatta is pushing ahead with two new features: (1) Beach catamarans will be welcome, and (2) Sailability Singapore will be running special races of their own for sailors with physical handicaps or disabilities. Mr Foo Say Juan and his team from Sailability are now mapping out the special location and looking into the details prior to making the official announcements closer to the event dates in July. Meanwhile, the main Regatta organisers have finalised the

race officials which will receive a great helping hand from some top young sailors from the Nanyang Technological University Yachting Club, including its president and champion sailor Teo Wee Chin. A profile on Wee Chin can be found on page 31. RSYC's Sea Sports Executive Fendi Ahmad, himself a keen and active sailor, is assisting old hand Capt Robat in the preparations, under the overall chairmanship of Rear Commodore Karl Nilssen. RSYC sailing stalwarts Neo Wee Sim, Chris Nunns, Glen O'Grady and Kevin Lim make up the rest of

the Regatta Committee. We do invite interested sailors from all clubs in Singapore and the region to join us in our annual festivities which are well known for the warmth and camaraderie, especially at the prize giving and closing dinner. Recent RSYC RegattasEditor's Note: In the January/February 2011 magazine, we traced the first five years of the current series of RSYC Regattas, from 2000 to 2004. This is the concluding part of the 2-part report.

2005 REGATTAA report by a regatta participant in the July/August 2005 magazine called the 2005 Regatta a “huge success”. A record 33 boats participated in the three-day event, on 17, 23 and 24 July. The passage race was from Raffles Reserve anchorage around Gusong beacon and back up the Jong Fairway to the Club. In the overall results, “Foxy Lady” took the IRC A title, while “Teko” won in IRC B and “Juno” in IRC C. “Burragah II” took the PY title. The organizing committee was headed by Kent Goeking, chairman of the Sailing Sub-Committee.

2006 REGATTAThere were 25 boats in this 7th annual Regatta, held on 16, 22 and 23 July. Surprisingly, the results in the three IRC categories were the same as in the previous year, with “Foxy Lady”, “Teko” and “Juno” taking the top honours. Their skippers were Bill Bremner, Robert Howison and Tim Tan respectively. “Sofa So Good” helmed by John Ramsden won in the PY class. The organizing committee was chaired by Keith Dunn.

2007 REGATTAA respectable 23 boats took part in the 8th annual event held on 28-29 July and 4 August 2007. This year saw a new champion in the IRC A class when “Panic!” helmed by Jeff Davison, toppled the winner of the previous three years,“Foxy Lady III”. In the IRC B category, Renfred Tay's “SMUve” displayed consistent tenacity on the waters off southern Singapore by registering five first place finishes and one second place. Hellmut Schutte's “Aquavit IV” took second overall while Kent Goeking's “Solarmax” finished third.

The PY class was an interesting match race

between Chris Nunn's “Velera Linda” and Kevin Lim's “Road Runner Two”, with the former winning all but one of the six races. The One Design category saw “Juno”, helmed by Tim Tan, making a remarkable clean sweep of all its six races, beating seven other teams. Keith Dunn again chaired the organizing committee.

2008 REGATTAIn a break from the traditional format, the 2008 Regatta revived the once popular Round-the-Island Race (RIR) and introduced a passage race to Tioman in this year's event which saw only 13 boats participating. The tough race format was made possible only with the fine assistance and cooperation given by several other clubs: Raffles Marina, One Degree 15, SAF Yacht Club and Changi Sailing Club.

On 12 July the RIR challenge started from the waters off Raffles Marina and all the boats had to clear three gates and finish off at Changi Sailing Club. Sunday 13 July was a pursuit race back from CSC to the Marina Barrage. The race to Tioman took off on the afternoon of 18 July and continued non-stop for the next 20 hours. The overall winner was “Happy Endings” helmed by Jonathan Mahony. Keith Dunn was again the chairman of the organizing committee.

2009 & 2010 REGATTASIn the last two years, the RSYC Regatta returned to the tried and tested format in the waters off southern Singapore. 17 boats took part in 2009 and 18 in 2010. The winners in 2009 were “Panic!” in the ‘A' class, “SMUmad” in ‘B' and “Velera Linda” in PY, helmed by Jeff Davison, Christopher Lim and Chris Nunns respectively. Neo Wee Sim chaird the organizing committee.

The 2010 Regatta saw some new winners emerge. IRC A was won by Windsikher (Sarab Jeet Singh) and ‘B' class was won by Shoon Fung Too (Gordon Maxted). In the PY class, “Todak 2” skippered by Leslie Fung was victorious, and the J24 title went to Vladimir Borstnar's “Angel”. Karl Nilssen chaired the organizing committee.

What's New in F&B Dear Members,

As we progress towards the Club development plans, we are pleased to inform you that all Food & Beverage outlets will continue to operate as normal.

We have lined up for you some interesting promotions for the months of May and June. Please do give it a try when you're in the Club.

Living on an island city such as Singapore means being surrounded by vast, beautiful seas teeming with life. The easily accessible waters, in addition to our nation's history of having started out as a humble fishing village, have made fishing the natural choice for being one of Singapore's favourite pastimes. The passion for angling has lived on through the generations by being passed on from father to son and sometimes even to daughters or wives.

Many avid fishermen pick up the hobby at a young age, having been introduced by their parents, relatives, or friends. Angling provides children with a chance to have some fun in the sun in the great outdoors, a change from their usual indoor activities such as playing computer games and watching television shows.

In a world where increasing value is put on immediacy and haste, teaching children to wait for a catch will show them the merits of patience and persistence. As a group activity, fishing can encourage sportsmanship, building character and developing social skills.

For adults, fishing is a great stress reliever. Sitting out on a tranquil fishing jetty listening to the waves crashing against the shore with nothing but your fishing rod and an ice-cold drink in hand, it is easy to leave the stresses of work and life far behind. Deep-sea fishing is an even more immersive experience- out in the sun and the deep blue sea, you will realize the true beauty and serenity nature can provide as your boat rocks you gently into a blissful stupor to the soundtrack of waves lapping steadily against the side of your boat. Out in the midst of the vast and powerful ocean, your troubles seem to shrink into insignificance as you are reminded of nature's great scale.

Fishing can also be fun for the whole family, providing an opportunity for parents to spend some quality time with their children. A day out at sea is a good time for the family to get to know each other better, sharing both the relaxing experience and the excitement of reeling in a catch. Carried out away from the worries and distractions of hectic city life, fishing is an ideal activity for family bonding.

How To Get StartedIf you have been convinced and would like to try out fishing for the first time, the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club (RSYC) is a great place to start as it is conveniently situated and offers easy access to Singapore's Southern Islands and Indonesia's Riau Archipelago, both choice boating destinations. All you need to do is grab some friends – or “fishing kakis”, get a boat, and you're ready to go.

Some favourite fishing spots are the Southern Islands – including St. John's Island, Sisters' islands, Lazarus Island, and Kusu Island. Other popular spots are the Sudong, Pawai, and Senang Islands, plus the waters near the Tuas reclamation area. These spots are all less than 60 minutes away steaming from RSYC.

If you live on the East Coast, some fishing spots nearer to you include Changi and Pulau Ubin.

If the sea is not your thing, you can also try out fishing at the Pandan and MacRitchie Reservoirs or Jurong Lake, which are all open to fishing at designated spots. Fishing ponds such as the one at Pasir Ris Park are also good places to start.

For equipment, head to a fishing tackle shop to get your rods and reels. E-waves Fishbyte is an ideal choice for this as it is located close to RSYC and stocks a large range of fishing equipment. We also have boats available for rental at a fee, complete with knowledgeable captains to help you navigate the seas. If you would like to know more about fishing techniques, E-waves Fishbyte also regularly organizes workshops to provide you with a chance to learn from the experts. There are plans to

organize fishing workshops in the vicinity of RSYC for members who are interested in taking up fishing as hobby. In addition to this, we also frequently organize events such as fishing competitions to add an extra element of fun to the hobby. Our Deep Sea Fishing Competition 2009, for example, was organized to great success in co-operation with RSYC.

Practice Responsible FishingTo ensure that your hobby does not harm the environment, we recommend taking care to fish sustainably. To make sure that the population of fish is not excessively depleted, cultivate the habit of practicing catch and release, where captured fish is unhooked returned to the water without injury. This is especially important when fishing in reservoirs or ponds, where the delicately balanced eco-system must not be disrupted.

With all the benefits that come with angling, be it bonding time with your family and friends or moments of peace and relaxation, actually reeling a fish becomes not the primary aim but merely a bonus to your enjoyment.

Staff Dinner & Dance 2011

Mad Hatters' Party

Mad Hatters' Party – that was the theme for this year's Staff Dinner & Dance. On Tuesday, 19 April, the staff, all dressed in their party attire and donning fanciful hats, headed for the Nautica Ballroom, looking for a good time! And indeed, it was a night of fun and laughter!

No doubt, RSYC staff has talent! Yaacob and Veloo entertained the crowd with their solo performances while Kanan and Yusuf wowed everyone with their high-energy dance movements, complete with an impromptu accompaniment by Suresh.

Fendi Ahmad from Sea Sports serenaded the crowd with his self-composed song “You Make Me” and eventually walked away as the winner of the “Staff Got Talent” segment.

Next was comedian, Mustafa who teased the crowd with his jokes and even sang a love song to one of our Long Service Award recipients, Margaret Yeo, who was totally mesmerized.

Then it was time to salute the five and 10 years' long service staff for their commitment to the Club. Kudos to all 15 of them who received their awards from Commodore Tan Kay Toh. Their dedication is commendable!

The event wasn't quite complete without the crowning of Mr & Ms RSYC! The titles went to Mohd Palali and Qalbee Kamar, much to the delight of the crowd.

The night ended on a high note with the lucky draw segment. More than 30 staff walked away with prizes ranging from leather

Boston bags, shopping vouchers, home electronic products and premium wines.

Veloo was the envy of the crowd as he walked away with the top prize of a twin wine set and 2D/1N stay in a 1-bedroom Villa @ Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa worth $3000, kindly sponsored by Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa.

NTUYC teams up with RSYCLast month's magazine profiled Jovina Choo, an NTUYC member who participated in the recent 17th Singapore Straits Regatta held in January 2011.

In this article, we talked to Teo Wee Chin, 24, president of the Nanyang Technological University Yachting Club, founded in 1997. Both Wee Chin and Jovina are among a new breed of young sailors enthusiastically involved in sailing activities in Singapore. We hope to bring you more stories about our sailors in the months ahead.

Q: How and when did you get interested in sailing?Who influenced you?A: My involvement with sailing began when I was 7, under my family's influence. An uncle introduced the sport to my brothers who in turn recommended it to me. On my first day out at sea, I was smacked in the head by the boom which created a gash at the back of my head and required stitches. I wanted to quit the sport but my father strongly encouraged me to continue sailing. I decided to give it another go, and after winning my first medal in a local regatta, there was no turning back.

Q: What types of boats did you use in competitive sailing?A: I started out in the optimist and represented Singapore in the IODA Optimist World Championship in 2001, finishing in 5th place. As I grew older, I switched to the 420 and won the prestigious ISAF Youth World Championship and the SEA Games in 2005. I also sailed the keelboat, taking part in the 2006 Asian Games match racing event where I won the gold medal. Following that, I moved into the 470 where I was involved with the Olympic Circuit from 2007 to 2008. Lastly, in the 2010 Asian

Games, I sailed the hobie 16 and won the bronze medal.

Q: What was your most memorable experience?And your worst?A: The ISAF Youth World Championship was my most memorable experience. Winning this prestigious championship which was usually dominated by the French, British and Australian, was not only Singapore's first but also Asia's first. What made it even more memorable was the fact that I started the regatta terribly but persevered on to win it. I was over the line in the first race and was disqualified in the second race. After the first day of racing, I was right at the bottom of the result sheet. However, with determination and consistent performance in the next few races, I managed to climb up the score card and emerged victorious.

The worst experience of my sailing career was the 2001 SEA Games. I entered the competition as the favourite and this resulted in me being overconfident. I believed that I would win this competition easily and did not prepare sufficiently for the Games. In the end, I sailed badly and only managed a bronze medal. From this experience, I learned to always respect my competitors and to be fully prepared for any competition.

Q: What are you doing now, to prepare for your next big sailing challenge?A: I am currently sailing at One Degree 15 Marina Club with Team Rip Jaw on board the Beneteau 42.7 First Class. The team sails every weekend in preparation for the Koh Samui Regatta which will be held in Thailand from 28 May to 4 June. We have been training hard and aim to have a podium finish.

Q: Tell us something about NTUYC. A: NTUYC aims to bring in the culture of sailing into the NTU's populace by introducing and providing opportunities for members to experience sailing. With the support of RSYC, NTUYC has been actively conducting sailing courses such as Sailing X, which are open to both NTU students and RSYC members.

NTUYC also strives for high performance and our goal is a podium finish in both the Asian University Games in December 2011 as well as the World University Games in August 2012.FLASHBACK: Wee Chin (centre)

It is finally happening. The voyage has begun. To all members who had removed their cabinets, a big “thank you” from the Marine Department for your co-operation and understanding. This will definitely help the Club to minimize any delays in the construction.

To members who have yet to remove their cabinets, the department seeks your co-operation in removing your cabinets. Members are reminded not to enter the construction area but to call the Marine Department for assistance.

The area has been hoarded up and for safety reasons, no members will be allowed to enter the area. We hope to have members' utmost understanding in this matter. Please contact the Marine Department on the whereabouts of your cabinets. The department will gladly assist you.

The department will try to keep operations as usual for as long as possible and at the same time seek members' understanding and patience as the launching or recovery of boats will take slightly longer. Please be assured that the department will do its best to minimize any inconvenience.

Hosing down and flushing of engines can be carried out at the washing bay. Due to very limited space, we seek members' co-operation in doing it as soon as possible.

Relocation WorkRelocation work started on Thursday 14 April at 8.30am, when all boats and jet skis at the boatshed along the Singapore Poly Marina fencing, were

relocated to areas in front of the accommodation wing. This took almost a day while the contractor cleared other unwanted items along with the roof.

Provided on the opposite page is the plan drawing of the restricted working area. This plan will be updated in tandem with the progress of the construction.

Members who would like to be updated with the latest news of the development will be glad to know that the Management has set aside a section of the main notice board (on the wall leading to The Wharf), displaying a similar drawing together with the construction timelines.

Construction Area PlanThe demarcation lines of the construction area (in magenta ) are out of bounds to all members. Members will only be allowed at the washing bay to wash/flush boats and engines. Access to the washing area will be at the end of the washing bay indicated by the orange colored oval .

As the construction progresses, it will be more difficult as space availability and the ability to carry out daily operation will be affected substantially. Again, we seek your co-operation and understanding in this matter.

It will be advisable to inform the department early for your boat launch or recovery. A minimum of six (6) hours in advance will be greatly appreciated. Please give us this advance notification and we will strive to minimize the inconvenience.

Port And Immigration ClearancePort and Immigration Clearance is also foreseen to be affected. In order to facilitate a speedy clearance, please arrange with the Marine Department one (1) day in advance.

On-the-spot requests can be entertained but will not be given top priority, as the Immigration & Checkpoint Authority (ICA) is not within the Marine Department's control. Please also be reminded that the ICA needs to be informed of any clearance requests at least one (1) day in advance.
