" 0 INTRODUCTION
During March 1987, magnetometer and VLF surveys were carried
out on the Prospect Cove property to assist in geological mapping and
to delineate any conductive horizons.
2.0 LOCATION, ACCESS AND GRID (Figure 1)
The property consists of 30 unpatented mining claims in the
Thunder Bay Mining Division, approximately 3 km southwest of Heron
Bay, Ontario, along the shore of Lake Superior. The claims are
numbered as follows:

The ground is accessible by road from Heron Bay.
The grid consists of 31.75 kms of cut line controlled by a
3.5 km baseline. Picket lines were established at 120m intervals with
25m stations.

rr. O PERSONNEL
The survey was carried out by J. Maclsaac and D. Houge, both
employees of Noranda Exploration Company, Limited.
4-O INSTRUMENTATION
4,l Magnetometer
The MP-3 Magnetometer, manufactured by Scintrex Limited of
Concord, Ontario, was utilized on this survey. The total field
measurement is read with a resolution of 0.1 nts. Diurnal variations
were made using a base station.
4 . l VLF-EM System
The VLF-EM system employed on this survey was the EM-16 unit
manufactured by Geonics Limited of Toronto, Ontario. The survey
parameters used were as follows:
Transmitter : Cutler, Maine
Frequency : 21.4 KHz
Reading Interval : 10 and 20 meters
Measurements : In-Phase and Quadrature
components in percent
5. O G
The property is on the south limb of the Hemlo Syncline, part
of the Abitibi, Wawa, Shebandowan Greenstone Belt. The area is
rnderlain by felsic pyroclastics to the north with mafic volcanics in
the south. The main trend is easterly with dips moderate to steeply
north.
6 - 0 DISCUSSION OF RESULTS
The magnetic variation in the survey area is from 6650 to
-2520 nts with background in the 200 to 500 nts range. Magnetics trend
roughly east/west as shown by Anomaly D. However the most striking
features are the north/south trending diabase dykes A and E. The
actual dykes seem to be somewhat offset from the lines and produce a
distorted appearance.
Zone C is an easterly trending mag high about 400 nts above
background. This may represent a more mafic unit in the felsics, as
may the other magnetic highs in the northern part of the grid.
A possible fault is labeled B. It is defined by the possible
distortion at the end of Anomaly C. Other breaks in the east end of
Anomaly D also suggest a fault.
The main part of Anomaly D is probably related to the
contacts between felsics to the north and mafics to the south. The
northern outline of the zone possibly outlines the contact.
A total of 21 VLF conductive zones have been outlined. These
vary in quality from likely bedrock responses such as B, C and L, to
clearly overburden sources such as D. Generally, the bedrock responses
are defined by their reasonable amplitude and narrow width. As such O
P are of some interest as they appear to be related to the
east/west magnetic trends.
Responses G and F are of a style that mark horizontal
conductors and are therefore likely related to overburden.
Zones I, H and J are in the vicinity of the mafic/felsic
contact and may in part reflect this feature.
7.O CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The magnetic survey has outlined some geological variations
which should be checked to verify the source. This is also true of the
better VLF responses as they may be marking minor sulphide zones in
the felsics.
