DESCRIPTION

The 5th RPA-Luas Art Competition is now open for entries. We’re looking for the best art form using the theme Luas and Me. The competition is open to anyone aged 16 years or over and any art form is acceptable. Make sure you read the Rules of Entry on page 5 of the Information Booklet before submitting your work. ABOUT THE COMPETITION

The 5th RPA-Luas Art Competition is now open for entries. We’re looking for the best art form using the theme Luas and Me. The competition is open to anyone aged 16 years or over and any art form is acceptable. There is one overall winner and eleven runners-up in the competition. Make sure you read the Rules of Entry on page 5 before submitting your work.

THEME OF COMPETITION

The theme for this year’s 5th RPA-Luas Art Competition is Luas and Me. We would like entrants to exercise their creative imagination and use this theme for their entry. We look forward to seeing your artwork, best of luck!

HOW TO ENTER

STEP 1 - ThemeUse the theme Luas and Me for your entry.

STEP 2 - Size of ArtworkVisual Entries Create your entry in the following two sizes: • A1 size (841mm high x 594mm wide) • Portrait size (595mm high x 350mm wide)

Save your entry as follows: • In digital format • High resolution • 300 DPI • PDF format • Label your file with your first and last name and the title (Example: JohnDoe_title.pdf)

If your artwork is not exactly A1 or Portrait size you can edit it to match the sizes. You can also add a white border around your artwork to make it fit the sizes.

Written Entries Create your entry in A4 size Word document format. Label your file with your first and last name and the title (Example: JohnDoe_title.doc)

STEP 3 - Number of EntriesOnly one entry may be submitted per individual.

RULES OF ENTRY

1) You must be aged 16 years or over to enter the competition.2) Entries should be based on the competition theme Luas and Me.3) Any member of the public can enter; you can work in partnership or groups if you choose to. 4) Each person or entity can enter 1 piece of work.5) All entries must be original and must not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party.6) Each entry must contain the following information; • Name(s) • Address(es) • E-mail Address(es) (if available) • Daytime Phone Number(s) • Date(s) of Birth • Title of Entry7) All visual entries must be submitted in the following two sizes: • A1 size (841mm high x 594mm wide) • Portrait size (595mm high x 350mm wide)8) All visual entries must be submitted in digital format; High Res 300 DPI PDF.9) All written entries must be submitted A4 Word document format. 10) All written entries must be labelled with your first and last name and the title (Example: JohnDoe_title.doc)11) Entries must be submitted by e-mail or by CD ROM / DVD. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 1) Is there an age limit for entering the competition? You must be aged 16 years or over to enter the competition.

2) Is this competition open to children? No, you must be aged 16 years or over to enter the competition

3) How many entries can I or we make? RPA will accept only one entry from each individual, partnerships or group.

4) Will I still own my creation? In order to conduct the competition RPA must have free use of the creative work thus all entries remain the property and copyright of RPA. RPA will consider returning the copyright of artwork that is not used by the RPA at the request of the entrant. RPA will also consider returning the copy right of artwork that is used by the RPA at the request of entrant.

5) Can I work with an artistic partner? Yes, RPA will accept entries created by partnerships and groups. RPA retain the right to separate such works into a separate category for judging purposes.

6) Does the work have to be original? All entries must be original work.

7) What size should the entry be? Visual Entry: • A1 (841mm high x 594mm wide) and • Portrait (595mm high x 350mm wide) These sizes correspond to the final prize display sizes. Written Entry: • Submit in A4 Word format.

8) Do I have to submit both sizes? All submissions must be submitted in the correct sizes, if not submitted in the correct sizes the artwork will be deemed incomplete and not be entered into the judging process.

9) My artwork is not A1 or Luas Portrait size, how can I submit it? If your artwork if not exactly A1 or Luas Portrait you can edit it to match the sizes. You can also add a white border around your artwork to make it fit the sizes. If a variety of sizes were accepted we would have to alter people’s artwork to make them fit a common size. We would then be interfering in people’s creative process and tampering with artwork.

10) What kind of work is acceptable? Any creation is acceptable as long as it can be reproduced in the two sizes listed above on a flat surface.

11) When is the closing date? The closing date is Monday 3rd October 2011.

12) What kind of work are you looking for? RPA will accept visual or written work i.e. digital reproduction of painting, graphic design, comic design, digital reproduction of sculpture, photography, poetry, short story, comedy writing or any work that can be reproduced in the two sizes listed above on a flat surface. 13) How will work in different formats be judged? The entries will be split into categories based on medium. These categories will be defined by the RPA once all entries have been received.

14) How do I send in my artwork? Submit your artwork in digital format; High Res 300 DPI PDF for visual entries and in Word format for written entries. 15) My artwork will not e-mail, what do I do? Many files are too large for e-mail. If you are having this problem, save it to a CD Rom or DVD Disk and the disk with all your information to Luas Customer Care FREEPOST, Luas Depot, Red Cow Roundabout, Clondalkin, Dublin 22. Postage is free.

16) Can I send hard copy? No, we will not accept entries by hard copy.

17) Apart from my work what other information do I need to give? Each entry must contain the following information; • Name(s) • Address(es) • E-mail Address(es) (if available) • Daytime Phone Number(s) • Date(s) of Birth • Title of Entry

18) Who are the judges? The judging panel will be made up of RPA staff; staff from Veolia Transport (the operator of Luas) and experts from the arts sector. The make up of the judging panel is at the discretion of the RPA.

19) How will judging work? The entries will be split into categories based on medium. These categories will be defined by the RPA once all entries have been received. Judging of the artwork will be done anonymously so that no entrant has an advantage over another.

20) How could my work fail to be entered into the judging process? Your work could fail to be entered into the judging process if you: • You are under 16 years of age. • Your entry is not based on the theme of the competition. • Do not provide your Name, Address, E-mail Address, Daytime Phone Number and Date of Birth. • Do not submit your visual entry in the two sizes requested. • Do not submit your written entry in the format requested. • Cannot guarantee that your work is original • Refuse to grant RPA copyright of your work. • Do not submit your work in digital format.

21) Can I submit an entry that was previously published elsewhere? All artwork must be original. If you have previously published an original piece of artwork elsewhere you can enter it into the competition as long as you retain copyright of that work and can grant it to RPA for the purposes of the competition.

22) Are RPA Staff allowed to enter? The RPA-Luas Art Competition is a democratic competition and everyone aged 16 years or over is allowed to enter including RPA Staff. Judging of the artwork will be done anonymously so that no entrant has an advantage over another.

23) Are staff of RPA contractors or attached agencies and businesses allowed to enter? The RPA-Luas Art Competition is a democratic competition and everyone aged 16 years or over is allowed to enter including staff of RPA, contractors and attached agencies and businesses so that no entrant has an advantage over another.
