It has been an exciting month for the Royal Oak School community. Our school

their positive approach to school. Many people who have visited our school have

commented on how polite and kind our students are.

Extra curricular opportunities have already started for students. The soccer, cross-

country, dance and rowing teams have started and we have over 100 enthusiastic

students participating. Stay tuned for more announcements about exciting opportu-

nities for your son/daughter. In order to stay up-to-date with our busy school, we

encourage you to check the school website for announcements after 10:00am each

SPORTS & CLUBS

Physical Education classes occur both inside the school’s gym and outside on our playing fields. Students go back and forth between these spaces until December when all classes come inside. With this in mind, students need inside and outside gym strips. Inside clothing is clean non-marking runners, shorts and a t-shirt. See our ROMS clothing Gym Pack ROMS clothing Gym Pack ROMS clothing Gym Pack ROMS clothing Gym Pack in the back of this newsletter and online, to order a ROMS Gym Strip by October 17, 2012. When outside, students should still have good runners and clothing that they can move around in — it would be appropriate to dress in layers. Royal Oak has a wonderful tradition of athletics and sports teams. We like to see all of our students play

on at least one sports team each year.

EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSING

The emergency closing of a school is a rare occurrence, nevertheless circumstances such as a heavy snowfall or an extended power failure can demand that such a decision be made. It is important that you are aware of the procedures, outlined be-

low, should such an emergency closure become necessary.

1. The school district will provide information to the media when schools are being closed. There will notnotnotnot be media releases when schools are open and operating.

2. The following radio stations will be provided with closure details for immediate broadcast: CFAX (1070 AM), CIOC (The Ocean CFAX (1070 AM), CIOC (The Ocean CFAX (1070 AM), CIOC (The Ocean CFAX (1070 AM), CIOC (The Ocean ---- 98.5 FM), CKKQ (The Q 98.5 FM), CKKQ (The Q 98.5 FM), CKKQ (The Q 98.5 FM), CKKQ (The Q ---- 100.3 100.3 100.3 100.3 FM), JACKFM), JACKFM), JACKFM), JACK (103.1(103.1(103.1(103.1 FM), CBC Radio (90.5 FM) and KOOL(107.3FM).FM), CBC Radio (90.5 FM) and KOOL(107.3FM).FM), CBC Radio (90.5 FM) and KOOL(107.3FM).FM), CBC Radio (90.5 FM) and KOOL(107.3FM). 3. If a school closure decision is made when a school is in session, students will be permitted to leave school only after contact has been

made with a parent/guardian or a person pre-authorized by a parent/guardian. If contact is not possible, school administrators will

make appropriate arrangements.

Alternate arrangements may be made for students with special needs. An early bus run will be organized if road conditions permit.

If a school closure decision becomes necessary, your understanding, tolerance and cooperation will be most appreciated. If you have con-cerns regarding the above procedure, please call the principal of your child's school to enable him or her to consider the matter before an

emergency occurs.

Breakfast Is Still The Most Important Meal Of The Day!

Breakfast boosts brainpower. Children who eat breakfast do better on math and reading tests. Overall, kids who eat breakfast eat better. They eat more servings of grains, vegetables and fruit and milk. They get more of the

nutrients they need every day.

The brain uses carbohydrate as its main source of energy. The body’s carbohydrate stores are low after a night’s sleep. Include carbohydrate-rich grains, vegetables and fruit at breakfast to provide fuel for the brain so your child can do his or her best at school.

Last year ROMS raised over $1000.00 to support a small Dominican Republic mountain village school located in the village of La Sabanna. The funds paid for 24 school uniforms.

The project is also sponsoring the replacement of the leaking school roof which will be completed in October. The project coor-dinator, Bob Elder, will visit La Sabanna in October to assist with the roof replacement and research future projects.

If YOU would like to support our program, you can purchase an excellent im-ported Dominican coffee.
