Dear Rotarians,

Spring is just around the corner and this is one of my favorite times of the

year. It a period of a fresh beginning with nature and an end to “old man”

winter; and in my case, spring gives me a rejuvenated attitude. Another

reason I love this time of year is my passion for sports…spring baseball,

March Madness in NCAA basketball and contending NBA teams start playing

hard the entire game!

So, why not take this enthusiasm and bring it Rotary? We’re all passionate

about being a Rotarian and we love what our clubs do to help our community

and those around the globe. Let’s take this enthusiasm and spread the word

of our efforts. Can’t you see the enthusiasm catching onto your fellow co-

workers, neighbors and your spouse/partner? Invite them to your next club

meeting, social event or fundraiser and share all the ‘good’; and see how

Rotary is Connecting the World.

Let’s continue our efforts to Grow Rotary. We need to ... (CONTINUED ON

DISTRICT GOVERNOR’S MESSAGE — CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS PAGE

...grow in service and our impact, but just as important growing membership. Attracting new members and

engaging current Rotarians are vital; and it’s time to look at new club models, more membership types and

expanding our efforts in Rotaract. Has your club considered broadening membership types, like corporate or

family? Have you thought about adding a satellite club to expand the opportunity to bring in new members…a

different time of the day, a different day, a different location? What else can you do to attract new members?

Thanks for all you do; and I look forward to seeing you at our Celebration Luau in April.

Yours in Rotary,

Lance Singleton

Rotarian has the following qualifications at the time of selection.

b. The Rotarian must be a member in good standing of a functioning club in the district.

c. The Rotarian must have full qualifications for such membership in the strict application of the provisions

therefore, and the integrity of the Rotarian’s classification must be without question.

and responsibilities of that office and to perform them faithfully.

g. Unless specifically excused by the board, a governor at the time of taking office must have attended the

international assembly for its full duration, been a member of one or more Rotary clubs for at least seven

h. Unless specifically excused by the board, a governor at the time of taking office must have been a mem-

ber of a functioning club in the district for four years.

WINGS OF ROTARY CANCELLED It is with regret that our district has canceled the Wings student exchange with Japan due to the COVID-19

concern. The well-being of students and all those involved is paramount.

As we have enjoyed some 40+ years youth exchange with our Wings program, we want to continue the tradi-

tion; and we will continue our exchange next year. So, if your club was scheduled to be a host or you spon-

sored a student, please let Keith Oehlert know if you want to do so again next year. Also, the Wings commit-

tee is working diligently to return funds to all those affected.

We thank your for your support of Wings and your understanding of this difficult decision.

PAWHUSKA—100 YEAR CELEBRATION!

Longtime Pawhuska Rotarian Strat Tolson, talks about

some of the history of the club during a Feb. 18 celebration

of Pawhuska Rotary's centennial. The program, presented

by Tolson's nephew Steve Tolson, featured memorabilia

and historical information about the club, as well as a word

from other longtime members. In a proclamation read at

the meeting, Pawhuska's mayor declared Feb. 17 Rotary

Day in honor of the centennial. The club began meeting

Feb. 17, 1920 in the former Duncan Hotel, and today

gathers each Tuesday at the Osage Nation Elder Nutrition

Center.

MIDWEST CITY—PASSING OF KEN BARTLETT

Longtime community volunteer and Midwest City Rotarian Kenneth Bartlett

passed from this life on the morning of Tuesday, February 11, 2020. Ken had

been a proud resident of Del City, OK since 1957.

Midwest City Rotarians will remember him most for:

• Ken single-handedly ran our Veteran's memorial and orders for honorary

bricks continue to come in (we received one just a week or so prior to his

passing).

• Ken was a fervent Paul Harris Fellow advocate. It is largely because of

Ken that we became a Paul Harris Fellow club last year.

• Ken was also a staunch supporter of District and International participa-

tion. While Ken's "bark" is well known, Ken lead by example on all of these points and never asked a per-

son to do something he hadn't already done.

Ken’s Rotary work includes:

• Midwest City Rotary Past President 2009-10

• Multiple Paul Harris Fellow

• Paul Harris Society

• Past Assistant District Governor

CUSHING—INAUGURAL “FILL THE BUS”

CHANDLER—WAR COLLEGE TRAINING

Chandler Rotary Club had the privilege of having a speaker of one of the spouses

this past Friday. Lori Vaughan's husband, Lt. Colonel Jack Vaughan, spoke to us

about nearing the end of his year long training at War College in Pennsylvania. His

training included strategies for peace-keeper and national security by attending

various lectures, group discussions, seminars, readings and writings. He will have a

Master's degree when finished. The attendees included representatives from other

countries. He answered questions about cyberwar among others. We are so proud

of Lt. Col. Jack and the many veterans who protect and defend our country. It was a

great pleasure for him to take time to speak to us.

SPEAKER REQUEST—OKLAHOMA ALLIANCE FOR HEALTHY FAMILIES The Oklahoma Alliance for Healthy Families is a statewide coalition of public health experts and parents with

the goal of improving the health of our schools, communities and families through impactful advocacy about

the effectiveness of immunizations. As you know, immunizations are an important piece of preventing illness.

Vaccine exemptions in Oklahoma have seen a 52% percent increase from the 2016-17 school year to the

2018-19 school year and misinformation is one of the primary reasons for this increase. The Oklahoma State

Health Department has proposed new immunization rules that would better inform parents of the benefits of

immunizations prior to requesting an exemption.

We would love to talk with you about state vaccination education, how state rules are being changed, and

about what the Oklahoma Alliance for Healthy Families is doing.

Best,

Gabbi Westbrook
