PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

EDITORIAL

Dato Muslim Ayob

Past President

A very good afternoon to all espe-cially to our PDG Dr Paul Lee, past presidents, guests and fellow Ro-tarians

The excitement of our country’s general elec-tion is over and now it is back to normal times. Less exciting though but Rotary never stops. Even before the election day on 11th May 2018 we had Rotary functions being car-ried out. - on 29th April 2018 we had our 3rd Club As-sembly at the residence of Rtn Tenny Lee and directors gave comprehensive reports of what was happening in the club. The attendance was reasonable though it could be better as we had a good speaker in Mr Reuben Teoh who spoke on the fire prevention subject “Don’t Give Fire a Chance” - on 1st May 2018 we did something good at the Loke Yew flats. On this meaningful day of “Mayday” Pudu Rotarians and friends pooled together some money and distributed day to day essentials to 100 families of the Loke Yew and San Peng flats. This project under the title “From Rotary With Love” was in cooperation with the Rotary Club of Puchong Centennial and Rotary Club of Kam-pung Baru City Centre. Everyone was happy and had a good time and good fellowship with real people who really needed help. - we had a successful Joint Dinner meeting on 2nd May 2018 with the rotary club of KLCC, Rotary Club of Puchong Centennial at the Hotel Furama. About 20 of our members were there. Last minute we even had the Ro-tary Club of Subang joining in the meeting. It was good fellowship and good networking. At the joint meeting our club Vocational Ser-vice launched the “4 Way Test car sticker project”. - after the election we had an interesting hi-tea date with the Interact Teacher Advisors on Fri 11th May 2018 at the Hotel Shangri-

I can’t help but notice that every year we spent money and gave away 4-Way Test stickers as part of the Vocational Service project. I wonder if this gesture is really

appreciated and the messages have any im-pact. From what I noticed with the kleptocracy sit-uation prevailing with so many lies and un-truths practised by our leaders, this 4-Way Test stickers should have really gone to those people concerned. Giving it away to Rotari-ans or parents of Interactors or office col-leagues hardly serve its purpose. ON this issue, I’d also like to make a sugges-tion to make this 4-Way Test give-away much more meaningful. And that is to have it print-ed on the Touch-n-Go card. Load it up with RM 10, 20 or so, and give it away. It’ll be very much appreciated; I am sure it’ll be reg-ularly used and thus the Rotary message will make a much better impact. If we can help it, pass it on the pathological liars, purveyors of half-truths or blatant untruths that we know.

Jeffrey Yap President RY 2017-18

la . We had about 20 rotarian advisors attend-ing and PDG Dr Paul Lee was our speaker. He spoke on the do’s and don't’s as an Inter-act advisors. 14 teacher advisors attended and the fellowship was good. - towards the end of this Rotary year we are now talking about Sister Clubs’ Installations and amongst the first to have their installation are: the Rotary Club of Dhonburi on 27 June 2018 and Rotary Club of Songkhla on 23rd June 2018. The respective Rotarians in charge PP Alex Chang and PP Gary Lim are taking down names to participate. I am sure many are keen to see our friends at the sister club events.

RI NEWS—PRESIDENT 2018-19

Barry Rassin, of the Rotary Club of East Nassau, New Provi-dence, Bahamas, is the selection of the Nominating Com-mittee for President of Rotary International for 2018-19. As president, Rassin aims to strengthen our public image and our use of digital tools to maximize Rotary’s reach. “Those who know what good Rotary clubs do will want to be a part of it, and we must find new models for membership that allow all interested in our mission to participate,” he says. “With Rotary more in the public eye, we will attract more individuals who want to be part of and support a member-ship organization that accomplishes so much good around the world.”

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE

Interesting Observation One reality about Europe ’s current leadership is summarized here:

Macron, the French president, has no children. German chancellor Angela Merkel has no children. British prime minister Theresa May has no children. Italian prime minister Paolo Gentiloni has no children. Holland’s Mark Rutte, has no children Sweden’s Stefan Löfven, has no children Luxembourg's Xavier Bettel, has no children Scotland’s Nicola Sturgeon — has no children. Jean-Claude Juncker, president of the European Commission, has no children.
