The BBQers at

the Eltham Toy Library Market fund raising day. Thank you to Alan White, Steve Crosling and Michael Zhao. Michael, a Toy Library volunteer spent the whole morning cooking snags. And yes he has been invited to our meeting on Tuesday night – he was very interested in Rotary.

THE PRESIDENTIAL CROSS CHAT

XRAY STEVE

Our meeting last Tuesday was our monthly club assembly which covered a lot of

ground over a range of issues that were initiated at the Board meeting held on the

previous Monday evening. To give you some idea of what was discussed, particularly if

you were an apology at the Tuesday night meeting some of the topics discussed were:

Funding request for bushfire family.

Diamond Valley Special School: Greg Adams to follow up. Board voted to

fund up to $2000.

AquaBox. Per Alan Jones. Board voted to sponsor one AquaBox - $750

New Zealand visitors -BBQ at Rob Lloyds – Saturday 22nd September. Please

advise Rob if you can attend

Membership – mail drop – Alan Jones and Phil Chambeyron to organise – trial

run at Yarrambat Post Office.

The 3 year leadership and succession plan is well under way with particular

emphasis in committee protocols and guidelines.

Combined Services Dinner – to be held on 9th

October.

Club Shirts – Arthur Lewin has organised our new club / conference shirts and

will have samples available for size trialling.

Kangaroo Ground Primary School – Arthur Lewin is to follow up and advise

what, if any, commitments are required from our club.

Police & CFA Awards – need a coordinator – please talk to Rod Mackenzie for

some background on this event and think about volunteering. This will give

our club some fantastic local exposure.

Rotaract meetings – Jacqui Hodge. We still need some volunteers to attend

Rotaract meetings and represent the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek.

Simplified Grants – Greg Adams discussed the basics of this system and

explained that there are still funds available at a District level. Need a couple

of ideas for projects that need some funds.

RYLA. Board voted to provide up to $3000 to sponsor successful applicants.

Linda Gidlund spoke about RYLA and the need for members to support this

program.

Foundation. Linda Gidlund briefly described the structure of Foundation and

what our club can do, particularly with respect to our ongoing involvement

with the Goroke Hospital project. More to follow in Foundation Awareness

Month – November.

Mernda Probus. This is currently being coordinated by Ern Wardell.

Tenderfoot School. Greg Adams discussed our ongoing involvement in this

project.

FROM YOU FOUNDATION

REPORTER

Checking in on Possum¹s Project

Gday Diamond Creek,

I will be travelling to Goroka on the 24th

September for meetings in Goroka with

the Hospital, the Provincial Health

Administration and the Rotary Club of

Goroka.

This will include discussing and refining

their wish list and deciding on the best

approach including seeking matching

funds from the Foundation and/or Aus

Aid.

The amount in the account is

approximately $35,400. The response

from the District was one of the most

pleasing aspects of the year as DG. When

I travel to Goroka I plan to take with me

our first contribution a portable

ultrasound machine.

I am also waiting on the Rotary Club of

Goroka to receive a TE number which will

permit it to receive containers through

the Port of Lae which will allow the

release and delivery of containers

addressed to the Club to be speeded up.

Once I receive that number, we will be

packing a container at the DIK store for

shipping. This will contained a number of

items in the Essendon DIK store we have

identified as suitable for and have been

reserved for the Goroka Hospital, now

called the Eastern Highlands Provincial

Hospital. The container will also include

those many mothers and baby packs

which were organised by Ruth Little at

the RC of Rosanna as well as those

contributed by others around the District.

Regards PDG David"

Hi All at Diamond Creek,

We boarded the Golden Eagle on the Trans Siberian Railway last

Sunday, behind a P36 Steam Locomotive. Top speed is 125 Klms towing

245 tons of train. We are now adjusting to our compact cabin, and the

rocking motion of the train.

There are 75 passengers on the train. There are 7 of us Aussie's,

Americans, Canadians, a few Germans and 1 Dutch. A good mixture of

nationalities.

At each stop we have been doing tours with local guides and learning a

lot about the Russian culture and History.

Our first stop after Moscow was Kazan, then Yekaterinburg, and

Novosibirsk the fourth largest city in Russia. Today is a day on the train

traveling across Siberia to Irkutsk, which is know as the Paris of Siberia.

We are having a great time. All the best to all at Diamond Creek RC.

Bye for now,

Geoff and Glenda. The Travellers.

We thank you for our daily food

May Rotary friends and Rotary ways,

help us to serve you all our days.

Australians all let us rejoice,

For we are young and free;

We've golden soil and wealth for toil,

Our home is girt by sea;

Our land abounds in Nature's gifts

Of beauty rich and rare;

In history's page, let every stage

Advance Australia fair!

In joyful strains then let us sing,

"Advance Australia fair!"
