“We had a lot of fun at Joyce's hotel room and lot's of drinks were provided. I had more fun playing my harmonica with the dance band. Trey took us out on his fast boat and drinks were provided so we had more fun. Next, a group of girls dressed as pirates captured an important Rotarian (during a cocktail party of course) and we had to pay ransom to accom-plish his freedom. What FUN-FUN-FUN!!!” Past President John Johnston

DISTRICT CONFERENCE
Rota-Reel Special Edition
“Dennis and our club were outstanding in the awards received. I personally enjoyed every-thing from our cocktail party Friday evening until the closing breakfast on Sunday. Great comradeship for all” Joyce Aigen
“As an intern, it was an honor and an invaluable experience to
attend the district conference. Before going, I didn't realize the
scope of what RI does locally and abroad. Thank you to all who
made it possible for us to attend!” Glenna Ruth Parkman
“I always return from District Conference with a greater
appreciation for Rotary and our own Valdosta Rotary Club.“
Past President James Dominey
“My first conference was a great experience. It would be difficult to pinpoint a single event. Highlights for me included Bill Curry’s message, the amazing Dr. Cliff Dochterman’s humorous yet poignant remarks, Dr. Allen Levey’s discussion of Alzheimer's and CART, boating fun and outings with fellow Rotarians and, of course, winning awards!” Nancy Warren
Plan NOW to attend in

District Conference 2010
April 23 - 25, 2010 Jekyll Island, Georgia
District Director’s Comments I am Happy to report that the Valdosta Rotary Club did very well at the District Conference this weekend on Jekyll Island! The awards we brought home for the club are as follows: Literacy Award citation, Zone 34 Literacy Award citation, District 6920 Rotary Favorite Reader – President Dennis Marks – citation and banner badge, Community Service Award (Large Clubs) – Runner Up banner, International Service Award (Large Clubs) – Runner Up banner, Interact Club Service Award to Valwood School Interact – banner, Best Club Scrapbook Award – banner, Best Club Display Award – banner, Club of the Year (Large Clubs) – Runner Up banner, Governor’s Award of Excellence citation and banner. We also carried off a few door prizes. Door prize winners included Dennis Marks, Patricia Marks, Dennis Marks (again!), Kristy Cates, and James Dominey. Unfortunately, none of us won the District Raffle, which
raised over $90,000. We will be able to tap into the money raised to help club mem-bers become Paul Harris Fellows (for supporting Polio Plus or the Annual Fund, which comes back to support District Simplified Grants) or Will Watt Fellows (for supporting the Georgia Rotary Student Program GRSP). At the Memorial Service Sunday morning conducted by District Governor Clyde Taylor and Rev. Charles Adams, President of Marshes of Glynn Rotary and former member of the Valdosta Rotary Club, Rotarians who have died since the last District Conference were remembered with a single ring each of the Rotary bell. Members of our club so remembered were Dr. Tom Smith and Past President Bob Young. The Valdosta Rotary Club was well represented by Rotarian Joyce Aigen, Rotarian Felecia Barnes, District Director Bill Booth and his wife Linda, Past Presi-dent Carl Cates and his wife Kristy and daughter Kitra, Past President James Dominey, Rotarian Trey Fausett and his friend Suzanne, Past President John Johnston and his wife Nell, Secretary Barbara Knight, President Dennis Marks and his wife Patricia, Past President Suzannah Patterson, Past President and Treasurer Nick Valenti, Rotarian Nancy Warren, Intern Lindsey Fulp, Intern Glenna Ruth Parkman, and GRSP Student Petter Svärd. We enjoyed the company of Assistant Governor Bob Harrison and his wife Leah, Past President Jerry Johnson, President Jeff Moxley, and President Elect Marty Rodgers, all of the Valdosta North Rotary Club, and President Steve Barnes and his daughter Katelynn of the Valdosta Sunrise Rotary Club. All I can say is that I was happy to get my exercise walking up to the front of the convention hall because each award represented the great work of so many members of our club. The Rotary Club of Valdosta has much to be proud of. Thank you to all who helped make this such a great year! Dennis Marks
From the President
This year's conference was one of the best we have ever had. The attendance was the best ever. Everything went very smooth. The kickoff luncheon was really great. Bill Curry was a great speaker. He got us off to a great start. Our cocktail party on Friday afternoon went very well and was attended not only by our club members but also by members of the Valdosta North Club. We all had a great time. Thanks to Joyce Aigen for letting us use her room. Also thanks to everyone that provided the bar and food. The RI Representa-tive Dr Cliff Dochterman, a past RI President, kept people in stitches with his humor the whole weekend.
The Awards Ceremony on Saturday night was well planned by Marsha Hyer. Her theme and the Rotarians that helped her in the talent show made the evening very amusing. On Sunday morning there was a memorial service for deceased Rotarians that we have lost in the past year. It was led by the Rev. Charles Adams, a former member of our club and President of the Marshes of Glynn Club. He did an outstanding job. The changing of the guard at the last plenary session went very smooth with Lloyd Horadan presenting his leadership team and challenging District 6920 to have fun with Rotary this year. We also took a lot of awards this year. I am very proud of Dennis' leadership and the effort of the whole club to make our year a success. Thanks to all. We had a great year. Bill Booth

Members of the Rotary Club of Valdosta pose Dr. Cliff Dochterman (l) and A.G. Bob Harrison (r) and the awards received at 2010 District 6920 Conference.
Glenna Ruth Parkman (l) and Lindsey Fulp (r) did a magnificent job as interns for the club this past semester. Thanks to their hard work under the leadership of Dr. Suzannah Patterson, the Rotary Club of Valdosta brought home the banners for Best Club Scrapbook and Best Club Display.
The Valdosta Area Rotary clubs brought home multiple literacy awards and citations. Pictured (l to r) are President Jeff Moxley of Valdosta North, President Steve Barnes of Valdosta Sunrise, A.G. Bob Harrison, President Dennis Marks of the Rotary Club of Valdosta, Shauna von Hanstein, Operations Director of the Ferst Foundation, Director Bill Booth, and Past District Governor and chair of the District 6920 Literacy Committee Keenan Kern.
Allan I. Levey, M.D. of Emory presented at the conference. Levey was the recipient of the very first Rotary CART grant.
Bill Curry, head football coach at Georgia State, gave a very motivating presentation. He is seen here with Rotarians Bill Booth and Nancy Warren.
...and a good time was had by all !
