Ross Hill Public School is proud to welcome Christine Anu In Conversation & Song On Monday 12th August, Ross Hill students from years 3 to 6, combined with students from Inverell High School will be entertained by Australia’s iconic indigenous female entertainer, Christine Anu. The performance will commence at 1:15pm. On this very special occasion Christine will share personal anecdotes on life and her successes in the Australian Entertainment Industry, her advocacy work for diversity and inclusion and the importance of First Nations culture, languages and songlines. Christine will also incorporate the 2019 NAIDOC Week theme. Christine Anu is a national treasure and Australia’s most iconic female Indigenous Entertainer. Trained in dance at the National Aboriginal Islander Skills Development Association (NAISDA) her illustrious career spans over25 years including music, theatre, dance, film and television. Christine is a multi-award winning recording artist, including ARIA Song of the Year for My Island Home, ARIA Best Female Artist for Stylin Up, ARIA Best Video for Bazmark’s Now Until The Break of Day with David Hobson and many Deadly, Green Room and Sydney Theatre Awards. More recently, Christine’s 1995 version of My Island Home was added to the National Film Sound Archive’s Sound of Australia registry. Celebrating Book Week— Week 5 The Australian Children’s Book Week theme for 2019 is ‘Reading is My Secret Power’. Stories are powerful. The ability to read opens up the magical world of stories where the wondrous, impossible and magnificent can happen. This year Ross Hill Public School will be celebrating Book Week with a dress-up day. This will be held on Thursday 22 nd August. All students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character or embrace this year’s Book Week theme of “Reading is My Secret Power” and dress in a superhero costume. Students will spend 2 library lessons interacting with a number of texts which have made this year’s shortlist.

P&C Canteen News The past 2 weeks have been extremely busy for the P&C canteen. A big thank you to everyone who helped out. We appreciate your time. Our school canteen provides an outstanding service to our students, parents and staff. It would not be possible for our canteen to run without the generous assistance of parent helpers. We would very much appreciate any time that parents or friends could give to help out in our canteen. Please contact the school if you can assist. Away from School Is your child away from school for any reason? If students are absent from school for any reason, parents are asked to contact the school to advise the office by phone on 6722 2475.

Congratulations Last Wednesday evening the Sapphire Community of Schools Education Week awards ceremony was held at the Riverside Function Centre. These awards are held annually to acknowledge the outstanding contributions to public education by students, staff and community members. This year we would like to acknowledge and congratulate the following awardees. Jackson Binnie– Student Award for Outstanding Citizenship Ann Grace– School Staff Award Janelle Kimmince-School Community Award Congratulations to you all. Scholastic Book Fair A huge thank you to Mrs Davis and her group of helpers for the wonderful book fair that was held during the week in the school library. Many families took the opportunity to visit and there were lots of beautiful books and goodies on offer for purchase. The money raised from the book fair supports our students learning.

Kindergarten 2020 If you have a child turning six next year or turning five before 31st July 2020 and they are eligible to enrol at Ross Hill please drop by the school office to collect a Kindergarten enrolment package.

Staff and students celebrated Birthday Celebrations at Ross Hill on Monday. Ross Hill is 125 years old this year Everyone celebrated with birthday cake. It was lovely to see some of our retired teachers visit and stroll through the school grounds.

Disability Mini Expo – 15th August 2019– in Inverell Macintyre High School is pleased to announce we are hosting a Disability Mini Expo on 15th August 2019 from 10am12pm in the school hall at Macintyre High School. The Expo provides an excellent opportunity for people with disabilities, their parents and families and carers to get information directly from a wide variety of Disability Service Providers attending the Expo. This Expo is for people of any age who have a disability. Information and advise will be provided on a one to one basis. Disability and Community Organisations will be able to provide information and advise on: Accessing the NDIS, Early Intervention Services, Carer Support Advocacy, Accommodation Training and Education, Employment, Post-School options.
