CHECK LIST OFREQUIREMENTS

» Full Rosehill consignment of panels,

base plates and edge beams.

» Diagram showing layout of panels and

position of winged baseplates.

» Dry mix concrete, standard mix using

Portland cement and aggregate. Note: only

use 20% of the normal water content.

Approximate requirement – 5 cubic metres,

depending on actual width and depth of

trenches.

» Asphalt to match with the existing

road surface.

» Rosehill rubber panel paint for applying

the road markings.

» Vibratory compacter.

» A minimum of 4 crowbars, 30mm diameter

x 1800mm long.

» Sweeping brushes, shovels etc.

» 4.5/5kg sledge hammer.

» 1.5kg club hammer.

» A petrol chain saw with a new, sharp blade

– 4.4kw x 60cm minimum.

» French chalk for marking out the panels,

for any cutting that may be required.

» Tape measures: 1 x 20m and 1 x 5m.

» Soapy water / washing up liquid,

assists fitting of baseplates and panels

by reducing friction.

» Rosehill lifting pins are recommended

for lifting and manoeuvring the

crossing panels.

» Remove the existing crossing panels.

» Check sleeper spacings, sleepers must

be at 600mm centres, adjust if necessary

and tamp ballast.

» Prepare trenches 500mm deep x 350mm

wide at both ends of sleepers, for the length

of the crossing.

» Rake ballast level with the top of the sleepers

in 4’-0” area.

» Clear debris away from the rail clips and the

top of all sleepers.

» Measure to determine the centre of the crossing.

Work to the left and right from the centre.

» Position baseplates adjacent to relevant

sleepers, note the position of the winged

base plates.

» Starting in the centre of the crossing,

fit gauge panels.

» Starting in the centre of the crossing,

position the field panels with front edge

touching the rail head.

» Lay approximately 200mm depth of dry mix

concrete in trenches for edge beams, compact

and adjust if necessary to measure 305mm

from rail top.

» Layout all edge beams, top edge must be 5mm

below the top of the field panels.

» Wedge the edge beam and field panels tightly

against the rail head using timber packed

between the edge beam and road excavation.

Timber from delivery pallets can be used for

this purpose.

» Fill above and behind the edge beams with

dry mix concrete and compact to approx 70mm

from the road surface to allow for asphalt.

» Fill remaining groove with compacted asphalt,

take care not to damage the field panels.

The asphalt must finish level with the top of

the field panels and edge beams.

» Clear away all debris.

ROSEHILLSAFE LIFTING PINS

www.rosehillrail.com

10

» Rosehill have designed in-house, a new

set of safe lifting pins, specifically

developed to assist in the lifting of our

rubber crossing panels. These innovative

lifting pins lock in position and can’t fly out

during lifting.

The lifting pins, supplied in pairs, have been

tested to a safe working load of 350kg and can

be used to lift individual panels, or two sets can

be used in tandem to install both gauge panels

together for even faster installations.

ROSEHILLPANEL MARKING PAINT

» Rosehill Panel Marking Paint is a polyurethane system which has been formulated

in-house by our chemists to provide good mechanical properties, high tensile

strength and elongation.

Its flexibility enables it to move with atmospheric changes

and is more durable than acrylic based products.

When applied correctly it will also have a longer lifespan

between applications.
