Fancy making your own Lego movie? Using digital technology and hand-made sets, watch as your Lego figures come to life! Tutors will share tips and techniques on set building, filming, and editing and everyone gets to bring home a copy of their movie.

Materials are supplied, though participants are encouraged to bring along their favourite Lego characters. Suitable for ages 8+, limited to 20 per session.

JIG GENERATION: MUSIC WORKSHOPAs part of our Bealtaine celebrations, musicians Caitlin Nic Gabhann and Ciarán O Maonaigh invite children and grandparents to their inter-generational music workshop.

A partnership between Roscommon Arts Centre and Leitrim Sculpture Centre, Manorhamilton, the project takes the form of a residency where the gallery spaces within the arts centre’s will be used as active production and research areas for selected artists. This will be an open call for visual artists.

Technologies for Internal Explorations SIOBHAN MCGIBBON

Exhibition continues until June 19th

Siobhan McGibbon is the recipient of the inaugural Roscommon Visual Artists Forum Award. This new body of work, expands on investigations undertaken during her on-going residency in Galway University Hospital. With a specific focus on anatomy, the medicalisation of the body, how “normal” is analysed within the medical field and the human experience within a medical environment.

The 2015 Visual Arts programme for King House begins with an exhibition by Christine Mackey, running parallel with Contexts:01, an exhibition of works from the Boyle Civic Art Collection that respond to Christine’s work.

Christine will install a number of works that respond to a recent public art commission in Ballaghaderreen, inviting audiences to engage on their own exploration of this typical town in County Roscommon.

EXHIBITION OPENS APRIL 13th and continues until JUNE 13th.

SPUD is a public art community project led by artist Deirdre O’Mahony. From March 2015, Deirdre will be working with voluntary participants to cultivate a large “X” shaped temporary lazybed of blight resident potatoes marking the site of the National Famine Museum at Strokestown Park House. The lazybeds will be in place until August 2015.

SPUD PUBLIC TALK & PARMENTIER LUNCHThere will be a talk and introduction to the project by Dr. Deirdre O’Mahony at Strokestown Park House, followed by lunch inspired by French pharmacist, AA Parmentier’s Potato Feasts in the 18th century.

The Park Project Part Two will be a summer school / public art project in collaboration with curatorial partners Hollie Kearns and Rosie Lynch (Commonage / The Workhouse Assembly, Kilkenny).

Artists, ecologists, landscape architects and the local community will be invited to research and develop ideas around the usage of public spaces and parks, looking at the potential re-development of derelict or dilapidated sites around the environs of Boyle.

Maria McKinney - New WorkKING HOUSE, BOYLEMaria McKinney’s work considers the complexities that structure our everyday environment.

Maria has been commissioned to produce a number of small works that will be placed within the existing exhibits throughout King House, along with a more traditional display of her work that will be presented in the Long Gallery.

CONTEXTS:02 will be an exhibition of works from the Boyle Civic Art Collection that pick up on the materials, process and aesthetic of McKinney’s installation.

Almost twenty years in the making, “The Quiet Man” was arguably the most personal film of director John Ford’s long and illustrious career as well as one of his great achievements. Starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara this humorous, lively, endearing film remains as romantic and enjoyable as when it first came out in1952.

The Kadam family leaves India for France where they open a restaurant directly across the road from Madame Mallory’s (Helen Mirren) Michelin-starred eatery. However upon encountering the icy proprietor, the Kadam family realise they may have bitten off more than they can chew. As cultures clash and food flies, an all-out war escalates between the two establishments.

Ciarán O Maonaigh & Caitlin Nic Gabhann in ConcertCiarán Ó Maonaigh is a fiddle player from Donegal. A noted musician, he is no stranger to touring and his virtuosity and charismatic stage presence, make him a natural performer.

This time, he’s on the road with Caitlin Nic Gabhann, three times winner of the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil on concertina and a regular performer at festivals and in concert halls around the world. This pairing brings together two of the finest instrumentalists on the Irish traditional scene.

When a boy discovers a single-propeller airplane in his closet, he does what any young adventurer would do: he flies into outer space! Millions of miles from earth, the plane begins to sputter, so the boy must make a daring landing on the moon. But as it turns out, he is not alone up there...Based on the Oliver Jeffers book, this new show, without words, combines puppetry and music to realise a beautiful and imaginative story. The Reel Thing Sa CistinJoin Dermot Byrne (accordion) and Brid Harper (fiddle) as they cook up a storm for the Reel Thing summer sessions in the galley kitchen of Strokestown Park House. Dermot has been to the fore of traditional music circles for decades, with his unique style and command of the accordion and was a member of the trad group “Altan”.

Brid is renowned for her traditional fiddle playing, performing and touring extensively and has played with many top musicians and won numerous prestigious awards for her talents.

Brothers Jack and Peteen live side by side, but haven’t spoken in 40 years. When Peteen’s estranged wife dies in America, her son returns to Ireland and is torn between his love for his uncle and his respect for his father. Director Katherine Hunka and the Irish Chamber Orchestra combine Vivaldi’s iconic Four Seasons with Astor Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. Vivaldi’s Seasons is immensely popular and never fails to enchant with its musical brilliance. Each season is performed featuring three short movements. Brendan BowyerAn evening of nostalgia, filled with songs from his days with “The Royal Showband” and “The Big Eight”. Brendan Bowyer is an enduring legend of the showband era and continues to delight audiences with his high energy performances.

Joined on stage by his daughter Aisling, Brendan will be performing such well known classics as “The Hucklebuck”. Tickets must be paid for at time of booking.

The Gallery is open to the public during centre opening hours.

Please note tickets should be collected at least fifteen minutes before the advertised start time. Alternatively tickets can be collected from the box office during opening hours.

RESERVATIONS:Reservations will be held pending payment until 48 hours before a performance. Group reservations are held until one week before a performance. In order to comply with fire regulations, each person, even babies, must have a valid ticket for performances. Please check your reservation at time of booking as there is room for human error and mistakes cannot always be rectified at a later stage.There are no refunds or exchanges on tickets, unless events are cancelled/re-scheduled. If you are unable to attend an event please contact us and we will endeavour to assist you.

DISABLED PATRONS:Roscommon Arts Centre welcomes patrons with disabilities and can accommodate up to 8 wheelchair users at each performance. Patrons who are physically disabled, hearing, or visually impaired must be escorted to events. As a courtesy, the escort will be given a complimentary ticket to attend. These tickets, as well as wheelchair locations are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis, so please inform the Box Office of your seating needs at time of booking.

Although animals are not permitted in the arts centre, an exception is made for guide dogs and service animals, the box office should be made aware of such accommodations at time of booking. Please note the arts centre does not have elevators or escalators; the gallery and workshop spaces are not wheelchair accessible.

This policy is stated clearly on the back of all tickets and as part of the online booking facility which you agree to, by clicking acceptance of the terms and conditions. Staff also inform patrons at time of booking.

Shows commence promptly at the advertised start time. Roscommon County Council’s Code of Conduct for Customers and members of the public, clearly states the harassment of staff and behaviour which is disruptive will not be accepted and in this instance you will be asked to leave the premises.
