Dance Facilitator Catherine Donnelly and our over 50’s Elderberries Dance troupe join the staff and residents of the Sacred Heart Hospital in Roscommon this May as part of our Bealtaine programme. Together, the group will participate in weekly, chair-based sessions of gentle movement with music.

This two day camp will see participants collaborate on designing their own handmade set, scripting their own story, filming the results and adding some dialogue and sound effects using their favourite lego character. The afternoon workshop is ideally suited for children who are currently making stop motion films independently or have participated in previous Brickflicks events and who want to take their films to the next level.

Using the National Schools Folklore Collection from 1937-38 as a point of departure, Nollaig examines the many stories, material culture and folk customs of County Roscommon, as told by the generation after the 1916 Rising.

This commission has been supported by the County Roscommon 2016 Local Programme.

In response to the needs and requirements of the artists in the county, the Roscommon Visual Artists Forum Award was established. Vida Pain is the the second recipient of this award and she is producing a new body of work following on from her ongoing interest in the representation of familiar and often overlooked everyday scenes through the medium of paint.

Visual artist Ruth E. Lyons is using Lough Key Forest Park and its environs as a site for researching a new art project. The project commenced with the formation of the New Flying Saucer Workers Party; a core group with an interest in the search for extra terrestrial life, all based around the Boyle environs. Ruth’s work is concerned with landscape and for this project, she is interested in how space exploration re-defines our perception of the earth and the space we inhabit. The work produced will be installed in 2016.

Artist Karl Burke is collaborating with a group with intellectual disabilities from the Brothers of Charity in Boyle, County Roscommon. Working with the group the artist will be challenged with creating a work that explores the variants of sonic, visceral and visual experiences of the group. The work created will be specifically designed to respond to the nuanced interpretations of sounds and images across the spectrum of intellectual disabilities within the group.

Dublin, 24th April 1916. Ireland’s leading actors abandon a matinee of Cathleen Ni Houlihan. Stepping out of their costumes and taking their revolvers from beneath the Abbey stage, they march to Dublin Castle. Firing the first shots of the insurrection they destroyed the status quo and changed forever the course of Irish history. Helena Molony and Sean Connolly rehearsed for rebellion, carried out rebellion and suffered the fatal and living conquesences of their participation.

Roscommon’s Anthony Keigher bursts onto our stage with his hilarious show DOUZE. In 2015 Pop Star XNTHONY set out for Eurovision glory. Armed with as many fizzy pop songs as he could muster, he and his backing singers, “The Penny Slots”, took Dublin by storm. They believed they were on the cusp of representing Ireland in the Eurovision in 2016.... Except they weren’t! But this Roscommon native won’t give up that easily. XNTHONY is making another comeback, equipped with a whole host of songs to convince you to support them… when they get there… eventually.

Ex-pupils invade a Dublin classroom to confront their former teacher, whose actions have had a profound effect on them. Now he must be called to account so that the past can be confronted and futures faced. This multi-layered drama takes the audience on an emotional roller-coaster where secrets are revealed and sacred cows held up to scrutiny; where young love is re-kindled and idealism endures. Playwright Jack Harte has a strong Roscommon connection, having grown up in Lanesboro and attended school in Ballyleague and Roscommon town. A former School Principal, he has written 24 English textbooks for Irish schools and a number of short stories and novels.

Based on the life of Canon James McDyer of Glencolmcille, this is a celebration of one man’s life, his work and his legacy. Fr. James spent years in London during the Second World War, tending to the needs of the emigrant Irish population. Returning to Ireland, he worked tirelessly against what he termed “the curse of emigration”, inspiring the community to help themselves, rather than rely on handouts from the State. A “Christian Communist”, who took his inspiration from the political turmoil and radical ideas of the early twentieth century.

Legendary Irish singer/songwriter Andy Irvine, with his impressive repertoire of Irish traditional songs and dexterous Balkan dance tunes, creates an exciting new fusion of Irish and World Music. He’s performed with bands such as Sweeney’s Men, Patrick Street, Planxty, and Mozaik as he continues to pursue new combinations and styles of music. He has broadened his musical horizons over the course of his forty-year career to encompass the musical styles of countries he visits, such as the Balkan folk style of playing. Between the achievements of his solo, group work and collaborations, he is a highly revered troubadour of the Irish music world. This Grammy-nominated, Irish-American group formed in 1985 to celebrate the rise of women in what had been a male-dominated Irish music scene and 30 years on they continue to tour the world delighting audiences with their spectacular blend of instrumental talents, beautiful vocals, captivating arrangements and stunning step dancing. RESERVATIONS:Reservations will be held pending payment until 48 hours before a performance. Group reservations are held until one week before a performance. In order to comply with fire regulations, each person, even babies, must have a valid ticket for performances. Please check your reservation at time of booking as there is room for human error and mistakes cannot always be rectified at a later stage.There are no refunds or exchanges on tickets, unless events are cancelled/re-scheduled. If you are unable to attend an event please contact us and we will endeavour to assist you.
