Jason Goodman was a student sent to the Construction Tech program in February of 2016 from HSA. Jason really wanted to learn the different trades in the Construction Industry. Mr. Macha says “ He was such an excellent student that I placed him with our

Community Partner Modern Air Mechanical learning the HVAC trade.” Jason trained in their shop for a month and did such a good job that Modern Air hired him full time and he is still working for them. Suzanne Roberts, the supervisor for Modern Air, constantly asks us to send her more students just like Jason!

Arkesha came to the Medical Office Administration program in August of 2016. Referred by Freddy Sandoval, she was one of the first students to go through this new program. Arkesha had recently

moved to Merced from St. Louis, Missouri and was settling into a new home in Merced with her family.

Arkesha already had a degree in Medical Assisting, so choosing to go into Front Office Medical seemed the logical choice for her. Arkesha finished up the course work and was placed at Dr. Spitzer’s office in Merced. In spite of the fact that she had to ride a bus across town to get to her internship site, Arkesha did an

awesome job! Dr. Spitzer’s office was going through some management changes, so hiring her was not possible.

Arkesha kept applying for any medical position she could find, but no luck. In April of 2017 Arkesha graduated from the Medical Office Administration program. At that point she had been applying for every and any position she could find. Arkesha applied at Amazon in Patterson. In May of 2017 she was hired by Amazon. Her issue was transportation

and she was able to car pool in order to get to work. By the next month, Arkesha had already purchased a car to get her

back and forth. Her determination paid off!

Laticia Chambers was referred by the CalWORKs program to the ROP Medical Office Administration class. She attended class from January 2017 to August 2017. She completed coursework such as: Medical Office Administration, Medical Terminology, ADAMS Coding & Reimbursement, Microsoft WORD,

EXCEL, and Outlook. Laticia was placed at Central Valley Cardiovascular Medical Group for her internship, where she learned hands on training in the medical office field. During her training at the Los Banos office, she was asked if she would like to train in their Turlock office where a position would be opening soon. She took the opportunity and was hired full time

by the time she completed the class.

Lucia came to the Computerized Office Technology program in November of 2016. She was referred by Koua Yang. After completing the competencies needed for the program, Lucia was ready for her internship in

May of 2017. She was placed at Farmers Insurance working for Miguel Soto. It didn’t take long for Lucia to show how capable and competent she was. She took it upon herself to go to the weekly flea markets in Merced to help promote the business. One Saturday she was

able to sign up 15 new accounts for Farmers. Miguel said that no one had ever accomplished that before! By the time her site hours were over and with the help of ESE, Lucia was able to become an employee of Miguel Soto Insurance!

Lucia graduated in July of 2017 with her Certificate of Completion.

Vanessa came to the Computerized Office Technology program in July of 2016 part-time. She was referred by Everardo Sahagun. On her referral, her goal was to find permanent employment in an office setting. Vanessa went through the course and by March of 2017, she was ready for an internship. Vanessa started working part-

time for Legal Support Net in Merced. During that time, she was able to practice skills she learned in class. Her site supervisor constantly made comments on how well she was doing and what a hard worker she was. She finished the internship in June of 2017. Due to her hard work and effort, she was offered a position in their office in Modesto. Although she was thankful for

the offer, Vanessa felt the commute would be difficult for her. Unfortunately she had to pass up her internship site’s job offer.

Vanessa graduated in July of 2017 with her Certificate of Completion. She went back to H.S.A and was able to work with the team of Jamie Gutiérrez, Amelia Cuen and her staff to find an employer closer to home who she could work for utilizing the ESE program. They were able to find her an office position in Delhi working for Castrejon Insurance Company. It looks like her goal

was met!

Missty Garcia was referred by the CalWORKs program to the ROP Computerized Office Technology class. She attended from January 2017 to July 2017. After completing most of the

coursework, Missty was placed at Department of Workforce Investment for her internship, where she learned hands on training in the office field. She is currently employed at Pizza Hut, while still searching for the perfect office position.

Avion came to the Accounting Occupations program in December of 2016. Adrian Espinosa referred Avion to the program. Avion soon found out that accounting was not for her, which is perfectly fine. Avion switched

to the Computerized Office Technology program. While in the program, she accomplished all she had set out to do. Becoming computer literate was a huge goal of Avion’s. Avion completed the curriculum very quickly. One of the nicest things about Avion was her sweet disposition.

She always had a smile on her face.

One of Avion’s roommates had recently been offered a

position at Amazon in Patterson. Avion had just started job searching and worked very hard on her resume and cover letters. She applied at Amazon and was hired in August of 2017. Avion and her roommate decided they could car pool to Patterson. Avion received her

Certificate of Completion the same month she was hired by Amazon!

Jennifer Ney began the Medical Assisting program in February of 2017, and brought with her a wide array of talents, as well as a bubbly, outgoing personality to match. Once placed in her internship at Merced

Chiropractic, she began improving the practices’ social media outreach, while also learning various therapies used in the clinic. After graduation, Jen was hired full time working in internal medicine with Dr. Butler!

Karina Partida began the Medical Assisting program in March of 2017. Not only did she balance being a full time mother with being an MA student, she also managed to complete the Merced Adult School

program and obtain her GED, all while performing her internship with Dr. Hylton’s office. Dr. Hylton was so impressed with Karina that she was hired before her internship was even completed!

On October 12, 2017 Norma Monroy (HSA), Cynthia Palomares (HSA), Kayla Youngblood (HSA), and Jeanette Cuadros (EMPOWER) staffed the MCOE-CAE booth at the San Joaquin Valley Drug Health Fair, providing blood pressure and glucose checks to the community of Planada. The students saw approximately 96 patients

between 3:00 pm and 7:30 pm, setting a record for the number of patients seen at that health fair.

On October 14, 2017 the same four students came together again, this time providing blood pressure checks at the Fourth Annual Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Health Fair, hosted

by El Portal Cancer Center. These students were proud to wear their pink and display their support for cancer patients and survivors in Merced and worldwide.
