Roman Britain• Great Britain was controlled by the Roman
Empire between 43 AD and 410 BC
• Caesar’s invasion in 55 and 54 BC was successful but inconclusive
• In 43 AD Claudius landed on the shores of England with his troops of 40,000 men

• Roman society was slave society, but free Celts weren’t turned into slaves
• They had to pay heavy taxes
• Romans gave to Britain roads, agriculture, big cities, culture, architecture, industry, law and language.

• Born on 12 or 13 July 100 BC in Rome
• Started the conquest of Gaul
• Reigned as dictator from October 49 BC- 15 March 44 BC
Queen Boudicca
• Queen Boudicca- queen of the Iceni tribe
• She led a revolt against the Roman rule
• Rebellion was put down
• Boudicca poisoned herself
Claudius
• Was born on 1 August 10 BC in Gaul
• He was the fourth Roman Emperor
• Started the conquest of Britain
Bath and Aquae Sulis
• A complex that was made for public bathing
• Was built by Celts at the site of a hot springs
• Was dedicated to goddess Sulis, for Romans Minerva.
Hadrians Wall
• Was bulit by emperor Hadrain in 122 AD• Made of stone and turffortification• Was bulit to save Roman Britain from
raiding Picts• A big amount of the wall still exists,
especially the mid-part
