Basantapur Education Society was established in 1995 under West Bengal Society's Reg-istrationAct 1961, vide Registration No S/80709 of 1995-96, keeping in view in meeting theneeds and demands of the know ledge seekers of the communities of Basantapur area and thedistrict of Murshidabad in particular and the rest of West Bengal and India as a whole in general.

It is the Education Society which is the Brain Child of the Son of the Soil, Litterateur andSocial Worker Dr Nazrul Islam, B Sc, M A, M B A, Ph D, and IPS. His dynamic leadershipand quality of thoughts and aspirations acted behind the screen of the Foundation of this Society.With a group of enthusiastic well-wishers and social workers of this locality and else where. DrNazrul Islam founded this Society in 1995 accordingly in fulfilling the great Vision and Mission inthis regard.

It can also be said that the Basantapur Education Society (BES) is the outcome of Dr.Islam's childhood experiences and hardships in education and dreams of quality of educationwhich drove him out from this remote and educationally backward areas to the great KolkataUrban Metropolice in search of higher and proper education.

The major aims and objectives of Basantapur Education Society:Vision:Basantapur Education Society will foster the spirit in building up the quality of human

resources through all round development of the area through proper, effective and need-baseEducation keeping in view the changed global outlook.

Mission:As education is the emancipation from ignorance, the Basantapur Education Society will

reach the message of education to the grass-root level of the society through a planned programmeof Curricula and Syllabi with the following other Missions:

I) To provide a better educational environment;II) To make the students in understanding the social problems;ill) To develop an environmental awareness;IV) To feel the emergent needs of the Society;V) To feel the need of the value-base education keeping in view the erosion of values in

It has also procured the required land for the establishment of a medical college ( MurshidabadMedical College) and a University (Murshidabad University).

The Education College (B Ed and M.Ed. Courses) is run as per the Norms and Guidelinesframed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) Act, 1993 (73 of 1993), Govt.of India, the University of Kalyani and the Govt of West Bengal with a proper Recognition fromthe NCTE and having an affiliation to the University of Kalyani accordingly.

4.1 PreambleTeacher preparation course for secondary education, generally known as B.Ed., is a profes-sional course that prepares teachers for upper primary/middle level (classes VI-VII), secondary(classes IX-X) and senior secondary classes (Xl-XII) levels.

4.1.1 This B Ed course has been launched in giving the shape of the following Aimsand Objectives ofthe Teacher Education.

1) With the aim to impart quality education for the Pre-service and In-service teachers ofSecondary and Higher Secondary levels of education;

Il) To acquaint with the developments of the professional skills in performing the betterteaching environment in the classroom situation;

ill) To enrich the professional excellence of the Secondary and Higher Secondary teachersin teaching different school subjects;

IV) To understand professional responsibilities, comments and required performances of theteachers in the Indian context;

V) To acquaint with the nature, purpose and inner philosophy of the Secondary and HigherSecondary Education in India keeping in view of the emergent problems and issues inschool education in particular and total education in general;

VI) To make the teachers understand and appreciate the roles of teacher in shaping IndianSociety;

Vll) To raise the level of confidence of teachers in class room teaching;VIII) Tohelp the teacher in all-round development of the children in differentdirections through

their teaching behaviors;IX) To help the teacher in changing the students' behaviors in achieving the ultimate goals of

education; andX) Toknow the child, his/her potentialities, talents, interests, growth of personalities through

successive stages and to help the parents and concerned students in deciding the courseof studies at the crucial Secondary and Higher Secondary stages.

4.2 Duration and working days

4.2.1 DurationB Ed Programme shall be of duration of at least one academic year (lstJulyto 30th June)

4.2.2 Working Daysa) There shall be at least two hundred working days each year exclusive of period of

examination and admission etc, out of which at least 40 days shall be for practiceteaching in about 10 schools at upper primary / secondary / senior secondary levels.

b) A working week shall be of a minimum of thirty six hours in a five or six days' week,during which physical presence in the Institution of teachers and student teachers isnecessary to ensure their availability for individual advice, guidance, dialogues andconsultation as and when needed.

5. Intake, Eligibility and Admission Procedure

5.1 IntakeThere shall be basic unit of 1()()students, generally divided into two sections of 50 eachfor general sessions and not more than 25 students per teachers for a school subject formethods and other practical activities of the programme to facilitate participatory teach-ing and learning, as the case may be.

5.2 Eligibility5.2.1 Candidates with at least 50% Marks either in the Bachelor Degree and/or in the Master

Degree or any other qualification equivalent thereto are eligible for admission to theprogramme.

5.2.2 The reservation for SC/ST categories shall be as per the rules of the Central Govern-ment/State Government, whichever is applicable. There shall be relaxation of 5% marksin favour of SC/ST categories of candidates (Seats for Home and Other Universities85% and 5% respectively; Management Quota seats (10%).85% seats is to be dividedinto two parts for deputed & fresher candidates.

5.3 Admission ProcedureAdmission shall be made on merit on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examinationsas per the policy of the State College Administration and the University.

5.3.1 Admission Procedure for B Ed Course (freshers): Session 2010 -2011Admission will be given on the basis of scores against marks obtained in qualifying ex-amination and as per the norms of State Govt. and NCTE. Scores against marks fordifferent levels of examinations will be as follows:

6. Curriculum Transaction (As per the AcademicOrdinance of lASE / Univeristy of Kalyani, 2004)

6.1 Duration

The duration of the course is one academic year.

6.2 Medium of Instruction

The medium of instruction is English or Bengali.

6.3 Curriculum Transaction Hour

A minimum period of 100 teaching hours is to be provided for each of the ten papers of thecourse to each of the teacher-students. Thus each student teacher will get the scope of totalperiods of minimum 1000 teaching hours for curriculum transaction of the course during theacademic session.

tion (PE) or Social Education (SE) as one of the special papers.V) Students (Arts / Commerce / Social Science students) who have advance knowledge in

Science and Technology can opt for Environmental Education, if they think so.

Method Papers-VI & VII (Two)I) The 1sr Method (VI paper) will be restricted to that candidate who had school subjects

like Bengali, English, History, Geography, Life Science, (ZoologylBotanylPhysiology) Math-ematics and Economics at UGIPG level.

II) The 2nd Method (VII) will be chosen only among School Subject offered at UGIPG level.III) Students other than the above categories will be allowed to take Work Education as 2nd

Method (Paper- VII) as there is no other alternative way; if there is more number ofclaimants in Work Education as per the norms stipulated by the University of Kalyani/NCTE, selection will be made on the basis of the total scores/College test on the secondsubject (Work Education).

VI) Teacher candidates, coming from the practicing Schools, may not be within these limita-tions.

7. Eligibility Norms for appearing in the FinalExamination (As per the norms of KUIIASE-2004)

To become eligible for appearing at the final examination of the course, each student-teachershould fulfillthe followingnorms:

7.1 Collegiate Candidatea. Should keep at least 75% attendance in the theoretical papers.b. Should complete all the practical and other related assignments including the contents

based practical and teaching practice and submission of practical note book/workdiary/materials/documentsllesson plans etc.

7.2 Non-Collegiate CandidateShould keep at least 60% attendance in the theoretical papers and complete the NORMB of the Collegiate Candidate.

7.3 Discollegiate CandidateIf any candidate fails to keep minimum 60% attendance in the theoretical papers or fails tofulfil NORM-7 .l.(b) of the Collegiate candidate or both will be treated as discollegiatecandidate and will not be allowed to appear at the final examination.

7.4 Casual CandidateIf any Collegiate or Non-Collegiate candidate fails to appear or fails to qualify in the finalexamination of the current session he/she may be allowed to sit for any of the next con-secutive two years in final examinations with the permission of the university authority as acasual candidate.

8.1 TheoreticalTime for written examination 3 hours for the paper of 100 full marks and 2 hours for thepaper up to 50 marks.

8.2 Practicum on Method Subject:a) Lab Prac. - 4 hours (2 hours for each area)b) Book review + Teaching Aids - 4 hoursc) Achievement test - 2 hoursPracticurn activities shall be examined jointly by an External and Internal examiners, bothappointed by the concerned authority ofKU. Average oftwo marks shall be the finalmarks of a candidate.

8.3 Final Practice Teachinga) Joint evaluation to be performed by HODlPrincipallTeacher-in-Charge, one external

examiner to be appointed by authority of KU. Average of two marks given by theabove two evaluation shall be the final mark of a candidate.

b) At least lO(ten) minutes time for examining final teaching tasks in each subject shouldbe allocated for each examinee and one full day shall be devoted for examining all thecandidates placed in a practising school.

8.4 Graduation and CertificationStudent Teachers will be qualified for the Degree of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) on thebasis of the following norms:

8.4.1 Passed Candidate:Candidate having the minimum qualifying marks of 40% in each of the ten papers of theCourse will be declared as the passed candidate with:First Class: Obtaining total marks 60% and above,

Second Class: Obtaining total marks 45% and above but below 60%,

Candidate having below the qualifying marks of 40% in one or more paper(s) of thecourse will be treated as failed candidate. If there is any change made by KUIIASEagainst the items/Cl Nos 6, 7 and 8, the same will be notified accordingly.

9.1 The total course fees is Rs. 32,500/- covering Admission fees, Development Fee, LibraryFee, Tuition Fee, Lab. Fee, for methods subjects including Work Education.

9.2 Over and above the total Course fees, there will be a Caution Deposit for each studentand a Computer Fee for the candidates who opt for computer education as a SpecialPaper (5th paper). Fees once deposited will not be refunded. Only the Caution Depositwill be refunded to those who will complete the course. The total involvement of moneyfor caution deposit and Computer Education fees will be within Rs. 5,500/- (Approxi-mately), this will be notified later on . Over and above, Rs. 20/- will be charged for PhotoIdentity Card.

All the student -teachers shall have to abide by the Rules and Regulations of the College,the University, NCTE, Government and all other relevant Authorities. Violation of anyform will be punishable even by expulsion.

Leave of Deputed Trainees: During training period only 10 days c.L. may be allowedto the deputed teacher. After that for any excess leave taken the pay will be cut off as perrule.

12. Filling up the APPLICATION FORM/or Admission to Bachelor 0/Education (B Ed) course 2010-2011: The Procedures and Formalities

12.1 Fill up all the columns, as per Instructions given, by the candidate's Own HANDWRITING

12.2 NO ENCLOSURES are allowed at the time of submission of the Application Form(Not even any Passport Size Photo). Only Alc Payee DD ofRs. 300/- on the Bank ofBaroda/SBI in favour of Basantapur Education Society will be enclosed by the appli-cant who will collect the Form from the Website.

12.3 While filling up the Form, OVER-WRITINGS, in any form, will not be considered.12.4 After having the Application Forms-All the Forms will be scrutinized thoroughly. A

FULL MERIT LIST with WAITING LIST will be published.12.5 "Inany things found illegible in the Form/or not properly filled up/or not according to the

instructions given/or not as per the Rules and Regulations of the UniversitylNCTE, orany false s'atement, theApplication Form will summarily be REJECTED.

12.6 At the time of admission, if there is/are FALSE STATEMENT/S found, his/her namewill be struck off from the List.

12.7 If any query/doubt in filling up the forms arises, the candidate can contact CollegeAuthority/Administrationaccordingly.

12.8 Incomplete Application Form will be REJECTED.12.9 Xerox Form ofApplication in any nature should be avoided. NO ADMISSION will be

Programme related Admission-

The Application Form for Admission may be collected from the Education College,Basantapur Education Society's Basantapur Office Board of the College.

The list of selected and wait-listed candidates will be displayed in the Notice Board ofthe College. The candidates will have to get themselves admitted by the last datefixed.

If a candidate fails to get himself/herself admitted by the date fixed, his/her candidaturewill be forfeited and the seat will be offered to the next candidate.

The candidates will have to know their selection and the last date of admission fromthe Notice Board. They will not be informed of these separatively.

Any mistake detected in preparing the lists or admitting a candidate, may be correctedwhen detected.

The College is situated in the Educational Complex of Basantapur Education society, 2 kmsaway from the Dumkal Sub-Division town on the Berhampore-J alangi Main Road. There aredirect state and Private Luxury Bus services to Dumkal from Kolkata. Berhampore, Durgapore,Karimpur, Malda, Suri, Bolpur and Sainthia. The nearest railway station is Berhampore Courtof Sealdah-Lalgola line and Khagra Ghat of Howrah-Malda line. The private bus and trekkerservices to Dumkal from Berhampore, Jalangi etc are frequent.
