Thank you We continue to be amazed with our Ardagh community and your generosity in donating so many great books to our library. We are adding these donations to school and classroom libraries and giving others to students and charities. Thank you to Jordyn H, Emma T, Alyx M and Mr. Weller for your great donations. My apologies if I missed you this month. Let me know if I missed you and I’ll correct it for December.
Our first Scholastic Book Fair is coming up in December. Classroom
visit schedules and after school visits will be posted in December. Last year, your purchases made it possible to add over $1,500 in new books into our library. Most of these were selected by students for the students. Any suggestions or comments … email
[email protected] Greg Harris, Teacher
Librarian.
Thanks Bengal Families and Teachers for supporting
our library through our McDonalds and Chapters
night. About 20 books were donated from Chapters
to our library and we raised $910. We will have an
amount from McDonalds soon.
A big thank you to Rachel and Jordyn for working at
the craft table all evening
Did you know, just 34 days until the Scholastic Book
Fair?

Flag Football TeamFlag Football TeamFlag Football TeamFlag Football Team
This year’s flag football season was very successful. Our team progressed throughout the season and worked as a team. We had an extremely wet regional tournament where we came close to winning our first game, we won our second game and lost our final game. The coaches were proud that the team played right to the last whistle, even though victory was no longer possible. Thank you to all parents who were able to drive our Bengals to the games and tournament. It really touched as that many parents and players personally thanked us for our time and for coaching. Thanks to our teammates for a great season, Taylor F, Natalie T, Baily P, Alisha S, Jacob M, Emma S, Malcolm M, Melanie B, Emily Q, Jake T, Gavin M, Harrison H, Liam H, Anthony P, Jerzie J, Lauren E, Alex K, Jack S, Nick W, Kyle P, Destiny A, Paul M, and Michael B x 2

Your health is in your hands - just remember to wash them! A simple thing like a handshake is a warm welcome to a friend – but it’s also sometimes an invitation to germs. In fact, your hands play a major role in the spread of bacteria and viruses that can cause illness. Think about the things you do each day that brings you into contact with germs – going to the washroom, touching pets and taking out the garbage. You may have touched food, a telephone, a door knob or money. The list is endless and so are the ways you can pick up and pass along bacteria and viruses that can make you and others sick.
Hand washing is the best way to prevent illness. It’s not new, but it works because it removes dirt and germs before they can find their way into our bodies. Proper hand washing is essential in protecting your health.

Changes to Elementary Report Cards
The provincial government has updated elementary report cards to align with changes in the curriculum. The
changes are minor and reflect changes to the curriculum in the following areas:
• French as a Second Language (Grades 1 to 8) Changes: the three areas of evaluation (Oral
Communication, Reading, and Writing) were changed to four areas: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and
Writing. Report cards will now list these four areas.
• Social Studies, History and Geography in Elementary (Grades 1 to 6) Changes: two areas of study were
renamed: Heritage and Citizenship to Heritage and Identity, and Canada and World Connections to People
and Environments.
Reporting the Arts in Elementary (Grades 1 to 8) Changes: all four areas of study for the Arts (Dance, Drama,
Music, and Visual Arts) now have a box to indicate if the subject was taught in French.
For more information, and to see examples of the report cards, visit http://
www.edu.gov.on.ca and search for ‘Report Cards’ in the upper right search box.
Bus Cancellation Information in Case of Inclement Weather
Although fall has recently arrived, winter is just around the corner in Simcoe County. With it comes the possibility of severe weather, challenging winter driving conditions and, as a result, possible bus and school event cancellations. All information regarding cancelled buses in Simcoe County is posted on the Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium’s bus information website at www.simcoecountyschoolbus.ca. Our school is in the CENTRAL zone. When buses are cancelled, please remember that schools are still open (unless otherwise noted) for student learning. The Consortium, in conjunction with bus operators, will make the decision to cancel school buses before 6 a.m. and as such, will make every effort to post announcements between 6 and 7 a.m. Parents should also note that inclement weather cancellations are effective for the whole day and buses cancelled in the morning will not run at the end of the day. You can also subscribe to receive bus delay notifications, go to https://scstc.ca/Subscriptions and you can follow the Consortium on Twitter @SCSTC_SchoolBus.

Participate in the 2014 Ontario Child Health Study and
School Mental Health Surveys The 2014 Ontario Child Health Study is underway and will provide
vital information about the mental health needs of children and youth living in Ontario today. This study will be the first of its kind
in Canada to examine the influence of family, community and
school environments on child and youth mental health. The results will be used to develop programs and services to improve
the mental health of young people in Ontario. From October 2014 to May 2015, Statistics Canada will be inviting
7,000 families with children aged 4 -17 to complete an interview in their home. At the same time, McMaster researchers will be
conducting School Mental Health Surveys in 240 Ontario schools
to help us learn new ways of promoting and addressing student mental health needs.
Let's make our province a better place for children and youth. If invited to participate, please say ‘yes’ to the
2014 Ontario Child Health Study and School Mental Health
Surveys.
