NSW 2021 RMS has clear accountabilities contributing to the following NSW State Plan goals:

Goal 7 - Reduce travel times Goal 8 - Grow patronage on public

Considerations: Strategic influences

• Draw on the NSW Long Term Transport Master Plan and Regional Transport Plans to develop our overarching strategy.

• Congestion is a major issue in NSW. Direct and indirect cost in terms of time, money and impact on the economy.

• About 75 per cent of interstate freight movements in Australia access NSW Roads. • The cost of congestion to the NSW economy is estimated to be $5.1 billion each year – or nearly

$1100 for every person in Sydney. • By 2020, it is expected to rise to $8.8 billion as NSW’s population grows and as travel increases. • Part of Roads and Maritime’s role is supporting infrastructure for future needs.
