VA1VESKvaerner Hydro is the organisation within KvaernerBrug A/S of Norway, which is concerned with HydroElectric Power and Water Control applications and itssubsidiaries Sorumsand Verksted A/S in Norway,NOHAB-KMW Turbin AB in Sweden, Kvaerner HydroPower Inc. in the U.S.A. and Boving & Co. Limitedand Boving Newton Chambers Ltd., in the UnitedKingdom.
Kvaerner Brug is one of the main companies of theprivately owned Kvaerner Industrier A/S, which isamongst the largest industrial groups in Norway, withactivities ranging from oil and gas to fish processingand environmental protection as well as shipping andshipbuilding.
The operation of all the Kvaerner Hydro companiesis closely co-ordinated and the technology andexperience of each is available to all. Our productsinclude:

Since 1848, when our first turbine was delivered,Kvaerner Hydro companies have deliveredthousands of hydro turbines, totalling over 80,000MW in output. Continuous improvement anddevelopment enables us to offer all types of hydroturbines and associated mechanical equipment of themost modern design for the smallest to the largestprojects.
Hydraulic and mechanical research, developmentand design is carried out in our modern laboratoriesand by experienced engineers using the latestcomputer techniques.
Brochures giving descriptions of our laboratoryfacilities and of all our products are available onrequest.
VALVESWe produce these valves for a variety of dutiesincluding turbine, pump and draft tube isolation andpenstock protection.
Spherical ValvesTo date we have produced these valves in diametersfrom 0.5 to 3.2 metres for heads up to 1,265 metres.The valves are supplied with upstream ordownstream service seals and when required, withmaintenance seals which allow the service seals tobe maintained with the valve in situ and theupstream waterway pressurized. Depending on theapplication, specification and head, the valves areavailable with rubber or metal seals.
The rubber service seals can be flexible orexpandable depending on the head and the metalseals can be sliding or flexible depending on thespecification and/or the customers preference.
Lattice Blade Butterfly ValvesTo date we have produced these valves in diametersfrom 1.37m to 5.49 metres for heads up to 306metres. The valves are normally supplied with asingle flexible rubber seal and when required with asliding maintenance seal which allows thedownstream seal to be maintained with the valve insitu and the upstream waterway pressurized.
ActuationBoth types of valve are normally actuated byhydraulic servomotors utilizing either the systemwater pressure or using pressure oil from anindependent pumping set or alternatively the turbinepumping set. The servomotors can be conventionaliinier floor mounted units acting via a lever on thevalve or toriodal units mounted directly on the valve.
