Kvaerner Hydra Power has supplied trash rack cleaningequipment for 2:5 years, and has now developed a range ofroibjst and easy to use equipment for dealing effectivelywith debris of all kinds. Noted for large capacity andminimum maintenance, these units feature a flexible designwhich allows them to be tailored to the specificrequirements of each power station.They are one-man operated from a control cabin. Two ofthe models in the range run on guide rails to cover allracks along the dam.The whole unit rotates once the rack has been raised todeposit trash easily to the rear for removal by trailer.All important components are enclosed, while stainless steelis extensively used. Rotating or moving parts utilise ball orself-lubricating bearings.Although this is a veiry flexible range we do offer speciallydesigned units to suit unusual situations.

Type GSE 3000This electrically-driven model provides a cleaning width ofthree metres and a rack clearance during lowering of1,200mm.

Power system- rake hoist driven by electric motor- turnable tower can be rotated through 360° by electric

motor

- operation of rake jaw mounted on the hoist frame by asingle double-acting hydraulic cylinder.

Hydraulic power packThis unit comprises an oil tank with electrically-controlledvariable hydraulic pump.

System controlThe power units are remotely controlled by hand-operatedlever potentiometers placed in the control cabin.The system can also be remotely operated from a smallhand-held control unit if required.

Type GEXThis model uses the same components and operating

equipment as the GSE 3000, but has been speciallydesigned for installation where space is limited andtherefore does not offer the same operating facilities.Available for cleaning widths up to seven metres, this unithas its operating equipment mounted on a steel framewhich can either be fixed to the concrete or mounted onwheels for travelling along the dam.

Type GSH 3300The largest type of KvEerner Hydro Power's range of trashrakes, this unit provides 1,700mm of rake clearance and acleaning width of 3.3 metres. It also features steplesshydraulic control.

Hydraulic system- hydraulic axial piston motor for rake hoist- turnable tower ratable through 360° by a hydraulic

axial piston motor- hydraulic operation of rake jaw mounted on the hoist

frame by one double-action hydraulic cylinder.

Hydraulic power packThis unit comprises an 0.4 cubic metre oil tank with theelectrically controlled variable hydraulic pump driven by anelectric motor.Other items mounted on the power pack enclosure includea thermostatically controlled heating element to avoid oiltank condensation and a low level trip to protect againstdamage due to possible oil loss.

System controlMaximum! efficiency in terms of power consumption isachieved with an electric system for remote control of thehydraulic pump via hand-operated lever potentiometersplaced in the contol cabin.The degree of movement on the hand controls translatesdirectly into increased or decreased hoist or swing speeds.Remote control from a small hand-held unit is alsoavailable.Ramp functions incorporated in the electrics will thenautomatically set upper limits to oil flow to preventoverloading of the oil pump motor.

Gates & PenstocksSince the design, delivery and installation of our

first gate in 1880, we have supplied most types ofgates ranging in size from 200mm to 38.6m span toover 50 countries. We have produced penstocks in awide variety of diameters with wall thicknesses up to90m in high tensile steels for static heads up to1186m.

ValvesIn addition to lattice blade butterfly and spherical

valves for turbine isolation and penstock protection,we produce a variety of different types of valves fora wide range of water control duties.
