Installing and Configuring the Device Aggregator

Revised: November 29, 2010, OL-23358-01

This chapter includes information on installing, connecting and configuring the Device Aggregator (DA). The DA is the device that terminates all the networked telemetry components and responds to requests from the Cisco HealthPresence Client (CHPPC) to:

• send medical data, either as static information or as streaming video/audio, and

• provide device status

Note This chapter applies to the Attendant Pods.

• Configuring the Device Aggregator Software Stack, page 5-3

• Configuring the Device Aggregator, page 5-12

• Reconfiguring the BIOS, page 5-15

Caution Do not power up the DA until you have connected all components.

Installing the Device AggregatorTo install the DA, complete the following steps.

Step 1 Place the DA on the shelf where it is to reside.

Tip The exact position of the DA in the Pod can vary in installations depending upon which furniture is used. When placing the DA on the shelf, ensure that both sides and the cabling are easily accessible for future servicing.

Step 2 Label the cords for the DA to facilitate easy identification for when attaching the USB adapters from devices into the back of the DA.

Step 3 Connect the medical devices to the DA.

Tip The medical devices have dedicated USB ports. Connect them to the correct USB ports according to AMD product documentation. Since USB port connections vary, it is important to refer to the AMD diagram contained in the shipping box for each model being installed.

Figure 5-1 shows sample USB port connections to a DA in a Cisco HealthPresence Solution. As noted, always refer to the AMD diagram for accurate USB connections.

Figure 5-1 Device Aggregator in Cisco HealthPresence Solution

Step 4 Connect the DA to the local network, where the codec and CHPC are also connected, by inserting an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the back of the PC.

Step 5 Continue to procedure Configuring the Device Aggregator Software Stack.

Note Ideally, the USB ports to which the three devices (Welch-Allyn, otoscope, and video camera) are attached should be configured, as highlighted in Figure 5-1. If the devices were plugged in differently or changed from one port to another, see Triaging the USB Device Drivers on the DA (optional), page 6-12.

Configuring the Device Aggregator Software StackConfiguring the DA software stack for the medical device requires accessing an AMD website to edit file PodData.xml and then installing the modified file on the C:/ of the DA. Ensure that you transfer file PodData.xml to the DA, and use the DA information to complete the web form.

To configure the DA software stack, complete the following steps.

Step 1 Open a web browser and navigate to the following AMD URL:

http://AmdGlobal.net/support/updates

Step 2 Log in to the AMD website by entering appropriate login information as documented in the CHP Network Implementation Plan:

• Username = AMD_userid

• Password = AMD_password

The AMD screen displays, as shown in Figure 5-2.

Step 3 If any pod in this enterprise connects to the network via satellite, upgrade this DA’s software by clicking on Download Agness 1.5.3. Otherwise, skip to Step 4.

Note If you upgrade one of the DAs to 1.5.3, you must upgrade all of them to 1.5.3.

Note Agnes Version 1.5.1 must already be installed on the PC you are upgrading. If it isn’t, upgrade to Agnes 1.5.1 and then following the steps below.

a. Click on Run when prompted to run or save this file.

b. Click Run again when prompted to run this software.

c. Select Repair AMD VitalSigns, as illustrated in Figure 5-3. Then click Finish.

d. Click Close to exit.

e. Return to the AMD Device menu as illustrated in Figure 5-2 and continue.

Step 4 Complete the top half of this menu by entering the following values:

• Hostname = hostname of the DA

To determine the DA’s hostname, run command ipconfig /all at the command prompt on the DA.

• IP Address = IP address of the DA

• Agnes Serial Number = Serial number of the DA

Note To determine the serial number of the DA, locate the sticker on the top front of the HP Tower, as shown in Figure 5-4.

Step 6 Complete the Devices portion of the menu by entering the values for each audio and video device set, as follows:

• Device Type = Otoscope, Exam Camera, and Stethoscope

• Description = Name of the medical device

• Serial Number = Serial number particular to each medical device

Note Since these are AMD-specific medical devices, the Welch-Allyn Spot Vital Signs Lxi is not included in this step.

Physically examine each medical device to determine its serial number. For example, look at the scope end of otoscope (Figure 5-6), as well as the bottom of the Exam Camera (Figure 5-7).

Note Ensure you have a copy of the Installation Spreadsheet available before starting this procedure. (See Appendix A, “Installation Spreadsheet” for an example of the spreadsheet.)

To configure the DA, complete the following steps.

Step 1 Connect the following components to the DA, which can be the same components from the CHP PC:

• video monitor

• keyboard

• mouse

Step 2 Ensure that the DA is powered off. Plug the power cord of the DA into a wall outlet.

Step 3 Turn on the DA by pressing the switch located under the power plug in the back of the DA.

Step 4 Unscrew the front panel of the DA. Turn on the power switch at the front of the DA.

A glowing green power light indicates that the DA is operating. The monitor displays the standard Windows screen when the DA is powered on.

Step 9 Referring to the HealthPresence Network Implementation Plan spreadsheet, change fields IP address and Subnet mask to match the specified values.

Step 10 Change field Default gateway to match the IP address of the local router.

Note Do not change the IP address of the Domain Name System (DNS) server unless the installation site uses a DNS with appropriate services and the IP addresses do not match the site’s DNS server information. If there is a mismatch, click radio button Use the following DN server address, and update the fields appropriately.

Step 11 Restart the PC.

Step 12 After the PC reboots (which can involve multiple automatic Windows updates), enable remote access.

Chapter 5 Installing and Configuring the Device Aggregator Reconfiguring the BIOS

Reconfiguring the BIOSReconfiguring the basic input/output system (BIOS) is required if it had not been properly configured on the DA. Cisco recommends checking that the BIOS had been configured by unplugging the DA and plugging it back in to ensure DA powers up with a login prompt without having to push the power button on the chassis.

If the DA fails this check, reconfigure BIOS by completing the following steps.

Step 1 Reboot the PC.

Step 2 Drop into BIOS. (Press the key indicated on the screen during the DA start-up process. Note that the process for dropping into BIOS can vary among PCs.)

Step 3 Navigate to the BIOS menu options and locate the Power State after Power Failure option.

Step 4 Set the option to Power On, indicating that power is to be restored.

Step 5 Save the BIOS configuration.

Step 6 Reboot the system.

Step 7 Continue to procedure Validating the BIOS.

Validating the BIOSTo validate the BIOS after you have configured it on the DA, complete the following steps.

Step 1 Unplug the PC.

Step 2 Plug the PC back in.

Step 3 Assess whether the PC powers up without manually pushing the Power button on the chassis.

You have completed the procedures associated with Installing and Configuring the Device Aggregator.
