My dear friends in Christ,

Our first reading today is such a downer! Job wallows in misery. Luckily, by the end of the Book of Job, he has found resolution to his thought-provoking questions and receives God’s reward. Sometimes we as clergy or lay ministers are discouraged, depressed, or just plain tired, and don’t feel like getting up on Sunday morning to be God’s minister. Yet, we have a calling from God, just as Jesus did. The Apostle Paul had that same calling as he addressed the Corinthians: “Although I am free in regard to all, I have made myself a slave to all so as to win over as many as possible. To the weak I became weak, to win over the weak. I have become all things to all, to save at least some. All this I do for the sake of the gospel, so that I too may have a share in it. In our Gospel, Jesus touched and healed the woman. With our faith commitment and prayer, we too can touch people, and win people over.

Last week there was an insert in the bulletin encouraging you to consider joining the music ministry. We did get some responses. Hey, some is better than nothing. I will be appealing for help in other ministries in our parish in the upcoming weeks which will lead to our Ministry Fair in April. Of course I am very grateful for all who volunteer in ministry. If you are not involved and would like to be, don’t be discouraged because maybe you feel you couldn’t or shouldn’t. There is a place for everyone. So, get up and get ministering! It is a blessing to be called to ministry!
