I really liked how this book is laid out.
Section 1 destroys the common mindsets thatmiddle managers often have towards being anofficial "leader" (higher than they are
now). Upper management have differentchallenges, and there's no magic decree thatmakes them expert leaders when they arepromoted. Section 2 takes a deeper look intothe special challenges of being "in the middle" of
an organization. Many things are expected fromboth directions (and from your peers), and itfeels like you don't have the authority to lead asyou'd like.

But rather than just leave you floundering there, Maxwell
covers how 360-Degree leader is manifested in all
directions... Section 3 how to lead your boss and uppermanagement by learning to lead yourself(Lead up),
Section 4 how to interact with your peers to build astronger overall team(Lead across), and Section 5 how
to lead those who officially look to you for direction(Leaddown). The last direction can be hard, as you may have
the title but not the respect and trust of your
subordinates. If you strive to become the leader that
Maxwell describes, you'll find that people willingly alignthemselves with you and your leadership "selling" is far
easier...

The 360 degree Leaderstarts with the 7 myths believedby many people who lead from the middle of
organizations, followed by the 7 challenges, the9 principles to lead up, the 7 principles to leadacross, and the 7 principles to lead down. The 360degree Leader explains clearly that leadership is
important for everyone at every level of an organization
(i.e. lead up, lead across and lead down); leadership is
about influence instead of position. Influence means tobecome a person whom people will want to follow.

1. Lead-Up:Leading up is the process of influencing a leader. This process includes
lightening the leaders loadby being willing to do what others wont, while
knowing when to push forward and when to back off.
2. Lead-Across:Leaders in the middle of an organization are leaders of leaders.These leaders help peers achieve positive results, let the best idea win,
and garner mutual respect. These leaders must develop and
maintain credibility, and continually exert influence.
3. Lead-Down:Leaders at the top who lead down and help people realize their potential,become a strong role model, and encourage others to become part of
a higher purpose. This involves walking through the halls, transferringthe vision, and rewarding for results

The book is packed with a lot of information, but it's all
very practical and applicable. The premise of 360-
Degree leader is that you don't become a leader whenyou're promoted into a position with the title. You
become a leader when people start to follow you. It
doesn't matter where you are in the organization, as
you'll always be leading in an upward direction (to
your superiors), an outward direction (to yourpeers), and a downward direction (to those whoreport to you). By using this book to understand thetrue meaning of leadership, you can start to hone your
skills in your current environment, thereby building thebridges and relationships you'll need going forward.

I believe a worth collectable book should consist two factors. The
first factor is it should be interesting enough as a story book thatattract your attention unconsciously, in such ways that the reading
process is relax and enjoyable. The second factor is the content of
the book should be useful enough as a dictionary that contains
useful information to benefit the development of your interested
areas .Maxwell does include all the above mentioned factors. After
reading The 360 degree Leaderby John C. Maxwell, I have labeledit as one of my worth collectable books. I am very appreciated to
have one copy of The 360 degree leader that gave me new
insights and helped me re-call the vital ideas to improve my life
from time to time in the future.
