RETURN TO LEARN PLANGETTYSBURG AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT
GOAL OF REOPENING PLAN
To reopen schools and resume instruction safely and equitably
CONSIDERATIONS FOR REOPENING
Reopen responsibly, in order to remain open A single plan that can be utilized
in both green and yellow phasesStrategies/procedures that are
reasonable and sustainable
HEALTH & SAFETY PLAN
CLEANING, SANITIZING, DISINFECTING & VENTILATION
Daily disinfecting and sanitizing of all areas, including busses and vans, paying particular
attention to high traffic areas, on a daily basis
In addition to daily disinfecting and sanitizing
practices, weekly enhanced cleaning and sanitization in all
district buildings
HVAC systems will run on extended schedules to
increase ventilation
TRANSPORTATION
Two students per seat with masks when riding on a
school bus or vehicle
Transportation of complete families
Parents may voluntarily transport students to and
from school
TEACHING & LEARNING
Alternating days for students (M/W, T/TH)Remote learning every Friday for students
for all students
Daily face-to-face instruction for students
with complex needs

The district will reassess options after the first marking period.
100% online learning options for families through the Gettysburg Area Virtual
Academy (provider is VLN) Also an option provided by
GASD staff
Limiting the number of individuals in classrooms and
other learning spaces, and interactions between groups

Adjust district calendar to allow for five Act 80 days for professional development in
lieu of instructional days (First day of school for
students - August 26, 2020)

STUDENT HEALTH
The district will implement protocols to provide
appropriate safeguards to prevent and mitigate the
spread of infectious disease
Home temperature and symptom screening by
parents/ guardians
Build time in school day to provide regular, consistent
reminders about the importance of handwashing and other infectious disease
preventive measures
Addressing symptomatic individuals using a standard
set of requirements and procedures in conjunction
with the DOH
Accommodating students and staff with high-risk factors
Face covering guidelines as issued from time to time by the State Department of Health or Department of Education will be followed to the
greatest degree feasible to support our educational model. Students will be required to wear face coverings when within 6 feet of others, with exceptions
as required by law. Students will be encouraged to bring their own face coverings, however, the district will make face coverings available for
student use.

Students will have increased recess time. Recess will be staggered, to ensure social distancing and limit contact between students. Playground equipment will be sanitized between uses.
ELEMENTARY

Students will remain in one classroom with the same group of students for most classes, including unified arts, to limit number of students in the hallways and restrict interactions between groups of students.

Students will move throughout the building to access their scheduled classes. Students will be required to wear face coverings during transitions.
