How does the test work?therearetwochambersinthedeviceandonlymotilespermcanmovefromonechamberintotheother.onceinthesecondchamberthespermarestainedwithadyewhichproducesthe colourintheresultwindow.themoremotilesperminthesample,thestrongerthebluecolourwillbe.

My sample did not become thin and watery within 30 min, - what should I do?Somesamplestakemorethan30mintoliquefy(tobecomethin andwatery)andyoucanwaitlongerifneeded.Ifyoursamplehasnotliquefiedwithin3hours,thenitisbetternottotestusingthissample.Discardyoursample,rinseoutthecollectioncupwithjustwaterandleavetodry.Donotusesoap.

What may affect sperm motility?thereareanumberoffactorsthatcanaffectyoursperm quality:

• Ifyouhaverecently(inthelast2-3months)beenunwellparticularlyifyouhavehadahighfever,thismayaffectyourspermquality.Itisthereforebettertowaituntilyouarewellbeforeretestingyourspermquality.

• Ifyouhavebeentakinganabolicsteroidsorother medicationcontainingtestosterone.

• Yourpreviousmedicalhistorysuchas: -Undescendedtesticlesasababy -Varicocele(swollenveinsinthetesticles) -Groinsurgerysuchasherniarepair -mumpsinadulthood -treatmentforcancer

What if I want to re-test?Youcantestagainwithanewkitaslongasyouwaitatleast48hours afterthefirsttest.Ifyouwanttoseeapossiblechangeinyourspermqualityafterlifestylechanges,youshouldwaitatleast10weeks(2-3 months)beforetestingagain.Ittakes10weeksfornewspermtobe producedsochangesinyourlifestylewillnotmaterializebeforethen.

Is there anything I can do to improve my sperm quality? Sofarthereisnotmuchevidencethatanythingspecificcanimproveyourspermqualitybutthefollowingmayhelp:lStoptakinganabolicsteroids(donotstoptakinganyprescribed medicationwithoutconsultingyourdoctor).malefertilityoften returnstonormalonceuseofsteroidsisdiscontinued.ltakeshowersinsteadofhotbaths–longhotbathsmayimpact spermquality.lItisalwaysworthtakingcareofyourselfandfactorslikeeating healthy,regularexercise,quitsmokingandreducingalcohol consumptionwillimproveyourhealth.
