Dear Parents and Friends, The very exciting time of the year is approaching rapidly! Celebrations of learning and achievements surround us, and also reminders of peace and goodwill are beginning to appear. Our Christmas Tree in the office foyer has been noticed with cheery comment and happy smiles. A little extra brightness goes a long way. Congratulations to Mrs Young, Mrs Barnett, Mrs Walmsley and Mr Druitt and our past students from Edward Public School who rode their bikes in the 600km riding event in Victoria over five days last week. Under very extreme and difficult weather conditions, they completed the ride in fine form, and have spent the last few days recovering from the gruelling event. Congratulations to all of you on your amazing effort! This week, our Year Five Students who have put themselves forward for nomination to be 2013 School Leaders will be presenting their speeches to the school. We have already heard some very interesting and entertaining speeches so far, and commend all of our candidates on their fine efforts. This is a very important part of our Student Leadership Program. On Thursday, students from Year 1 to Year 5 will vote for the 10 students who they want as their leaders in 2013. The results will be announced in Week 10. Captains will be voted in by staff from the 10 leaders. The Captains will be announced at the Presentation Night. One of the very important leadership roles our seniors have taken responsibility for is the Kindergarten Buddy Program. Our 2013 Year 6 students have welcomed our Kinders with friendship and care, and are looking forward to seeing them on their first day at school next year. The 30 Kinders were very excited to receive their new hats, donated by the P & C. This very important Edward P & C tradition is very much appreciated by our school community, especially the littlies. The Proud and Deadly Awards Presentation will be taking place at the Deniliquin RSL Club on Wednesday 5 th December at 11 am. Students from the Riverina South West Area will be receiving Indigenous Awards for achievement in such areas as Academia, Sport, Citizenship, Encouragement. We congratulate the recipients from Edward Public School, and thank Lisa Jones and the AECG for organising the event. A Special Community Sporting Award will be presented to Nicholas O’Connor on Thursday. Our congratulations are extended to Nick for his fine achievements in 2012, in particular his participation at State Level for Swimming. We have admired Nick’s qualities of determination, participation and effort in all aspects of school life. He is an inspirational role model to all of his peers, and also to the staff here at Edward Public School and is an exemplary leader. The final session of the Year 6 Transition program will be on Friday 7 th December. Remember your bathers and money. Our students have been very well informed of the routines, subject areas, rules and expectations, staff and supports at Deniliquin High School. All student enrolment forms for 2013 need to be submitted to Deni High School as soon as possible. Swimming Lessons for Years 2 and 3 were very welcomed in last week’s very hot weather. The students and teachers enjoyed cooling off in the pool as the temperature soared. Many thanks to our teachers and support staff for ensuring that every student is engaged in this very important part of skill learning. Dear Parents and Friends,

The very exciting time of the year is approaching rapidly!

Celebrations of learning and achievements surround us, and also reminders of peace and goodwill are beginning to

appear. Our Christmas Tree in the office foyer has been noticed with cheery comment and happy smiles. A little extra

brightness goes a long way.

Congratulations to Mrs Young, Mrs Barnett, Mrs Walmsley

and Mr Druitt and our past students from Edward Public School who rode their bikes in the 600km riding event in

Victoria over five days last week. Under very extreme and

difficult weather conditions, they completed the ride in fine form, and have spent the last few days recovering from the

Preparations are well underway for the 2012

Presentation Night Ceremony. Again, this function will be held at the RSL Club on Thursday 13th December,

commencing at 6.00pm. Parents of students who are receiving awards will be sent a letter of information.

Also, next week, at Friday’s School Assembly on the 14th December the awards for University of NSW Tests,

Edward Writing Excellence, 200 Readers, Edward Awards and Premiers Reading Challenge Awards will be presented.

It is great to see our mums and dads come along and

share in the celebration of these many achievements of our children.

So, as you can see, there is a wealth of activity that

surrounds us. School is always a very, very busy place and

our wonderful staff keep making it all happen for us.

Best wishes,

Joy Soper

Ex-Edward Students Excell

Last week 11 ex-Edward students took on the challenge of

the mighty Great Victorian Bike Ride. They were also

accompanied by Sarah Young (teacher), Craig Druitt (P&C life member), Jill Barnett and Felicity Walmsley (teachers

aides). These students completed the 591km route from Lakes Entrance to Phillip Island through heat, rain, head

winds, 14km of unsealed road and even climbed over the Grand Ridge road. The determination and effort displayed

by these students was exemplary. As our students

progress from Edward it is great to see them take on the opportunities the High School offer. It is interesting to

note that all of the students were either a captain, vice captain or prefect of our school. We are proud of you all -

Sophie Walmsley, Anna Druitt, Molly Watson, Karla Everitt,

Rachel Wishart, Mick Barnett, Emma Barnett, Melissa Jukes, Sam Young, Naomi Werner and Steph McKindlay.

Edward Avenue - Tree Sponsorship

Thank you to all the families that kindly showed their

expression of interest on sponsoring a tree for the 40th anniversary of Edward School. All 40 trees are now

sponsored. Thank you to everyone for their kind support.

Lost - Swimming Bag

Lost last Friday from swimming a bag containing, thongs,

rashie, shorts, bikini bottom, butterfly towel in plastic

shopping bag, sunscreen. Please return to the school office if found.
